Fantastic location! Right in the middle of downtown London, close to all the central tourist locations and walking distance from a lot as well (Covent Gardens, Piccadilly Circus, China Town, Tour Bus stop, restaurants, pubs, etc). Right between the Tower of London and London Eye. Was there for a 2 night stay and couldn't be happier with the location. […] The hotel was nothing special, smaller rooms and a bit older, but the location more than made up for it. Would much rather be central than further out with nicer hotel, but it was a short trip. A friend who stayed on the outside of the hotel said the street noise was a bit loud, the windows are single pane. There was no hooks to hang the clothings in the bathroom. All there were just railings for the provided towels it was very inconvenient with no where to put the clothings down except the bathroom floor. The lightings and their positiongs were not ideal for ladies doing their makeups. Cleanliness is my top priority - and the Strand Palace Hotel scores highly on this aspect. Staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel's location is ideal for many of London's top attractions.

This hotel is a great value to be close to the sights, the tube, great restaurants and shopping. The lobby was a hub of activity but our room was quiet anhd comfortable. Stayed there 20 years ago and came back for the location. It has been nicely updated.

Fab hotel in brill location just across from charing cross station door men where excellent for directions and extremely pleasant would def recommend this hotel renovations going on a the min but didn't interrupt our stay

Rather unusually, this hotel has truly single rooms, which if you are travelling alone means there is more room (no double bed crammed in). The only down side is that I left my bike locked up outside and it got smashed up over night by vandals. I should have asked if it could be kept in the hotel!

I'm usually not an overly critical reviewer on here, but I need to call it like I saw it: The Strand is a dump masquerading as a mid-level hotel. Yes, it's a good price for the area. But I still paid wayyyy too much for this quality. I paid for an "executive" class room, my colleague did not. Looking at the two rooms, there was no difference. Executive […] must mean you get free movies (who cares), supposedly a newspaper each morning at your door (which I never got), free wifi (dreadfully slow to the point of why bother). Other things my executive rooms lacked: non-working safe, incredibly small room (the photo on here must be their one dream room), because mine was barely a dorm room size. Also, the "queen" bed that really is a double, with a thin stiff mattress where, no lie, I could feel springs popping through on me when lying on the bed. My room was located down an endless hall, next to a sad fire escape door -- an area that looked like time forgot. Plus it must have been near their restaurant exhaust fan, because that part of the hall wreaked of curry. My "executive" room view: interior light shaft, window that opened a crack at the top. No A/C, no air flow because of the safety window, and a radiator that kept things toasty and dry air. Thank God I was there for only two nights. Lesa meira

A clean room with adequate space. A bit of a walk to the nearest tube station, but the bus goes right by the hotel. Wifi was free, although the signal reception was weak in my room, and somewhat intermittent. All things considered, it was a reasonable value for the price, and I would stay there again.

Warm welcome at reception. I asked for a quiet room and surprisingly it was an exceptionally quiet room despite being bang in the middle of London. Everything I needed in the room including tea, coffee, biscuits and a bottle of mineral water. Lovely decor, a little draughty due to old sash windows but clever shutters helped a bit. Very good service and courtesy, the hotel is well located and have great breakfast as well as restaurantst within the premises. We stayed at the strand palace 5th april for 2 nights ,great location 3 mins walk to covent garden and surrounding area .minutes from the embankment and charing cross tube station .room very clean and modern also quiet bit small but thats london .only negative bar was pricey but plenty of bars and restaurants right outside.good choice.

I have been staying at this hotel off and on since my first trip to London almost 30 years ago. Is it the Ritz or the Savoy? No . . . but you can't beat the location, the excellent service, or the price. It's a big hotel that behaves like a small hotel in that staff goes out of its way to help. The best thing about this hotel is its location. It's close to major tourist attractions and theaters, and several tube stations are nearby. The room was small (which I expected) but clean. I wouldn't say the staff were rude but they definitely were not friendly. The walls are ridiculously thin, so if you need a quiet room, this isn't the place for […] you. A group of very loud young men staying in the room next to me woke me up at 2am and it sounded like they were standing 1 foot away from me, that's how thin the walls are. I did call the front desk and they promptly sent someone up to tell them to be quiet which I heard very clearly because again, the walls are incredibly thin. Something else to be aware of is that they're doing restoration on the building's facade and it's very noisy even early in the morning and on weekends. There was also a horrible diesel fuel exhaust smell that permeated the old windows and made my room smell disgusting. I would not stay here again. If you want luxury, this is not really the place for you. However, I stay at the Strand Palace 3 times per year on average. Rooms have everything you need, but no frills --- the location, if you are interested in the theatre or arts or are first time sight-seeking tourist, is unbeatable -- absolutely unbeatable. (I refer to the Strand Palace as the […] cheap tourist hotel across the street from the Savoy.) The last stay, my room had a bathroom door that was laughably tight fitting in the small bathroom, it was sort of a maze to enter the loo. (This is not usually the case.) Showers and baths are raised a half step or so and may cause unexpected clumsiness as you enter or exit. ALSO -- if you like to use a washcloth during your shower or bath, bring your own as there are sufficient towels but no washcloths (pack in a plastic bag if still damp for return trip). Lesa meira

Room and bed way too small for the price. For that size it should be about 1/2 the cost as it is almost like the Japan coffin hotels.

We paid £125 for room only and the room was spacious compared to others I have stayed in, to be opposite The Savoy is fab, literally 2 mins stroll to Covent Garden. Hotel is not for those who like a contemporary finish.

Close to sights. Huge hotel which can seem a little impersonal. The fire alarm went off at 12AM sending everyone into the streets. Of course it was raining, it's Lodon! Breakfast on weekends has a long line so go early.

This is a great hotel in a fantastic location. My check in was a smooth process and my request for a quiet room was accommodated. My single room was spacious enough and very clean and comfortable. My friend and I enjoyed a 'Convent Garden Cream Tea' which was good value. The very nice Strand Palace has the best location in London within walking distrance to Trafalgar Square, great restaurants and the Portrait Museum, plus every place you wish to go - a bus is waiting right outside the hotel door to take you there on a fun double decker bus so you can chat with the friendly locals while seeing and taking photos of spectacular […] London. We enjoyed our stay. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the staff pleasant and helpful. The breakfasts ample. The location is very good for visiting all that London can offer, site seeing, galleries, exhibitions & theatre and there is a bus stop very close by. My only slightly critical comments would be that we had some difficulty in operating our […] TV (that may be age related!) and I thought the bedroom corridors were a bit drab...the colour scheme is rather boring and old fashioned some pictures might brighten things up and add interest e.g. photos of old London or paintings, prints. Cleanliness of the room was good they had cleaned the room before we had got back from breakfast, I did except the room to be a little larger bearing in mind it was a superior room. the hotel room was very compact, but clean. lacked kleenex tissues and had to ask for them. wake up call was 30 minutes later than desired, and the desk clerk apologized for the error. the concierge does not give you truthful information. so be careful. i asked for the cheapest way to get to heathrow, and the concierge directed me to a shuttle bus at […] 18 pounds per person when i could have walked 1 block toi the tube and got a round trip for 8 pounds. also , when exchanging us for pounds , they fail to tell you that there is a 2 pound exchange fee for every transaction. watch out as they are not always upfront with injformation. they try to make money off you , knowing that you are ignorant of the facts when visiting london. they ywill take advantage of your ignorance rather than try to help you meet your needs. The rooms are a little small but adequate for the type of stay most would be making. The refitting and redecoration of the rooms have made a considerable improvement. The staff are courteous and helpful. The location is excellent and convenient to amenities and to transport - very important in London.
