Across the Intracoastal Waterway, sea turtles nest at John U. Lloyd State Beach Park, favored by locals for picnics and recreation. The Seminole tribe operates a zoo at the Native Village. Lacks amenities. If you're looking for no frills this is it!! Could've been less expensive for the quality of the place.
Only think they didn't clarify was the late check-out. I was told that I could let them know by 11 am check out day. I did and was told I couldn't have one, I should have told them when I checked in. Messed up some plans. Though the front desk did all they could to accommodate me and let me stay until 12.

Stayed first of 2 nts, got a refund for 2nd night! Mgr was very easygoing once I complained. Shower was not clean, air went out in middle of night, very outdated.

The hotel was a disappointment is all respects. Diffidently not worth the cost. Renovation will not be completed under current management. It is obvious there is a cash follow problem. The sad story is it could be a real fun place to stay. Stay clear of this Hotel. We will not be back

Our room floor was tile which is great since I have allergies but it was filthy from the start, the room was really small, for the price I paid I could of went somewhere else and gotten bigger. It was nice though to be on the beach but I expected more than what I got.

"Not the lap of luxury, but would definitely return"
Ideal location right on the beach and the staff was very nice. Rooms were a bit old/dated, but it was clean & well maintained. As other posters commented, renovations are occuring, but they certainly didn't interfere with our stay at all. If you are expecting luxury, probably not for you. But if you want a decent place to sleep that won't break you […] that has an amazing location, this is a great choice. Lesa meira
"Hotel Sheldon - Location, Location, Location!!!"
Want a reasonably priced hotel that is ON THE BEACH? I mean literally ON THE BEACH...you walk out the door onto sand. True, the hotel lobby is under construction and you park a block away, but we had an oceanside room with a view of the beach you dream about. This is an older property that doesn't offer food right now, but there are many places to eat […] up and down the "Broadwalk" (no, I didn't mis-spell that....they do not call it a boardwalk). The hotel provides beach chairs, towels, and an umbrella so enjoying the beach can't be any easier. If I had to complain about something it would be this: they need to wash the windows of the rooms so you can enjoy the view better. This is an older hotel property that they are updating and our room was fine. The TV was old and small but we didn't stay there to watch TV....we enjoyed walking on the beach, then walking on the Broadwalk in the evening, and watching the sun rise the next morning. My wife was totally thrilled when I surprised her with a beachfront hotel. Give it a try. Lesa meira

"No driving needed"
The location cannot be beat. It is located right on the Broadwalk with many shops and eateries within walking distance, as well as the theatre in the park. The downside - it is still under renovations and our room had yet to be renovated. Although bath/shower was listed as an amenity, the bath was not useable. Relaxed, small, right on the beach!! Beautiful boardwalk on sand. Great quiet ... No fuss ..... Private Perfect No big hotel baloney !! Nice clean room and everything you need in it I recommend it.
"Perfect Location!!"
I stayed here for 4 nights for a friend's wedding. I would return either qith a friend or with my young child. My main requirements of a hotel are a clean room, no bugs, access to swimable water and good customer service. Hotel Sheldon provided all of those. The hotel is still under what seems to be a very long renovation but it didn't hamper my trip […] at all. My room linens were all very clean and comfortable. Floors and bathroom were very clean. I had many pillows. The room was smaller than I expected and I wish it had another counter top for toiletries. The floors seem to be done in my room but there was some paint that needed to be replaced. Again, small details that did not hamper my visit at all. My swimmable water was the beach that is literally right there. The hotel could not be closer to the beach. The beach was clean and the water beautiful and quite shallow for a distance. The boardwalk had numerous restaurants for as far as the eye could see on either side of the hotel. My interactions with all of the employees was very positive. They answered every question I had. They acknowledged me every time I walked in or out. They cheerily wished me a good time. The housekeeping does begin earlier than I wanted to wake up but she so kindly left new towels in a bag outside my door for me anyway. I did read complaints about the parking which is on the other side of the next hotel but I was allowed to unload and load my luggage in front of the hotel without issue. The walls are thin at times I could hear a guest or two if they were shouting. Again, did not hamper my fun at all. Great stay and I cannot wait to go back. But, please add a vending machine with water because the stores in walking distance are not 24 hours. Lesa meira
"Location Location"
This is the second time in a matter of months I have stayed at the Sheldon. Both times were for a "girls get away". The rooms are clean which is top priority for me. However, the renovations are coming along extremely slow. This will be a beautiful hotel if it is ever finished. It has great potential. Something that may be bothersome to others is the […] construction noise. From 9am-5pm every day except Sunday. This wasn't a real issue for me but I know it might be for some. Also, the doors to the rooms are not very secure and for this reason I would not stay here with my children. However, this was perfect for a getting away with friends. The location is excellent......literally steps from the beach....and the staff is very friendly and accomodating, with the exception of one cleaning woman we had on our first trip who got mad because we slept in and she wanted to clean our room. We told her it was OK and just asked for clean towels. She wasn't happy about it and made it known to us and other staff as well. But if you're looking for a clean place to stay in a GREAT location for a decent price and you won't be bothered by contruction noise or an irritable cleaning woman then this is a good choice for you. This hotel was a good choice for its reasonable rates and proximity to the beach. The room has everything you need, including fridge and microwave. The windows and heating/air conditioning units appear to be new, as well as the draperies and bedding. The bathroom is in need of some serious updating, but everything functioned OK. "Beach Weekend"
I was a little nervous after reading other reviews, but we arrived for our stay on Friday evening, check in was a breeze. The only problem was the room keys, they give you an actual key, not a key card so we had to deal with only one key to split between us. We asked a few times for an additional key but during the Fri-Mon we were there, they couldn't […] get one to us. Past that, we were in a rennovated room, all the rooms are named after celebrities so we were in the Joey Bishop room. Pretty sparse by way of furnishings, the room could really use a desk of some kind. However the rooms may not be big enough. The plus side is the room is right on the beach with some great restaurants within walking distance, specifically the pizza/pasta place on the broadwalk called the broadwalk restaurant & grill. A great little place with a take out window. We also rented a surrey and biked up and down the boardwalk. We were mostly there for the beach so this was perfect. The maids were all very sweet and so were the people at the front desk. The walls seem a little thin at times but once the a/c is on and running it blocks out all noise. Other than the weather being kind of crappy and overcast it was a great stay. If you are someone who looks to stay at a hotel and hang out watching t.v. in the room all day then this may not be for you, the t.v. was small-ish and not the best sound. But fine for relaxing and falling asleep. If you just want to enjoy a weekend at the beach without a ton of frills, this would be a great place for you. We would give this place the worse of any hotel we have ever visited. The face clothes looked like the floor was scrubbed with them. I have pictures of washcloths with holes in them.I even went to the front counter, but was told the area where laundry is kept was closed. "Hotel Sheldon close to everything"
The hotel was going through a remodel and so was the area outside the hotel. That took a little away with the construction starting at 8am. The rooms were clean sfaff was accomidating to any requests. Walk out the front of the hotel and your on the boardwalk with the a beatiful beach. They give you chairs & towels. "In-process renovation will not help this hotel"
We were told the interior renovations would be completed in November but they were still in process at New Years. Not sure whether this will help though as our individual room, which were not undergoing renovation, were filthy and in disrepair. Walking around for 5 minutes barefoot produced black feet. Lost power after 3 days in original room and had […] to be moved. Same lack of cleanliness in second room. Second room's air conditioner failed the day after move. "Under Construction"
Hotel is under heavy construction. Very hard to find. Reserved room with double bed and received one with one king bed. After using my debt card to pay for the room, my card was compromised and had to be canceled by my bank for fraudulent charge being made all over town.

No hot water, air conditioning didn't get cold enough, there is no room phone so as to call the front desk, and the cable kept cutting out. Nice stay at this hotel. You are a few steps from the beach and all the restaurants nearby. The room is simple, well cleaned and there is no noise at all. The only inconvenience we have they have no umbrellas for the beach, all broken!!!!
"August 2011 Visit to the Sheldon"
Before booking I read several reviews all bashing this hotel. I was about to skip on to the next hotel when I read a post from a guy who shared a different twist and I am glad I did. I booked my room. The hotel is under mad construction but that to be expected during a renovation. It's doesn't have all the frills and there are no telephones in the room, […] but who cares when you have the view that I had. For the most part I only saw three people during my stay and they all worked there. I was a little creeped out about being the only guest in the entire hotel. Luckily 5 other people checked in later. The room and bathroom were super clean. They give you plenty of towels not to mention towels and an umbrella for the beach. Did I mention that the beach was about 10 steps away. I spent a very relaxing night at the Sheldon and can not wait to return. I don't care if the renovations are still going on. All I needed was a fridge, a microwave and cable and that's is what I happily found in my room. There is an outdoor stage right next door and you can listen to the music from your window or walk over. One thing you should watch out for is the "late check out". When I asked about it the guy (really nice) told me it would be an extra $10 to check out at 3pm instead of 11am. When I went to pay the young lady with blond hair (these are the only tow that work there) told me it was $10 every hour over the reular check out time. I don't like surprises but I slept really well and I enjoyed my time on the beach so whatever. It might have been written somewher and I missed it. Lesa meira

Hotel is in a prime location right on the beach and boardwalk. Oceanfront room is reasonably priced. Front desk personnel were very helpful and friendly. Hotel was under construction (remodelling) but it did not affect our stay at all. We will definitly stay here again and recommend to our friends.

The bathroom was really small. No water pressure in the shower. had to run the shower for 20 minutes before we had hot water. The description on this website is not the room that we had. The location is pefect, the view is beautiful, the price is very reasonable and the people that work there were wonderful. They provide 2 beach chairs and umbrella for free, and they provide parking for your guess for a minimal fee (a huge lot and you dont have to worry expiring meters). Liked the location very much, the staff was very knowledgeable, room wasn't fancy but it was clean. A little dissapointing because the place is a construction site, but you can't beat the location... I will go back to the hotel. Overall a good experience

My husbadn and i had a great time. it is located right on the boarwalk where there is no need for cars or bikes. you can walk on the boardwalk where all the restaurants and shops are. The hotel it self is not so nice it dosent have a pool and it is still under construction. However the rooms are small but nice equipped with microwave,fridge,coffee maker,etc. […] The air conditoner in our room stoped working so they upgraded us to a ocenview room for free. you can hear the ocean at nigh perfectly. its right on the beach. they also have free beach chairs and umbrellas. if you get bored of the boardwalk or ocean you can take the trolly to downtown hollywood for a dollar it's so much fun. Overall this was the onely hotel on the boardwalk besides a million of condos and 2 other fancy hotels that where at the end of the two mile boardwalk. Sheldon right inbetween everything. first of all we could not find hotel sheldon easily. but when you drive by it, the name is on the inside of the lobby. look for that. the staff were very accomodating, from bringing our bags up to our room, supplying us with chairs, towels & unbrella for the beach, and decaf coffee. it's location on the broadwalk was a 10. but don't expect new updated […] bathrooms. it had a unique feature of hollywood stars' names on each door and pictures along the walls. neighborhood is questionable. "Hotel Sheldon Saved our vacation"
When making my reservations, I forgot to double check the dates - and we arrived late - by 2 days- the manager and the front desk staff worked very hard to make things right. They were able to adjust the reservation, gave us an upgrade and we had a wonderful time. The staff was absolutely wonderful, the room was spotless, and even though they are in […] the middle of remodeling - the construction noise was minimal and not a bother at all. The location is perfect and convenient to everything. We will stay at this hotel whenever we are in the area. The friendly, helpful, family feel of this Hotel from the front desk, housekeeping and manager and even including the construction crew makes for a relaxing wonderful place to stay at this very charming beach town.
