"Above and beyond"
Well I have to say, at first this seemed like the stay from heck! We check in and head to our room. We have a 1st floor room in the Manor House. We have to stay in the Manor since we brought our pet, and on 1st floor companion is handicapped. We enter our room and it is 85 degrees in the room! We find out there is no A/C no big deal just open a window. […] The 3 windows in our room are painted shut! We called desk and they sent the handy man, he comes into our room looks at windows and says " They are painted shut" The room is a double, there are 2 guests and one chair? The room was so small I could touch the bed from every wall in the room. For the price of a nightly stay we expected a little larger room. Ok for above and beyond, we get a call from the front desk. They say they found us another room and ask if our handicapped friend could use an elevator. The lady said if not the will give us a room in main building 1st floor dog and all! I said the elevator was not a problem. The lady at the desk knocks on our door 3 minutes later with a bell-hop. She takes us to the elevator and to a 3rd floor room. The room is almost 3 times the size of our other room, the windows open LoL and it even has a ceiling fan. We tell her this room is great, we hear a knock on the door and the bell-hop is there with EVERYTHING we brought into our old room, he even bagged up out toiletry items! "ghosts a plenty"
we loved our stay at the Stanley, we booked it mainly because went for Easter Brunch and thought it would be fun to stay here, My wife and I are both fan's of the Shining. We stayed in room 313 and it was very nice and excellent service all around. My wife said she heard all kinds of noises through out the night that might have been ghosts, but I slept […] right thorough it. Bottom line it is a classic hotel, and was an excellent value and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in Estes park. Lesa meira

"Stanley Hotel - hisotical and close to all"
As I had read in other reviews, the rooms are small but that added to the charm of the space. The overall sight was clean and well kept. My only problem during my stay was that the room was overly hot, and there was no way to change that. Although the staff was helpful, when I inquired as to where I could go for Italian food, specifically pasta, I was […] sent to a pizza restaurant that didnt have any pasta on the menu. "Great Stay!"
We checked in on a Sunday night - played hooky on Monday to celebrate my 40th birthday. We wanted something different - love the haunted lore of the Stanley, the decadent bar, location near to Rocky Mountain Park. Had drinks and dessert in the bar - thumbs up on both! Breakfast at the hotel was good. We stayed on the 4th floor - didn't realize it was […] the most active floor - fun to stay there. We got some interesting pictures that we are having a hard time explaining some of the orbs that have appeared in. The hotel and staff did not disappoint - thanks for a great birthday! Lesa meira
"No Ghosts"
We went to see if maybe we'd get some ghost action... unfortunately, nothing in that regard. But, the food at the restaurant was great, the played the Shinning non-stop for free in your rooms on nice big tvs, and the Ghost tour (while we didn't see any ghosts) was still a blast. Good time all around.

I am a native Coloradoan and have been to Estes dozens of times. This was my first time at the Stanley. I stayed in the Manor House and the room was great. However, upon visiting the restaurant, I found the service to be poor. I stood at the door while the hostess talked on the phone, unsure (since the restaurant was empty) if I should wait or just […] grab a table. Upon seating myself after not being acknowledged for over 5 minutes, I was then lightly reprimanded for not being seated by the hostess. The food was alright, but not worth the $18 I paid for it. "Beautiful Hotel fabulous restaurant"
Loved our stay at this famous beauty of a hotel. Estes park is a wonderful place to spend a few days and The Stanley hotel is a real trip. My boyfriend had just proposed and we mentioned this when we booked the restaurant and were presented with a bottle of champagne and some branded champagne flutes for ourselves to keep. Our hotel room was very nice and spacious. The HOtel is historic and very nice! I highly recommend it. Very romantic and beautiful.
"Great experience"
Had a fantastic 2 night stay at The Stanley. We arrived very early and were able to check-in with no problem - we received complimentary upgrade to king room in the Manor House which was lovely. All the staff were superb and went out of their way to ensure we were looked after. Food was great, as were the cocktails!

A beautiful hotel in a beautiful location. The staff was very helpful and kind. The only problem I had was the comfort of the room. It was very small, the mattress was extremely uncomfortable. My friend and I both woke up completely unrested and feeling body aches all day from it. The second problem was the ceiling on one side was angled and very low. My Boyfriend and I stayed at the hotel on Saturday and had a wonderful time!! We were excited to stay on the 4th floor! We met good people, had good drinks and conversation in the bar! I will absolutely be back!

The hotel was great although we stayed in the guest house even after the person I talked to at Hotel.com guaranteed we were in the main hotel. Come to find out, those people don't know so they should say so.
"The Stanley Hotel: A Little Depressing"
While this hotel has a beautiful setting, it felt bleak on the inside to us. All items of decor are in shades of dark brown. Very depressing. The art work consists of old, not very good, photographs blown up, grainy and having no connection to the hotel. The front desk staff told me our room wouldn't look out at the mountains and implied we hadn't paid […] enough. (I didn't mind this- it is understandable.) However, it actually did have a lovely view, with mountains in it. Overall, at this hotel there seems to be very little staff present-- a feeling of no one in charge. Parking is awkward. I wouldn't hurry back. The owners don't know how to run an efficient, welcoming, energetic hotel. It feels like they are just squeezing revenue out of it and not caring about the guests. Lesa meira

This such a fun place to stay. This histoic hotel is not just beautiful but it was so much fun also. We did the ghost tour. Our guide is an actress, She made the tour so interesting and fun!. One day is not enough, when can I go back?
"Perfect getaway"
Like many others, we wanted to stay at the Stanley because of its connection to The Shining as well as it's amazing location. We were not disappointed. While there for two nights, we took the Ghost & History Tour, which was incredibly interesting and entertaining. We learned about the fascinating history of Mr Stanley himself as well as his twin brother. […] So seriously - look these guys up for some incredible history. Our jaws dropped on multiple occasions during this tour. If you are hoping to stay in "The Shining" hotel, lower your expectations: Stephen King stayed here 1 night and was inspired to write the book but it is not where Kubrick shot it. Regardless, it runs the film 24/7 on one of it's channels! We had dogs with us so we had to stay in the Manor house, which was still lovely. We ended up in a suite with living area and 2 televisions. Yes, there is no AC but it got very cool at night and we just put our extra fan near the window and were very comfortable. The mattress was excellent and we slept like logs. The food was definitely 4 star as well as the service. The front desk crew were also 4 or probably 5 star and really, really did everything to make sure you were comfortable. This is really an amazing hotel with people sitting out on the large front veranda with cocktails or coffee meeting other guests and generally relaxing. I enjoyed staying at this historic hotel in Estes Park. Growing up in CO we would visit the hotel, but never stayed there. I stayed two nights, in the Manor House, a 1/3 scaled replica of the main hotel. The bed was awesome (most comfortable)! It was a pesonal treat to be a guest at this beautiful hotel. Everything about the Stanley is great - the food, the cleanliness, the atmosphere. The only thing is there is no air condtitioning in the rooms!! It was unbearably hot during the night and even though there was a fan on the ceiling and the window was open, it was too hot to sleep. Our neighbor in the room next to us said the same thing. "somewhat disappointed"
I guess I expected something more. Room was very small. NO A/C in the room, no breeze and a very warm day made sleeping a bit troublesome. room has a c/fan and small table fan but it didn't help much, needed to keep drapes open all night for the air, but that allowed a lot of light into the room. Very disappointed in the restaurant, wanted to dine outside […] as it was stuffy inside, not allowed after 7:30 pm. my husband had to send his steak back, not done, and when it came back still not done. ordered after dinner coffees, couldn't get that right either. no apologies, it was more like "oh well". I can now say I have stayed at "The Stanley" but probably won't do it again. Lesa meira
"Beautiful hotel with a lovely lobby/amazing views!"
The Stanley Hotel is a stunningly attractive historic place...great portico and lobby. The views of the mountains are amazing and the wildlife is abundant. The food was excellent and the opportunities to taste western game is available. The only negative I would offer is the lack of air conditioning in the guest rooms. Having stayed in July, the hallways […] were cool, but my room was stuffy and humid. The ceiling fan did nothing to alleviate the problem, and the ghosts would not let me open the closet door to get to the other fan! Overall a wonderful experience I look forward to enjoying again! Best hotel experience ever with old fashioned elegance, sevice and ambience. Yes we will return. Unfortunatley my husband got sick and I called the front desk to report that we had to leave earlier than planned. The manager left the busy front desk and personally came to our room to express his concern and promised us a great discount for our next stay […] if we mentioned his name. This is a WONDERFUL hotel. The staff is very helpful and always cheerful, which is unbelieveable with so many people touring the grounds. The only reason that I have the comfort a 3 was because of the lack of air-conditioning. I am sure in the winter, it would positively be great!!! "Stanley is the Greatest"
My wife and I stayed there on the 14th of June. It was a last minute plan and we just happened to fine a room at the Stanley. I can say with all honesty. This was one of the best hotels I have every stayed in. No the room was large or was it really fancey, but the history and the beauty of the this Hotel was wonderful. The people and staff at the Stanley […] went out of their way to make your stay as great as possable. The food in the dining room was the greatest. The setting of the Hotel was beautiful. I have stayed in 5 star hotels in Hawaii and other parts of the country and they have nothing on the Stanley. "Not as scary as I was hoping..."
I was anticipating a good scare during my stay and that was unfortunately not the case. However, I should say that if I was truly visited by "spirits" I probably would not go back. I do intend to stay here again, and I will likely stay in the main building. I love Estes Park, and the Stanley has a new long term customer :)
"Happy Ghosts & Fun"
We spent one night here to celebrate my husbands birthday. We had a lot of expectations and most of them were met! The hotel is beautiful as well as the area. The ghost tour was great-not scary at all! The only bad thing about this hotel is that it's not air conditioned. "Older hotel"
Quaint, older hotel. Did not have a very good elevator for bags. Used the stairs a lot. Overall, nice romantic getaway.

The hotel is beautiful. The service was great. Rooms are small, however the hotel is over 100 years old. The History/Ghost tour was great.

This Hotel is an historic building kept up with all modern amenities. The staff is attentive to all needs and the town of Estes Park has a lot to do from hiking to shopping. The history of the hotel makes it a must stay when visiting.

I love historic hotels and don't mind that the rooms are usually a bit small. The accomodations were beautiful, the decorating was lovely, the plumbing was up to date and it was very clean. Unfortunately, we had some rather noisy neighbors. At about 12:30 there was a female guest out in the hall banging on their door and repeating some words (unintelligible […] to me) over and over. Just as I was starting to doze off, it happened again, and I couldn;t go back to sleep for hours. Since this is a slow time of year for hotels in this area, it would have been nice if they had put each group onn a differentr floor or hallway to insure quietness. Lesa meira
"Absolutely AMAZING!!! (Watch out for the ghosts!)"
Every aspect of this hotel was amazing....except for the prices in the gift shop and the dining. The staff was very friendly and the rooms were very comfortable. We wanted to swipe the whole bed!!!! Be sure to take the ghost tours and/or hunts. My only recommendation is that you dine in Estes Park instead of at the hotel and you will save money.
"Not really worth a stay..."
The hotel has a lot of history and it would be worth a visit, but probably not a stay. We arrived and learned that we would be staying in the "manor house" which isn't part of the main hotel. It would have been nice to know that. The room was too hot and there was no way to turn down the heat. We were awoken several times during the night by the person […] upstairs stomping on squeaky floorboards and a dog barking. We informed the management who couldn't really do much to help us. The hotel's upside was that they played "the shining" 24/7 on channel 42. Kind of freaky. Had a wonderful night at the Stanley. Very clean and beautiful room in the Manor House. Close to snowshoeing for the next day.

We had a lovely stay. We asked for a different room initially because we wanted more window light. They changed our room w/o any trouble. The bed was very comfortable. Only problem was the people in the next room were very noisy and loud till 1 in the morning. (laughing and talking) They sounded like they were in our bathroom. After that quited down, […] all was well. We ate in the hotel restaurant, and had very good service and they gave us a dessert for our 50th anniversary!! The menu was very expensive, but the food was good. The lobby was beautifully decorated for Christmas and the hotel was not crowded which was a big plus. We enjoyed it very much and it wil be a wonderful memory of our 50 yrs. of marriage!! Lesa meira
"Great hotel, uncomfortably hot room"
Wonderful hotel, great experience. The room temperature was VERY HOT though, and the temperature control was the lowest it would go. Other than a very warm night's sleep, the hotel was nice. Restaurant and bar was great!
"Good From A Far But Far From Good"
This hotel has a good location and looks great on the outside, but falls short inside. My wife and I were shocked that such a famous hotel was so dilapidated. We stayed at the Manor House and it seemed to be in disrepair. Our room had cracks in the wall and loose carpeting. The website's pictures did not seem to match up with reality.
"The Stanley Hotel - Great location and great views"
The Stanley Hotel is right next to downtown Estes Park. The views of the mountains are incredible and the hotel is up on a small hill overlooking the town. The restaurant and small market have great food, plus there is a grocery store just down the hill. The room was on the smaller side, but very comfortable and the bathroom was beautiful, with an oversized […] jetted tub that was amazing after a long day hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park (just a short drive away). The room had a huge flatscreen TV and wireless internet access, so if we had wanted to stay in, we could have enjoyed those amenities a bit more. The hotel was wonderful and we got a great deal on the price - would definitely recommend it to anyone going to Estes Park. Lesa meira
"meh!"
Well the Stanley does have a great History and the property is GORGEOUS. Our room/stay was not worth the price. The room did have a huge closet, but only 8 hangers (hmmmm), which wouldn't be a huge deal, but there was NO DRESSER!! So there was no way to put away your clothes. On my first day...I went to workout (which was fine) and went back to my […] room for a shower before dinner. I was ready to hop in the shower and noticed we had 4 hand towels, 4 wash cloths, and ZERO bath towels. I had to put my sweaty clothes back on to call the front desk for towels, waited over 10 minutes, called again, waited another 10 minutes for towels to be delivered.....which were different sizes and freezing cold. So I finally got to take my shower and the water at its hottest was luke warm, which stayed that way for our whole 3 night stay. Also, just an FYI, we had a HUGE flat screen in our room, but it had only standard definition :( We stayed in a queen room in the Manor building. Lesa meira
