The historic Die Port van Cleve Hotel is located in the city centre of Amsterdam, Holland, behind the Royal Palace on Dam Square. It's 400 metres to the Anne Frank House and Centraal Station.

The Die Port van Cleve Hotel occupies the building where Heineken brewed their first beer in 1592. The hotel's interior features Delft tiles and oak beams. Staff at the 24-hour front desk can help with sightseeing trips to local attractions like the Royal Palace and Stock Exchange.
The Bodega De Blauwe Parade bar has been open since 1870, serving beers, cocktails and Dutch liqueurs. The room features wooden booths, Delft tiles and stained-glass windows. The informal Brasserie de Poort restaurant serves buffet breakfasts, and Dutch specialities and international favourites for lunch and dinner. The restaurant is popular for its juicy steaks and weekly jazz evenings. The de Hooiberg Bar, once part of the original Heineken brewery, serves drinks and light meals.
The Die Port van Cleve Hotel's conference room accommodates up to 45 people. The room offers a fireplace, wooden beams and city views. There's also a business centre with a computer and high-speed Internet access.

Ákaflega þægilegt hótel til að hvíla sig milli flugferða á Schiphol-flugvelli: fastar rútuferðir af vellinum á hótelið, rólegt, snyrtilegt umhverfi, þægileg rúm og gott baðherbergi. Veitingastaðurinn Nadar var afbragðsgóður og morgunverðarhlaðborðið afar gott. Ég fer hiklaust hingað aftur ef ég þarf að millilenda í Amsterdam.

Rétt eins og venjulega í Evrópu og þá sérstaklega Amsterdam, þá eru herbergin lítil. En þau eru tandurhrein og mjög kósý. Ég hef ferðast til Amsterdam yfir 50 sinnum og get sagt af þekkingu, að betri staðsetningu færðu varla. Það er mjög vont að taka keigubíla í Amster og þarna þarftu þess ekki. Þú tekur lestina frá flugstöðinni niður á Amsterdam central station. Þar gengur þú út og yfir síkið og götuna á vinstri hönd og ert kominn. Ekkert töskuvesen um alla borg, sem er svo sannarlega þess virði að losna við. Góð þjónusta á hótelinu, þrifið daglega, ig bara í alla staði prýðilegasta hótel

In comparison with other hotels in Amsterdam (in the same price range) I would recommend this one. Service was friendly, room was quite big and clean. It is in walking distance from the Center, but still in an quiet area. So thumbs up for D'Amsterdam

Brasserie de Poort - This causal dining brasserie decorated in warm green and gold is famous for its numbered steaks (they served their 6 millionth steak in 2004). Buffet breakfast and international and Dutch cuisine served for lunch and dinner daily. Live jazz once a week.
de Hooiberg Bar - Overlooking the street, this historic bar next to the brasserie was once part of the Heineken brewery, with wall frescoes and wooden floors. Guests can stop in for drinks or light snacks from late morning through early evening.
Bodega De Blauwe Parade - This historic Dutch bar open since 1870 has wooden booths, stained glass windows, and genuine Delft tiles along the walls. The bar features Dutch liqueur tasting and storytelling of the bar's history.
Guests can explore Amsterdam by foot, tram, bus, taxi, or canal boat. Bicycle rentals are available throughout the city for riding the bike-path (fietpads) network that crisscrosses the country. "Great Choice"
The price is cheap, the conditions are great, the service is cordial, the rooms are well kept, the location is fantastic (just behind the Dam square and next to the Grand Plaza shopping center). The room was tiny but since we ordered it just a day before and the price was low I will not complain.

"A lovely hotel at a perfect location"
I was really impressed by this hotel, it had a lovely warm atmosphere, was cleaned to a high standard and the room was very cosy and comfortable. The location was perfect, just a 5 - 10 minute walk from the main Amsterdam Central train station and just a stones throw from Dam Square. I would definitely stay here the next time I visit Amsterdam!

"Die Port van Cleve Hotel - 3 nights in March"
Situation is excellent. Room was quite small and situated in odd place. It was on the first/second floor, you could not get to the room from the elevator, you had to climb down some stairs and the corridor was extremely narrow. Not for tall and bigger people nor people with difficulties in legs or knees. Room and bathroom okay, new ac, but not yet […] in use. Bed could have been better. Quality - money spent okay. Stayed here in March 2012. The hotel was going through some minor renovations. The staff were friendly and helpful. I had booked a twin room but it was so small that there was no space for any luggage. Upon request, the staff very kindly offered us a much bigger room, so they stay was comfortable. Would not really classify this as a 4* hotel, but more […] like a 3*. The decor is a little dated, the rooms are a little small, but the location is perfect. Could not ask to be any closer to Dam Square. 10mins walk from Central Station, 1 min walk to the square, tram stop outside the hotel. Perfect location. So, if you are looking for luxurious hotel with large and modern rooms, then look elsewhere. If you are looking for convenience, this is perfect. Would stay here again. Lesa meira
"Location location"
This hotel is located close to all attractions. The room was very small but clean, this was not an issue as we only used it to sleep. Fantastic food hall right next door and numerous great restaurants close by.

Location is great. Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms were a little small but worked for us. Didn't go to Amsterdam to be in our room. Would stay here again.
The rooms in the hotel were either very cold or very warm, the hotel had a notice that there was work being carried out on the air con system but this was not apparent during our stay. We had to change rooms as the first room allocated to us was very noisy, cold and the stairs was definately not for anyone with a disability, one had to go down the staircase […] sideways holding on tight to the banister In case you would fall, the stairs in Anne franks attic were easier accessed and safer This hotel was definately not a 4 star, the rooms were clean but very small and basic, however the hotel staff at reception were very friendly and helpful and the bar staff were helpful. When we arrived we were told to come back later at a given time because our room wasn't ready. When we came back we had to wait for an additional hour, which was fine, but the receptionist came of as slightly rude and unfriendly. However the cleaners were really nice, and this guy who came with the room service order was very friendly and sweet. the room was small and the bathroom was a bit smelly (sewage smell, a bit), but considering customer service, location, and historical aspect of the hotel, it's still worth to stay at this hotel. the restaurant at this hotel is absolutely great as well.
The hotel was excellent with good service and decor. the only problem was the sloping roof above the bed Care had to taken when getting in and out of bed so as to prevent you hitting your head

"Really enjoyed stay hotel was great"
Really enjoyed stay, the hotel was great. The staff were super obliging when I had a problem or query. My room was large clean and well presented. The location is about 50m from the Palace and Dam square. It meant popping back to the room to get a coat or camera was hassle free.

Title says it all. Good location, nice foyer with good bar. Close to station and Dam Square. Lots of cafes, restaurants and attractions nearby. Ate breakfast out daily as cheaper and better than hotel. BUT, room was so small there was not enough room to put suitcases on the floor. Very noisy rooms, with thin walls, doors and ceilings. excellent hotel with great staff in center of city but terrible beds. we had booked three rooms for five people and all the beds were hollow in the middle--like sleeping in a hammock. there was no point in changing rooms because they were all the same----new beds badly needed

"small room and noisey"
stayed at this hotel 4december till 10th december 2011 on arival waas put in aroom iit was small and very noisey right nxt to a genarator so requested a move the next morning this was granted and we got a quieter room but rooms were so very small. breakfast is very expensive £18 wifi was good staff not to friendly in fact only spoke to them once. we […] do love amsterdam but sorry hate this hotel Lesa meira

Die port van cleve hotel is right on the tip of Dam square, close to where all the action is. The hotel was very clean and the staff helpful and friendly. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to go to the Dam. The hotel's resturant had lots to offer and there is every varitey of drink avaliable. Great hoilday
"Die Port Van Cleve - Great Location & Comfortable"
We stayed here for 4 nights over New Years and it was in such a convenient location to everything. Right next door to Magna Plaza so access to all sights is within walking distance or via tram. The hotel is very comfortable, we had a nice room overlooking the main road which we thought may be noisy but it wasn't at all. I will no longer go to the hotel. Hotel is 4 stars,but actually shoud be 3 stars .. Air conditioning does not work, the lift is very slow. We were with Bebb and we were looking for bed in a room, they gave us the old defective crib. None of the normal parent will put beby to sleep inside. When we ask for onother , we were told that they can not do anything. […] Among other things door handles of the bathroom fell out and no one came to look, so two days we could not close the door. 4 stars? Are you joking? Room size of micetrap, carton walls as doors and permanent protest-loud shoutings in the corridors. If you in Amsterdam planning not to sleep - this is reasonable choice. Toilets are the same quality as the street ones. Going by car - never. No parking at all, just to approach - it is the worst place in AMS. Fail to see how a 4* rating is in any way justified. 2* would be more appropriate. The double room we had was very cramped, limited light, no bed side tables, no draws for clothes (other than a shelf in the single wardrobe), single glazed and chilly until the heating came on. TV and remote control was problematical and table light had still to be fixed […] - which added to the gloom. Room was clean though bath and shower was in need of a thorough once over with tiles needing re-grouting. Lesa meira

Location was perfect, close to train station. Room was small but workable. Only negative was the traffic noise throughout the night.

The hotel was right near tourist sights, buses, places to eat and a supermarket. It was walking distance to the train as well. The staff was very helpful and friendly and spoke English well.

This hotel is NOT a 4 stars. At best 3 stars. They just take advantage of the location. Which is very convenient due to how close everythings is, The Dam Square, the Central Station, the Red light district, etc,etc. The door of my room was left open twice by cleaning ladys, i spoke to them and ask not to let the door open again, since any one can enter […] the room and take whatever they want. The second time, i went to the front desk and complained, well after that they retaliated. They hardly cleaned the room, i had to ask to had the linens changed on the bead. Location terrifically convenient to Central Station, fantastic facade of the building along with its amusing history, pleasant enough staff, BUT there was a mouse in our room, so we asked for another which was provided in short order but once we got to new room it smelled to high heaven, of what we did not stay to investigate, and were given a 3rd room […] fairly quickly but this one was the smallest of the lot. two people with luggage (one bag each) is extremely tight. mattresses lumpy and deeply indented. noisy even on back of bldg. sleep did not come easy in this hotel. next door is a vastly over priced and over rated shopping mall with, however, marvelous archetecture. This was my second or third stay in Die Port, and for some reason, this time the room I was given did have a toilet, but I could not use it. This was quite expensive room and the toilet seat location was such that adult mid size person could not sit on toilet seat, the front wall was just too close about 15cm from the seat. Next time I will check another […] hotel since I will not take a risk in getting similar room again. Previous stays, for the same price, I was very happy with the spacy room etc... "Subpar hotel in Red Light District"
The staff at the hotel (only) were helpful (restaurant was another story). When we arrived in our room, it was extremely stinky (lasted throughout the entire stay). There was also a note saying that the Air conditioning did not work as they were undergoing a "soft refurbishing". Maybe it will be better after it's fully "refurbished". "Hotel opposite the Palace"
Location is fantastic for this hotel. The Dam square is on your doorstep. Next door is a shopping mall and a little supermarket. Outside the hotel is the Tram stop which will take you all over city. I found the hotel average and I would probably stay again. Note that they do not allow early check-in, so check-in is 2pm and they won't let you have […] your key before that. Iron room is on 6 floor so you have to get a card reader from reception to use those facilities. Otherwise I was happy with my trip. Lesa meira

We lucked out and got one of the two balcony rooms and it was great. Our friends did not and although I did not see it they said their room was so small they couldn't open both suitcases at the same time. The location is great. "Excellent location, good restaurant & bar"
We Stayed at the Die Port van Cleve hotel for 3 nights in August 2010. The hotel is located just behind Dam Square and there is a tram stop directly outside. The location of the hotel was great, it is within easy reach only a few mins walk from all the bars and shops in the Dam Square area, and is only a 5 minute walk to the main train station. Whilst […] we were there the hotel was supposedly in the middle of upgrading the air-conditioning so unfortunately the air-con did not work and because of the time of year this made the rooms very hot. The hotel advertised free wireless internet and although connection to the hotels internet was free it was not wireless and I had to plug an Ethernet cable in to my laptop to connect to the internet which was a disappointment. There is a good selection of English TV channels, notably BBC. There was no mini-bar fridge in the room which was also a disappointment. The public areas in the hotel and beautifully furnished and the restaurant and bar are also very nice, however I found the hotel room we stayed in to be a little tired / shabby in terms of furnishings. We had a great experience at the hotel. Were able to check in early and in fact were upgraded to a suite. Hotel is right behind the palace -super location. Anne Frank's house is four canals (streets) away. The only down side is the air conditioning has not been installed as yet and it was very hot on the top floor during the day.
