  Stayed there with my fiancee for 6 nights in the end of may 2011. We received excellent service arriving at the Hesperia Fira suites and through our stay. The staff was kind and gave us good directions regarding transportation. On arrival we were greeted by a bellboy who walked with us and held our luggage to the suites from the main desk at the Hesperia Tower (apartments/suites are about 50 meters from the Tower). This hotel is the kind that looks expensive in design and materials but in my opinion lacks in maintenance. F.ex. in our bedroom the light bulbs on the wall lights were too strong to be kept lit for long and had burned a big darkbrown stain in the wallpaper which didn't only look bad but is also a great fire hazard. The air conditioning was very good but you could see that in one place a cover for the fan had gotten loose and had actually only been haphazardly taped back in place. The rooms were very clean and our dishes were even washed for us when we left them in the sink. There's of course a minibar, a fridge and a Nespresso machine in there. We found no need for two flat screen TVs, one in the living room and one in the bedroom, completely unnecessary in our case. The metro was our transportation of choice and it is very convenient. A metro station is located about 2-3 minutes walk from the Hesperia Tower/Suites. Travelling with the metro however did get tedious because we travelled a lot around the city. After a long day in the city it could be tiring sitting in a metro for 20-30 minutes on the way back to the hotel. I'm not sure I'd recommend this hotel for people who are staying for more than a week and plan on ransacking the city but for a shorter stay it's fine. Behind the hotel there's a quiet and cozy street with small supermarkets, fruitmarkets and some fun little boutiques to check out. The environment around the back of the hotel is definitely worth checking out and walking around in.

  This hotel is very nicely located. Only a 5 minute leisurely walk to the Rambla and on the street that leads to the Rambla (Carrer Nou de la Rambla) you have most of what you need e.g. laundry service, internet access for 1 euro an hour, number of convience and liquor stores. The street is bit run down and has a strip joint if that is something that bothers you. The metro station Paral*lel is just outside the hotel, very convenient. But the downside to that is that you can slightly feel the trains passing - it certainly didn´t bother us. There sometimes, for some reason, was a gathering of mostly young people right next to the hotel (2 or 3 nights out of 9 nights) and we could hear them in the distance but again it didn´t bother me but my wife a bit. It took us approx. 20 minutes to walk to the beach. I ran approx 10 K several times while I stayed there by running from the hotel down to the beach and then along the entire beach and then back again. Very easily done and fun. I definitely would stay there again. One thing I was diassapointed with was the lounge or lobby bar and cafe Apollo I had no interest in having a drink or a bite to eat there - it is not very appealing and it is something that they could definitely improve on. I expect that it has something to do with the difference between the Melia standard and the Tryp standard.
