Hotel Raphaël-Relais & Châteaux is situated just off the bustling Piazza Navona and five metres from Piazza Navona, a lively square dotted with cafes, built atop the ruins of an ancient Roman stadium. The Pantheon is 100 metres, while the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain are less than two kilometres from the hotel. Rome Fiumicino Airport is 26 kilometres away.
Hotel Features.
The hotel's ivy-covered façade gives way to a lobby boasting artworks by Picasso and Miró, as well as classical Roman statuary. The three-tiered rooftop terrace offers views over St Peter's Basilica, the Vittoriano monument and Castel Sant'Angelo. The ground-floor library has an extensive collection of books which can be taken to rooms or the rooftop terrace on request. The marble-floored Relais Picasso Restaurant features antique tables and 19th-century silk-upholstered chairs, and serves breakfast and seasonal Italian dishes. The hotel serves snacks, teas, coffees and alcoholic drinks until late, accompanied by live piano music. Guests can watch satellite television while working out on the six aerobic machines in the fitness centre. The conference room features audio-visual facilities and can seat up to 40 delegates.
Guestrooms.
The 50 rooms overlook the small Largo Febo piazza or or Vicolo della Vole, and feature antique furnishings, and colour schemes dominated by ochre yellows and Roman reds. All are equipped with satellite television, wired and wireless high-speed Internet access (surcharge) and safes. Carrara marble bathrooms include power showers, bathrobes and Bulgari toiletries.

We (2 adults + 1 child) stayed here 3 days before our cruise from Rome (Civitavecchia) and 1 day after. Very pleased with the hotel and would come again. Staff pleasant and helpful. Rooms and bathrooms clean, tidy and spacious, high ceiling and interior oozes old classy charm. Free quite fast wi-fi internet for hotel guests. Good central location, close to Terminal station, 15-20 min walk to most of the famous sights. Breakfast buffet quite good and the coffee machine, although automatic, makes an almost perfect cappuchino... for us a BIG PLUS. Some nice restaurants in the vicinity like the Gallo Matto, 5 minutes walk down on Cavour. Just a little minus: Bed mattresses a bit hard for my taste, but slept well anyway.

Pros: - Great location (Colosseum, super market and good restaurants) - Friendly and very helpful staff. - Clean rooms - Computer with internet access in each room. Cons: The only cons that I can think of are: - Very little floor space to store luggage (Minor problem) - Breakfast was only a croissant and a water/cafe at a bakery near by. Would be great if there were some fruits as well. But this hotel is perfect for a couple that are looking for a relatively cheap hotel in a great location! I would recommend this hotel to any couple and if I go back to Rome I would use this hotel again.

Location was pretty good near the city center, about 10 min. bus ride. Staff was very helpful and kind. The room was very nice but the air conditioning was poor. Free internet connection, but it did not work in the room though.

Relais Picasso Restaurant - Located on the ground floor of the hotel, this upmarket restaurant serves Mediterranean/international cuisine to a capacity of 40 diners on glass-topped antique tables and 19th-century, maroon silk-upholstered chairs. The specialty is Sea Amatriciana spaghetti. Breakfast is served every morning.
The Bar - Situated between the lobby and Picasso Restaurant, The Bar features a special fruit cocktail each month with the fruit of the moment displayed on antique tables. A grand piano offers nightly live music. Snacks, teas, coffees, and alcoholic drinks are served until late.
Terrace and Roof Garden Bramante - Overlooks the city and offers restaurant and bar service for lunch and dinner during spring and summer months.

"TINY ROOM AND NEEDS UPDATING"
I HAVE STAYED IN MANY RELAIS HOTELS IN THE PAST AND THE RAPHAEL WAS BY FAR MY LEAST FAVORITE. THE STAFF WAS PLEASANT BUT THE ROOMS WERE TINY AND A BIT DIRTY. THE HOTELS AMBIANCE WAS LACKING TO SAY THE LEAST. ALSO THE ROOF DECK THAT WAS DESCRIBED AS OVERLOOKING THE PIAZZA NOVONA ACTUALLY IS OBSCURED BY THE BUILDINGS SURROUNDING THE PIAZZA AND YOU CAN […] REALLY ONLY SEE ROOFTOPS. Lesa meira
"Excellent hotel in the heart of Old Rome"
We stayed at the Hotel Raphael for 4 nights in mid -August. The hotel is magnificently situated just behind the Piazza Navona, close to the Pantheon and within walking distance of many other famous spots and many, many restuarants. The standard room we had booked was a little small but the manager very kindly upgraded us to a bigger room when he saw […] that we were disappointed. The decor of the hotel is sumptuous, the breakfasts were outstanding , the service very attentive. The desk staff were friendly, courteous and extremely helpful. "Just did not feel like a 5* hotel"
The hotel was really well placed and very clean and comfortable and is worth it for that fact alone. But the hotel simply did not feel like a 5* hotel. It felt a little tired and old fashioned, which was a shame given I have had a great time at other Relais & Châteaux hotels. Staff were friendly but you never felt they went out of their way to help, […] apart from Steven who was superb when we ate in their restaurant. Their recommendations for places to eat were generally good, Grano was well worth the visit but the pizza place round the back was very average. The restaurant on the roof was great. The food may not have been the best but combined with the view it made for a very pleasant evening. Great weekend in Rome, but the hotel simply felt like a place to stay rather than being part of the whole experience. Lesa meira

"Excellent location but paying for the view"
Stayed for a week, location perfect, room was clean, staff friendly. Only draw back to the hotel was the crazy prices there were charging on their roof terrace for a drink, €14 for a Gin and Tonic! Didn't think I would be expected to buy the view! On the whole great location, eat and drink elsewhere...Breakfast was included in our room cost, but […] it certainly was not worth €25. Lesa meira

Hochpreis, aber rundum zufrieden! Personal, Zimmer und Frühstück haben alle Erwartungen erfüllt. Lage kaum zu übertreffen.

Hotellet ligger helt centralt, der er rent og pænt og personalet er søde, venlige og hjælpsomme. Når man rejser derfra føler man virkelig, at man har fået kvalitet for pengene.

I min verden er dette hotel et af de bedste i Rom... Det er store ord, men jeg mener, at det sagtens kan leve op til det. Hotellet er et mindre hotel og personalet yder en kompetent service - og det gælder lige fra indtjekning til rengøring af værelset. Hertil kommer den centrale placering (ca. 150 meter fra Piazza Navona), som gør hotellet til et […] godt udgangspunkt til mange af Roms seværdigheder. Selv morgenmaden er overdådig - et område som hoteller i Italien ellers ikke er kendt for. Skal der absolut findes et mindre minus, så er det at enkelte af værelserne kan virke mørke, da de omkringliggende huse ligger tæt på hotellet. Lesa meira
