I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Rome for sightseeing and vacationing, especially families taking along kids with them. They have a buffet breakfast, which is not thrilling but will do in the morning! No typical bagels and bread-toasts and butter but still a nice fare in the morning! Showers and toilets are nice and clean. Typical European […] style bidets can be eliminated from bathrooms. Not everyone would be using them, especially tourists from North America and they take up lot of space for no reason! Lesa meira

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel for the cleanliness, location, and maid/desk service. The staff were nice and attentive. They helped me call taxis and look up a church location I could not find on my map. I was also upgraded to a double room for no added cost. Good location, friendly staff, clean, furniture past its prime. Reasonable for the price.

A nice hotel located near the Vatican. 5 min walk to the nearest subway station. A great market hall (fresh fruits, vegetables, cheeses etc.) across the road, lots of restaurants nearby. Hotel staff is friendly and helpful.

Great location, quiet neighborhood. The only downside was the lack of wifi but there is a cafe a block away that has it. The breakfast was good and the staff was friendly, spoke English and were helpful. I would recommend this hotel, especially for the price.

Rooms were clean, Front desk was helpful. Location is a safe area close to vatican and metro. Lots of shopping around the hotel. Walking distance to piazza navona (restaurants) and pantheon. This appeared to be a very nice hotel in a great location. The breakfast was great including meat, cheese, eggs, yogurt, and the traditional continental breakfast. While sleeping there, I woke up with 14 bug bites that resemble either spider bites or bed bug bites. They became red, swollen, and itched. Noisy neighbourhood, windows not very isolating - could hear the cars on the street and the garbage truck wake me up invariably every night. Asked for a room change to face the inner patio (I stayed 7 nights!) but I was refused by the reception desk staff. A few nights it was very, very cold, even with 2 blankets (October, hello?!) but staff said there […] was nothing they could do, heating was not on yet, they were waiting for colder weather. Breakfast is pretty basic and monotonous, and the coffee is almost a disgrace for an Italian establishment. Only thumbs up : the room was maintained spotless by the cleaning personnel. Oh, btw, don't be scared by the elevator:) - it creaks like hell, and it seems it's gonna crash, but it worked ok. Lesa meira

The best part of this hotel is that it is clse to Vatican in a safe neighbourhod. That's it. The room was very small. No internet. Very old fashioned design.

Stayed at the Aurum in early August. Arrived late and was given a small, dirty, dark room. The bathroom was not in proper working order. Told them that I wanted to see another room - was shown to one that was marginally better. As it was late and I was tired, I decided to stay the night and find another hotel the next day. The next morning the shower […] didn't work (water wouldn't drain from the shower). I went down to the lobby to complain again, just as a large group of English speaking tourists were coming in. At first management didn't want to help me, but quickly changed their mind when they realized that I could cost them some business from the tourists in the lobby. Was shown to a much, much better, clean and functional room. It felt as if I was in a different hotel, when I was just down the hall from the original rooms. Be very careful when checking in, management will try and put you in a terrible room - you need to really fight to get a decent room. Lesa meira

If you're looking for what would be considered a large room in Rome for a European Hotel, this is the place. It's located in a nice, quiet location near the Vatican within easy walking distance from the Vatican all the way to Piazza Novona. Collisseum may be a bit far (ie. > 2 miles), but taxi is easy. My wife didn't like the lack of wireless (only […] a single wired/shared computer downstairs). Breakfast is poor in a basement location, but contains usual croissants, fruit, and yogurt. Very good location for sightseeing around the Vatican City. However, would not rate this hotel as a 4 star - its more a 3 star. A real disappointment considering how much we paid!!!!

Very convient. Across the street is a farmers market with fresh fruit, cheeses and wine. Easy walk to St Peters Square and many Restaurants. Major Bus Terminal around the corner (2 min walk). Subway 10 to 15 min walk. I would Return!!

The air conditioner never really cooled the room to a comfortable temperature. I requested another fan but my request was denied.

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel.The reviews I had read, which ultimately affected my decision were right. It was the ideal LOCATION. Close to everthing and within walking distance to the Vatican, the Navona Fountain, the Trevi Fountain, The Pantheon,the Castle St Angelo ( Emperor Hadrians Mausoleum), and about a 45minute walk to Circus Maximus, the […] Roman Forum and the Colloseum. The Spanish Steps were close by, but I didn;t go there as I had been told by another tourist that it wasn't much. I had a lovely 3 days in Rome. The staff at the Hotel were proffessional, courteous, and very accomadating. On my last day after check out, they allowed me to store my luggage there without charge.There was quite a variety at the breakfast buffet too, which is included in the price. When I booked in this Hotel rating as 4 stars Hotel I never expecte that the matress were so dirty with who knows what kinds of thing. It was dust all over the room . was soo depressing !!!!!!!!!!!!

Average European hotel in rooms, etc., but Very nice desk staff, helpful and knowledgeable. They acted as concierge for events, making reservations for tours for us. Good location, very close to the Vatican but the room is not so good

Nothing about this is a 4 star hotel it is old and musty. The AC barely works. The staff was borderline rude... the hotel is old and have no modern day amenaties. The discription is an out right lie and the so called free breakfast is a joke.

hotel is couple blocks from vatican museum and st pietro church very friendly staff , good buffet breakfast , they will storage your luggage if you need it. Now there is a 3 euro charge per night per customer from the city of Rome.

Our main interest was to see the vatican city and this hotel was within a walking distance. nice big sign outside to easy located too.

Pros: 3 Blocks away from The Vatican and St. Peter's Basilica. No restaurant at the hotel (breakfast provided) but plenty of little places around that were very good and stayed open late. We sat down at one at 11:30pm 5 blocks from Metro, so very easy to get to and from the airport, and to other locations. Cons: The air conditioning in the room did […] not go bellow 26 Celsius and would turn off if you moved the dial bellow. In June, in Rome, when it was in the 90s and 100s during the day, not being able to get room bellow 85 at night is rather frustrating. The neighborhood is fairly busy and loud at night, so sleeping with the window open (because of the not functioning air conditioner) is a bit difficult and very loud. Decent room but tiny, once person, stand-in shower. No wi-fi. There's a computer available for use at 2 euro per half hour which they remotely log you into, so be careful putting any passwords and personal info in. Lesa meira

The location of this hotel was great. We were within walking distance to the Vatican, museums etc. Strongly recommend this hote for it's location, rooms and the breakfast which was very good.

This hotel sucks! They were super RUDE. If you want to pay a lot of money to travel and you want rude service than this is the hotel for you. I had a single room and it was very small. I felt claustrophobic. The only plus is that it is near St. Peter's Square/The Vatican.

The hotel is right in the thick of the business district . It's close to big name clothing stores, restaurants, Atms and banks. Additionally its close the the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican Museum. Its around a 3 block walk. The hotel was clean, the staff was very helpful, the rooms were not huge but then again, you only sleep there and […] store your suitcases. the air conditioning was adequate. That may not be the case in mid July and August, but mid June it was fine. The staff was even nice enough to loan us a voltage adapter. The breakfast was just fine. Location is fantastic. Close to public transportation and ideal to walk to Vatican City. Located on a quite busy street. Staff in the Hotel was friendly but Hotel by itself was old and needded some updates in rooms. I have read review before we went there that eg. showers need some updates and YES !!! Shower hook was broken and no one was interested […] to fix it. Room and bathroom was clean. The best part of staying there was breakfast. If you stay more than couple of days you may get tired of the same kind of meat and cheese, but all over - breakfast was decent and tastefull. You could get esspresso and cappucino. They had the best bread I tried in Rome. Check-out time is in fact 10 am not 12 as on reservation. If you want to leave bags in lockers before you fly out they offer a room or corridor whay bunch of bags are sitting watched by no one. This hotel is in a great location (close to Vatican City) and generally comfortable. But, our room wasn't cleaned well when we checked in.

Overall the hotel was decent and in a decent location mainly to the Vatican. If you are interested in walking around to other points of interest by foot then you may want to stay closer to the city center depending on your budget. The subway is only a few blocks away at the Ottaviano stop which is convenient but we found out that on a Friday night it […] stopped running at 9pm so we opted for the bus instead. The beds are hard but the room was clean. Breakfast left something to be desired...consisted of bread, cheese, meat...which is probably typical. The elevator door was a little scary at times and made crazy noises but it got us to the 5th floor. They do also have internet by the reception area at 2 euros per 30 minutes. Since most of our sightseeing was done on foot, I would probably stay closer to the city center next time but the hotel worked for us and was a fair price during our stay. There are plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance to the hotel. The staff will also book a tour for you and you can be picked up right in front of the hotel. Lesa meira

We chose this hotel based on its location, as we wanted to be able to walk to the various sites. The location was perfect. The hotel itself was older, with a noisy, slow elevator. The a/c in our room never quite worked, made noises as if it were running, but never cooled the room off, so our nights were stuffy. The surrounding nieghborhood was upscaleand had some great shops. There was an excellent restaurant close by and the Vatican and all the tour buses withi walking distance. Not luxurious but worth the price.

A short walk to the Vatican grounds, or Subway Ottaviano stop in the opposite direction, also only a few blocks away. Many shops for the wife to shop in (high end and cheaper stuff). Shoes. Clothes. Saw one bar with Happy Hour and music. Several restaurants in the area also. Had a great slice of pizza and a small joint a few blocks away on the south […] side of the circle. Parking was about 20e for 24 hr in nearby underground lot. Pretty convenient. Included breakfast appeared adequate, but we had to catch a flight - didn't eat but would have. Cereals, yogurts, breads, juice, coffee... Room 212: Too close to an elevator which had a broken outer door that rattled loudly. Shower door fell off tracks. Bed was quite decent but 1 thin pillow per person. Plastic cups in the bathroom. Had to goto front desk to arrange wake up call. Hair dryer included on the wall. The location of the hotel is very good, staff friendly and speak good English. But the rooms are very old and dated especially the bedroom. I stayed in a single room and it was very very small with a lone single bed with almlost no window. This was a great place to stay at. When I read the reviews, I was a bit concerned that I would get a smoke filled room. It was not the case. You do smell a lot of smoke in the lobby area and in the dining room. Regardless, the staff are great, the place is clean and well attended to. The hotel was older, but well-kept and in an ideal location as it is very close to the Vatican, shopping and restaurants. It is also only a couple miles from the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain and Pantheon. It is a beautiful walk - if you do not mind walking that far. So, we were incredibly disappointed to discover that breakfast was nothing more than a glorified continental breakfast. There were three types of cereal, a few types of croissants and rolls, yogurt, fruit, coffee and juice. There was no warm food available at all. The elevator was tiny and moved very slowly. On several occasions, we waited nearly 5 minutes for the elevator before finally resigning to the stairs. On our last day, this made it very difficult as we had to carry our heavy luggage down the stairs. Lastly, the walls are incredibly thin. We heard people speaking and doors slamming all day and night. It became a joke that we would count how many times we were woken up by doors slamming or people talking in the middle of the night. If you like to sleep in rooms filled with smoke, this is the hotel for you. We don't like smoke, so it was hard to sleep in this hotel. You had to walk up a couple of inches to get to the bathroom. Not good in the middle of the night (or daylight) we kept tripping on the step! Staff was ok.
