We (2 adults + 1 child) stayed here 3 days before our cruise from Rome (Civitavecchia) and 1 day after. Very pleased with the hotel and would come again. Staff pleasant and helpful. Rooms and bathrooms clean, tidy and spacious, high ceiling and interior oozes old classy charm. Free quite fast wi-fi internet for hotel guests. Good central location, close to Terminal station, 15-20 min walk to most of the famous sights. Breakfast buffet quite good and the coffee machine, although automatic, makes an almost perfect cappuchino... for us a BIG PLUS. Some nice restaurants in the vicinity like the Gallo Matto, 5 minutes walk down on Cavour. Just a little minus: Bed mattresses a bit hard for my taste, but slept well anyway.

Pros: - Great location (Colosseum, super market and good restaurants) - Friendly and very helpful staff. - Clean rooms - Computer with internet access in each room. Cons: The only cons that I can think of are: - Very little floor space to store luggage (Minor problem) - Breakfast was only a croissant and a water/cafe at a bakery near by. Would be great if there were some fruits as well. But this hotel is perfect for a couple that are looking for a relatively cheap hotel in a great location! I would recommend this hotel to any couple and if I go back to Rome I would use this hotel again.

Location was pretty good near the city center, about 10 min. bus ride. Staff was very helpful and kind. The room was very nice but the air conditioning was poor. Free internet connection, but it did not work in the room though.

Arriving at hotel on a Friday we were given a horrible room - floors broken, bathroom dirty. I had to call Hotels.com to have them switch me from rooms. I was then on Saturday at 12 (Noon) moved to a much nicer room. If I had received that room to begin with I wouldn't have had a horrible first evening in Rome. It's not a good hotel, nobody welcome you , the breakfast is very light for the price, no room service, and if you want something after 21 h. it's impossible , it's necessary to wait the next morning !!! The only good think it's the position in the city , but not at this price.

this is not a 5 star hotel by any standards i travel by. we had to change rooms. finally on the third room they gave us what we asked for in our reservation reques. hotel is under a major renovation and as a result of poor economy people have to do more than one job. this should not be the conditions of a 5 star hotel!t

We've stayed in this hotel 3 times in 2005, 2006 and most recently in July 2011. The hotel has not been propely maintained in all this time and is in a desperate need of the renovation. We've looked at 5 different rooms and they were all in the same bad shape - ancient air conditioner that barely works; chipped dry wall and paint; water damaged ceilings; […] old creaking cupboards that seemed to be left from the 1950s. The main reception is tiny and cluttered with unrine smell coming from the carpets. Giving the great location of the hotel and great architectural base of the building the hotel has great potential to be remodelled into a true 5 star establishment it deserves. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!! I travel to Italy to see family and friends every year and have the last 20 years. I have stayed in numerous hotels in every major city there. This hotel, sadly, was one of the worst hotels I have ever had the misfortune of staying in. First off, when we checked in (and this remained consistent throughout our 6 night stay) […] there were 2 people taking care of 30 people trying to check in and check out. Those same 2 people also tended to every customer who was calling the desk. I waited over 1 1/2 hours to check in. Once we got into the room, with sweltering heat and humidity, I learned that the A/C was out in many of the rooms. Other rooms that had A/C, were so loud because of the A/C motor, that it was difficult to sleep. One of the bellman advised me that I shouldn't expect everyting in the hotel to work because, after all, the hotel was built in 1860, and I should appreciate the historical value of the property and that should make me happy enough. The service was overall was horrendous. My 70 year old mother, who made the trip with us this year, waited 5 hours after checking in, for towels. The hair dryers in 2 of the 3 rooms I rented were missing. They finally arrived 2 and 3 days later. This is a self-proclaimed 4 or 5 star resort that charges prices for its rooms accordingly. The rooms, service, and amenities, however, were 1 to 2 star caliber at best. I do not write reviews for places I have stayed. This experience was so bad, however, I'm hoping someone in the future will be saved a lot of grief by reading this. Lesa meira

"Hotel Grand Plaza, Rome - Convenience & comfort"
My wife and I stayed in the Grand Plaza Hotel in Rome for 3 nights in July 2011. Check-in is rather slow with the staff being easily distracted but our room was large, clean and comfortable in an old fashioned way which was what we expected. We made the mistake of having a snack in the hotel bar on arrival (2 teas and 2 ham sandwiches cost €42) but […] learnt from that experience. Breakfast was very good with an excellent choice of hot and cold foods. The best feature of the hotel was its location. Steeping out into Via del Corso, Via Condotti is literally around the corner leading to the Spanish Steps. Most of the other main attractions are an easy walk away - the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona etc. The Vatican is that much further and requires a bus or taxi. Arriving into the main train station 'Termini' from the airport we made the mistake of taking a taxi to the hotel €25 for a 10 minute ride. Going back we took the metro from Spanish Steps for €1 each! Overall we had a wonderful stay in Rome and would definitely go back and stay in the Grand Plaza because of its location and comfort.. I cannot believe this is listed as a 5 star hotel on hotels.com - unfortunately this is a major weakness in your service. I paid a 5 star rate for a dated, not maintained, overall disappointing hotel. It ruined the stay in Rome.

We were extremely unhappy with this hotel. The staff was incredible rude and the hotel itself was dirty. Dirty carpets, unvacumed rugs, dirty window treatments. Dusty, unkept property. This hotel is very well located and is with easy walking distance of the Coloseum, the Vittorio Emmanuelle, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and is a lovely 15-20 minute stroll from the Vatican. My family had two rooms, each with a spacious balcony and they each had very large bathrooms. The bedrooms were beautifully decorated. We found the staff very friendly and helpful and the service overall was excellent. The meeting rooms and the dining room where we had breakfast each morning were from another time back in history and have to be seen to be believed. We found a beautiful quiet terrace on the fifth floor, where we would all sunbath to our hearts content - It was so peaceful and had panoramic views over the roof tops of Rome. We were very happy with this hotel it is in a great Location close to loads of shops, Restaurants and Bars, the Room was very nice clean and bright, the continental Breakfast is also very good, you can have a Hot Breakfast but it costs extra. "Very nice hotel and brings the culture of Rome into your stay"
This hotel is fab (although a little expensive) - we went for an executive room which had a balcony (two actually) and was lovely. No tea making facilities but I took my own. The grand reception hall was fantastic and I prefered sitting in there to anywhere else. Had a fab time and a unique experience. Close to anywhere that is anywhere.

Gammalt vackert hotell som tydligen lever på gamla meriter. Personalen i receptionen upplevdes som högdragen och föga serviceminded. TV hade som så ofta på hotell dålig bildkvalitet och alla kanaler fanns inte. Tillgång till internet var inte helt självklar och gavs med en tidsbegänsad kod som dessutom avslutades för tidigt.

Tem salas maravilhosas, café da manhã otimo, ,as precisa passar por uma reforma nos banheiros, que dá até má impressão, com canos enferrujados á vista, e também não oferece segurança para os hospedes, principalmente de idade, Os quartos são espaçosos e confortaveis. ４泊でジュニアスイートを予約していましたが通された部屋が小さな部屋。フロントに苦情を言うと部屋が空いていないとの事。オーバーブッキングしたのであれば最初に誤り、良い部屋に変更するのが普通では？明らかに日本人をなめています。文句を言わなければ平気で４泊小さな部屋のままだったはず。フロントに抗議し今の部屋はひどすぎると言ううと明日変更するから今日はスーペリアではなくデラックスで。という口調が逆切れで追い払うかのように「ブレーゴ！ブレーゴ！」次の日も部屋の変更なので時間を取られ通されたジュニアスイートの部屋も薄暗く清潔感にかけます。朝食も種類が少なくハムは３種類、温かいのはスクランブルエッグのみ。ベーコン、ウインナー等の温かいものはありません。フルーツは切ってあるのはスイカだけ。リンゴ、グレープフ […] ルーツはまるごとです。チェックアウトも何も説明がなく「２４ユーロ！」レシートもよこさないホテルってありますか？歴史あるホテル？日本人にはお薦めできません。 Lesa meira

Excellent location, unfortunately the hotel has seen better days. The public spaces are fabulous, but the rooms need updating: A/C, floors and bathrooms are not up to the standard expected from this price range. Also the breakfast buffet could be more varied.

Ved ankomst fik vi et lille værelse trods bestilling af en suite. Efter opringning til Hotels.com der kontaktede hotellet medens jeg ventede, blev alle ønsker opfyldt. Check derfor altid med hotellet pr. mail, at du får det værelse du har bestilt. Ekstrem smukke sale og interiør. Fantastisk beliggenhed. Og de store værelse er meget komfortable. Meget […] servicevenligt personale, specielt i restauranten. Meget hjælpsom reception mht. bestilling af udflugter, opståede problemer og bestilling af bil osv. Pianobaren sidst på ugen er meget romatisk. Hotellet er lidt slidt, men det overskygges absolut af alle fordelene. Et ti tal også til Hotels.com service Lesa meira

En general es muy bueno. Lo mejor es la ubicación. Las instalaciones están muy bien conservadas y el desayuno es bueno. Las habitaciones están bien conservadas y limpias. Lo unico de que me quejaría es del Servicio. Todos los del Frontdesk se comportaron bastante antipaticos.

Ett mycket elegant hotell med takmålningar, kristallkronor och dessutom linnedukar och linneservetter vid frukosten. Hotellet var säkert i toppligan när det begav sig, men nu märkt lite av tidens tand i vissa aspekter men ändå ett hotell att starkt rekommendera. Rummet elegant med högt i tak och fint möblerat, lite hårda sängar men så är det för det […] mesta i Europa. Finns tv-filmer att köpa som dock inte fungerade när vi var där, dessutom kan man köpa internet direkt på tv:n för en summa euro. Läget är absolut det bästa på Via Corzo och bara en snedgata bort från Spanska trappan. Lyxshopping på smågatorna runt Spanska trappan. I övrigt ca 5-6 km till Colosseum o Petruskyrkan t ex.
