The hotel is a bit of a mix in that it feels modern but the deco is a little Louis IV, not just in the lobby area, but also the rooms. As the hotel is in an old building, the rooms are smallish and the bathrooms a little basic, with shower in the bath tub and not too much water coming out of the shower head. Also, as this is an old building, the furniture […] is "placed" in the rooms, rather than "built" into the rooms. I am picky, ain't I? I had an occasion to put the front desk to the test when a courier shipment that was supposed to reach me at the hotel was delayed. The staff handled the situation well and I had the impression that they were diciplined and that they easily transferred such "open cases" from one shift to the next. Overall, a great location and a cosy, comfortable, clean hotel with a competent and friendly front desk. I'll stay there again. Lesa meira

An interesting hotel in a great location. Just don't expect luxurious rooms and you'll be satisfied with the experience. In most US cities, other than NYC, this hotel would be regarded a 3 star. The art in the reception area is a nice touch but doesn't add much to the experience. If you want to enjoy art instead get out of the lobby and walk to Glyptoteket […] or Statens museum for kunst... Clean and well kept, though very slightly dated - but the cleanliness made it feel good. The bed was small for a queen - i think two people would barely have fitted, so I was grateful to have been upgraded for free from a single (can't imagine how small that would be). Bathroom was nice, hygienic and clean, although the bath itself was a little small. […] My only complaint would be the pillows which were that very fluffy type but which give no neck support at all. Otherwise a very pleasant and enjoyable stay, and I would happily stay again. I mistakenly had breakfast thinking it was included in the room charge, but had to pay for it, and found it pricey. The location of this hotel is great for seeing Copenhagen. It can be easily accessed from Kongens Nytorv from the airport with a short walk across the cobblestones of the square. A meal at Nyhaven is a must. Great coffee and service at Kongens Nytorv (the square) at Baresso. The 'base' rooms are extremely small and well worth upgrading unless you […] are travelling alone (in fact, even IF you are travelling alone and spending more than 1 or 2 nights). Internet access is reliable and fast. There are steps to access the lobby and again on some floors. The hotel is a 'period' hotel, not a 'modern' one, but everything works perfectly. To be greeted by large, self-opening doors and no-one showing interest in you was bad enough, but you have to walk up steps to get in the door. Clearly no consideration for the elderly or infirm. When I went to get a taxi to the airport, there is nowhere for them to stand bay outside so there was a long wait. I walked to the Metro instead. The room […] was very small, leaving almost nowhere for me to lay my suitcase on the ground and open it. The bathroom was no better, with what an only be described as a tub (no use for anyone to stretch out if you are longer than 1.5 metres or so). I had previously stayed in a nearby hotel (converted 'warehouse') and was overwhelmed by the difference in the 2 hotels. The price was about the same. I won't be staying at the Phoenix again. Go for the one with a name that sounds like a high-ranking nautical person. Lesa meira

We enjoyed our first stay in mid July very much. However, our room on our second stay in early August was not air conditioned and it was very hot inside. Unfortunately, we had assumed all rooms had AC but we would definitely stay again in an air conditioned room. The location is perfect to enjoy the many Copenhagen attractions and restaurants. Not very friendly reception personnel. Room a bit shabby. Poor air quality in the room. No breakfast included.

The Phoenix Hotel in Copenhagen is located in the downtown area and within walking distance of the main square. The rooms are small, as most European hotels are, but the temperature in the room was quite warm. We turned on the air conditioner but the room remained warm all night. My wife and I found the hotel rather old and run down. The location was excellent and the breakfast also. We were on the ground floor in the back and it was noisy at night

This is very nice hotel in a great location. The front desk service was outstanding and the room was very clean and comfortable. The hotel is located only a few blocks Nyhaun Canal, the Queen's Amalienborg Palace, the changing of the guards, Rosenborg Palace and Gardens and the beginning of the Straget "walkway". A great place to stay. Very central..10 minutes walk to metro and to main shoppping area. Nice neighborhood.A pity they charge breakfast as an extra. Should be included. A great place!

Our stay was altogether enjoyable. The staff was friendly and service-minded, especially the breakfast staff. Breakfast is good, but pricey. At that price one expect there to be a larger selection of cheese, and jam that is not plastic packed. The bread is however fresh and of good variety. The bathroom was also big enough, but a bit in need of upgrading, as it took a very long time fror the hot water to arrive at the 3rd floor, and at one time it didn't come at all. The hotell is very dirty. Dirty pillows. Dirty bathtub. Dirty bed. And everything felt very old and the bed was very soft(poor). The standardroom is very very small.

My main criticism of this hotel is the misleading 4 star ranking. They even have 4 stars printed on their brochures. However, this was really a 3 star based on my extensive travels and hotel stays around the world. My room was quite small, not a shock compared to rooms in London I've stayed in. It was a tiny room with a desk by the entrance that I had […] to side-step to pass. I actually paid for an upgrade so not sure what my original room was like. They called it a queen bed but in the US that is called a twin. The hotel building is supposed to be a couple hundred years old but the room didn't really evoke that. Also in the room itself they only give you a couple of towels, one glass to drink from, and just generally not much else. Someone else noted there is no bell hop which I thought was weird for a "4 star" hotel. On a positive note I would say the people were friendly and helpful, the location is great for sightseeing and very close to the metro which is good for getting to/from the airport and around town. I said I would not recommend it, as a 4 star, but if it was ranked 3 stars then I would say that is fair. Lesa meira

We stayed at the Phoenix and walked to all sights in Copenhagen:Kongens Nytorv, Amalienborg Castle, Frederikskirke, Rosenborg Castle, Tivoli Gardens, Rundetaarn (Trinity Church), Nyhavn and the Little Mermaid Statue,etc. We had free internet service at the hotel, a full and varied breakfast included with the fare, and wonderful service. We boarded our […] cruise ship in Copenhagen but on our return we were able to leave our cases at the Phoenix while we toured Copenhagen before our return flight. We stayed here before our cruise on the Baltics. It is very well located near the middle of town. The service was excellent and they even kept our bags for a few hours after our cruise so we could svour every moment in copenhagn before we fly to Amsterdam. The rooms are very spacious but not all have a/c which is needed in the summer months. The location is good being a 10 minute walk to shopping and the main canal. The staff greeted us and were very helpful.

I went to this hotel with my now husband for our honeymoon to Denmark. We stayed in other hotels in Denmark as well and I regret to say that although this was the one I was looking forward to the most, it was the one I liked the least. The hotel's decorations were very sweet and ornate and just simply beautiful especially in the lobby area when you […] first walk in. However, the rooms were a bit dirty and the bathroom smelled. And the biggest complaint I have about this hotel is that the floor of our room was TILTED...significantly. So much so that I was relieved that the furniture wasn't on wheels or else they would all fly right out the door! We got the "romantic package" which was actually just a bottle of champagne and six strawberries.. which was nice...but not the extra money we spent for it nice. The water from the melted ice was also leaking down the top of the table...that's how much the room was tilting.. The showers were also leaking onto the bathroom floor...everytime we took showers. Also, although they give you a password for the wireless in your rooms...every time we tried to get online, it didn't work and would drop the connection. You would have to go downstairs to the lobby to use the internet. Location was great. We loved being just a stone throw away from Nyhavn--fantastic. The people at the front desk seemed friendly though were only around the front desk and seemed to have a lot of free time as they were pretty much just hanging out with each other and chatting. And the Van Plessen hotel restaurant was great and had LOADS of food for the breakfast buffet. Overall, I would recommend this hotel because of the location and buffet breakfast only, definitely not for comfort or for a romantic getaway as I'm sure there are much better hotels in Copenhagen if you plan to stay there for those reasons. Although the lobby fountain sported a pair of rubber duckies, the original art work dating from the 1800's which was hanging on the walls were absolutely beautiful. The hotel staff were very friendly and all spoke English fluently. The rooms were large for European standards and nicely furnished with old world charm. Remember to bring your own shampoo […] and conditioner as none was supplied by the hotel. Bikes can be rented through the hotel, although it was a little pricey at $30/day....very popular way to see Copenhagen. The hotel is nicely located and walking distance to the trendy canal street, walking street, the royal palace and much more. Umbrella's were also supplied by the hotel. Lesa meira

I came late and left early so I can't comment on breakfast. The downside for me, as single female, was bringing my luggage up about 10 steps into the hotel lobby, then 1/2 flight to room. The elevator does not go to floor for # rooms in 1000 range. They had 2 free computers and printer for getting boarding passes, which was great.
