Room needed some upkeep. Needed to use the air conditioner because the room was too warm. Could not get the heat turned off. Bathroom was rundown. Hotel floor squeaked in several places when walking around.
"pretty darn good"
Needed to attend an event in Waterville. Compared to the cost of surrounding hotels I got what I thought was a good deal on a two-night stay at the Fireside Inn. Because of generally high ratings by others, I booked the reservation. I was not sure what I would find when I arrived. The hotel was very clean, comfortable and well-maintained. The room was […] big and surprisingly nice to hang out in; and the people working there were lovely. Clearly it is past its heyday in terms of design, however all the important things (bathroom fixtures, HVAC, TV, internet access) appear to have been updated. Honestly, I kind of liked its Mad Men-era vibe... Did you see the episode where Don brings Megan to check out the flagship HoJos that opened upstate? Straight out of that era and motor lodge/restaurant design. The tag line for the HoJos was something like "a great place to stop when you're on your way somewhere". Agree Lesa meira
"Convenient location, friendly staff"
I was very pleased with my stay at the Fireside. In addition to all the regular amenities and a friendly staff (and attached restaurant), the complementary whoopie pie was a wonderful treat (and just the right size).
This was a great hotel for our week-long stay. Front desk staff were very friendly, even changing the TV to cartoons for our toddler at breakfast. They answered questions and helped us find our way around. Room was a little out-dated maybe (sofa and bedspread), but everything was very clean. We had a nice little fridge and microwave. They give you whoopie […] pies when you check in (apparently the official Maine state snack), which alone might be worth the price of the stay :) We would definitely stay again. Lesa meira
"Bad place for me!"
Not a good place for me... Heat always on, bed uncomfortable, lot of noise, police and fire truck early am in the parking lot and wait forever after front desk clerk to check in... Old hotel need upgrade and repairs...

"Fireside inn, Waterville,Maine"
We had a dr. appointment inTogus and the price of hotels in Augusta were too high and away from what we needed. Looking on the web i found the Fireside and knew of it's location, made the reservation and got the confirmation immediatly. Had a good stay and will probably use it again.
"extremely clean"
The cleanliness of this hotel was outstanding and the service warm and personal. Some traffic noise from the highway close by.
"Clean inexpensive place to stay."
Room was clean, and looked recently redone. Price very reasonable and it included in-room wifi and a continental breakfast. Very happy with our stay.

The Executive suites are so Comfortable. If you want a nice place to be alone or have a romantic getaway, get a room here. Very nice.
"Very clean, but very tired and down at the heels"
This was very clean as advertised, but very old and tired. And there was zero security. The doors to the halls where the rooms are was open 24 hours a day. No key required. Even a guy coming in from hunting seemed surprised. Once again, I would feel more comfortable with a national chain when I try a place like this. "Fireside still a nice place."
This is the third time we've stayed at the Fireside Inn and each time has been enjoyable. The rooms are large, clean and well furnished. The staff is friendly and efficient. It's good value for the money.

I stayed five nights and travelled daily to Augusta on I-95. The location was very convenient. Continental breakfast was marginal, but the Governor's Restaurant and Bakery were very nice and the breakfast there was excellent. The only bad thing was that a group of Asian travelers stayed one night and were very noisy at night and early the next morning. "Fireside Inn in Waterville, ME outdated but clean"
The furnishings at the Fireside Inn in ME are outdated. That being said, the beds were comfortable, the employees were nice and attentive and they had a pretty decent continential breakfast. It's close to the highway with many stores around. Not a place to walk around but convenient. Reasonable rates what more could you want.
"OLD AND SMELLY"
If you like old hotels that have a very strong smell of MOLD and extremely dirty carpeting, stay here. The smell of the room was unbearable I had to go to Walmart across the street to buy an air freshener - and that didn't even help. Will not stay here again.

this is older but well kept hotel. looks like they make cleanliness a priority because it sure shows. had a very pleasant stay
"Fireside Inn - good value for the money"
Stayed here overnight as part of a milti-state college tour with my daughter. Because I was on a budget and wanted to save some $$, I tried to book non-branded hotels which I often find to be a better value. Thus hotel was perfect for our needs. It was a bit dated but everthing was very clean and staff was nice.

I found the Fireside to be an outstanding value. I stay in this area about twice a year to attend a local business function and been upset with my previous choice due to construction as well as a bar that wass noisy at night. The Fireside staff was very friendly, accomodating, up-graded my room to onwe with a fireplace & even gave me a glass of Merlot […] upon registering. The linens were crisp and abundant. The room quiet and very comfortable. A perfect "10" and definitely one of the best rooms I have ever stayed in anywhere in the U.S.A. Kudos to Maine for scooping about 38 other states ! Lesa meira
"Nice stay"
Very clean and comfortable. 2 complains which aren't that bad were that there wasn't a lot of area to sit to eat your free breakfast and the hot tub was suppose to be year round and it wasn't available. These are not deal breakers thou, we would definitely stay here again.
"Fireside Hotel, Waterville, ME -convenient to I-95"
The room was very spacious and clean. My only complaint is that there was no elevator in the building I was in.
The hotel was clean and comfortable. It is an older hotel so some age shows, but very convenient to the highway, and easy access to local sights. Continental breakfast was typical and fresh. Front desk personnel were very pleasant and professional. Priced right. Would stay there again.

"vacation"
The room was clean, the reception was very nice and the continental breakfast, good. The only inconvenience was the noise some customers made when opening and closing the door of their room without holding it in the evening.
Room was nice, had a slight musty odor, but a little febreze solved that. Would recommend to others.

No complaints about room cleanliness. Very decent complimentary breakfast selection. Like others have responded there is really no where to sit down to eat where the food is, so you really haven't much choice but to go back to your room. While I had not intended on swimming, I did notice the pool was dirty, certainly not appealling to go in for a swim. […] Overall, not worth the price you pay when other options are available. "Just Feels Old"
The Fireside Inn just has an old and forgotten about feel to it. Not forgotten as in not taken care of because the rooms are clean and the hallways, etc. are fine. It just seems like a place out of the 70s in a way. The pool is not heated and has peeling paint, which was unpleasant. Very close to shopping and a Starbucks next door.

Hotel is convienently attached to a Governor's restaurant. Hotel staff very friendly at front desk at check in/out. Room itself spacious, clean, no "hotel smell" at all, I was impressed. Room had a microwave and fridge. Overall probably one of the nicer hotels I have stayed at in Maine for the money. Would definately stay again

I have stayed here many times in the past when it was a Best Western and was disappointed this time now that it has changed hands - the pool was not clean, nor was the hot tub, there were groups of teens in the parking lot throwing apples into the pool and just hanging out and smoking which made me quite uncomfortable, and the desk clerk in the morning […] made several remarks about my one year old grandson who was eating a muffin (which we of course were happy to clean up!), while we were trying to find something to eat in a greatly reduced breakfast bar! I will probably not go back which saddens me after 5 years of using this hotel consistently when in the area! Lesa meira

The location was great in proximity to where our meetings were and close to shops and restaurants. The staff were very nice. The rooms are in need of updating, though, and there was a very musty smell to our room.

"Fireside Inn and suites in waterville maine"
The hotel was close to the shower we were attending and very close to many convienences which was helpful for any last minute shopping and eating. The clerk on check in was extremely helpful to find us a more suitable room with a hectic weekend at hand. I would definately recommend the hotel to anyone.
Chambre spacieuse, Petit déjeuner copieux, mais manque de place pour le prendre. Très belle piscine et spa extérieurs. Belle salle de fitness. Je recommande cet hôtel, surtout si vous avez des enfants et ados.

petit dejeuner compris très bien et acces internet ok mais alors l'odeur de la moquette dans les couloirs et l'état de propreté général était tellement beurk !!!!! Notre chambre avait en plus une porte (fermée) qui donnait sur la chambre de notre voisin. Heureusement nous n'y sommes restés qu'une nuit ! Un hotel miteux je trouve.
