Was checked in quickly, and received an upgrade. We were upgraded to a great king junior suite with a recently renovated bathroom. The staff was great. Each evening there was a happy hour special to kick start the evening. The pool area was small, but relaxing, the hammocks were a nice touch. Amazing location near Lincoln Road with the beach in the […] backyard! There was a little construction, but it wasn't a nuisance. Hotel is a little older, but kept up nicely. The hotel is in an original deco style building with old school miami beach charm and has a good 24hr restraunt just steps away across the street. this part is great. Beds and pillows are comfy. Walking distance to lots of shops & places to eat and close to the beach. I booked it for the courtyard and Beach style bar by the pool but that was not open […] when we arrived around 8p. The weather was perfect but the bar was closed and not a single person on the grounds. Only one person at the front desk taking care of everything frantic but friendly. The housekeepers were extremely noisy speaking back and forth down the hall in the morning, impossible to sleep through. A long black hair was stuck to the bathroom wall. There was mold growing on the door moulding in the bathroom. There is no parking so if you have a car its almost thirty dollars a day extra to park 2 blocks away. I have stayed at better historic places on south beach for less. For the price, plus parking fee and internet fee... I would not stay here again. Lesa meira

The hotel self-parking was full when we got there so we had to park in a garage down the street that was cheaper. They let us check in three hours early. The room was clean and spacious with a great view of the beach. The pool area is nice, but lackluster. The staff is very friendly. Staff was the best part - nice and friendly. The rooms have been updated and are nice, but not a window can be opened to enjoy the ocean breeze. Who wants a beach front (almost) room where you can't open a window! They have 20 parking spaces for 140 rooms. If you are lucky enough to get a space (I was), it is quite pricey and over a block away.

Our room appeared newly renovated with plenty of natural light and windows that open. The hotel has it listed as a Junior Suite but I disagree by definition, nonetheless it was very clean with a tile floor, Jacuzzi tub in the far corner (not inside the bathroom therefore no door, no privacy) and a refrigerator sitting on the floor. The worst about the hotel are the paper-thin walls - - - we heard the conversations from the hallway and every metal guest room door that closed on our floor with a resounding "clank and thud" noise which woke me up every time. Parking was disappointing- NO VALET OPTION - it's self-park only, walking a short distance (up Collins Ave 1/4 block, cross the street, and walk about 1/8 block), gated with a code, about 14 parking spaces total, and no attendant. The best is the hotel's location with direct beach access & lovely outdoor grounds to walk through on the way. I found the staff to be friendly & attentive-no complaints. I wouldn't pay top dollar to stay here but it's a deal if you find a 2 1/2-star rate. Lesa meira

Unlike other hotels south of here which are located west (towards the city) of the main road, hotel Marseilles is blessed because it sits east of it (towards the beach) and benefits from a decent pool and general hangout area (comes with hammocks under palm trees) on the beach side. I would strongly recommend this for someone who just wants to spend […] a lot of time on the beach/outside. In my view, the real cost per night should be $120-140 max for the quality. Parking -- extremely limited and valet; long term parking on the street is impossible. There is a garage on 16th street a few blocks away that will set you back $16 for 24 hours. In need of improvement: General areas like the lobby and hallways are extremely dated and not very appealing. You don't want to hang around indoors at this hotel. There is a bar/restaurant facing the street which makes for great people watching at night (if that is your thing) and a general noisy experience (especially in the morning, when trash and delivery trucks, buses, and the occasional hot shot on a motorcycle pass by). Decent breakfast, but on the pricey side; no restaurant in the area -- you will find plenty -- includes coffee in their $10-12 typical breakfast offering. A modest breakfast will set you back $20 with tip. Eat accordingly. No fridge in the rooms. Old TVs. Lesa meira

The hotel is very outdated, I felt like I was entering the 20s era hotel, they are in process of remodeling back area of the lobby but it does not look promising our bathroom which was the size of a matchbox looked like it was just remodeled but who ever was in charge has no clue what a bathroom is for, they have this fancy and expensive looking sink […] which has no place to put a soap let alone a tooth brush, the positive thing was that the staff were very kind and friendly. Hotel is under renovation. We were lucky to get a new room. Service was good. Room was clean but a little small. Walk in closet was very helpful. The only problem was noise. But it is the problem for all old hotels.

This is a good hotel if you want to be in the middle of the action. The noise from the street is incredible, especially on the weekends. The party goers and traffic is no stop all night and day. The staff was not very friendly or helpful, especially the front desk clerk. I was made to feel like I was bothering him by wanting to check in. They have no […] parking, but there was a lot a block away and it was fine. The room itself was very nice, very clean, everything that we needed. The smoke detector kept going off, I called to see if someone could check/replace because of the very high ceiling. No one ever came up so I stood on the table and tried to fix it myself. It was fine until 2am when I had to do it again. I needed this room because of the location, but I would not go back if I wanted a relaxing stay in Miami. Lesa meira

Hotel room was comfortable and conveniently located in the heart of South Beach. Building was being renovated at the time which sometimes made accessibility to floors and the beach cumbersome, but overall we had a nice stay and the staff was pleasant.

Price vs comfort was for miami beach very balanced. Definetly the christmas a and new year is the most expensive time to stay so in this case no complaints. Parking is addditional charge so that does not make you happy but it is very normal at miami beach where you pay everywhere for the parking if you are lucky to find a space. Hotel is being renovated […] so though to say how it is going to look lime on the end. But atleast you can see job being done. I missed carpet in the hotel room. When we got our room I was happy my request for a higher floor facing the beach was honored. Nothing better than being right in the heart of South Beach. Walking distance to all of the dining, shopping and club options. Nice art deco hotel. Yes its an old building but everything was very clean and the staff was friendly. We'll stay there again.

Hotel is being entirely remodeled so there is lots of dust and corridors/elevators are totally trashed. Also, we found it hard to shower since there was almost no water running and AC extremely loud. Once the remodel is over, it's gonna be a great place to stay !

They should have told us they were under construction. Every morning at 7:30, the construction crews starting hammering, and sawing. The crew was hauling all kinds of stuff up the elevators, and many times we had to wait for a 2nd or 3rd elevator (which were also covered in dust and plaster), and the place to eat was on the street instead of the poolside […] where the atmosphere would have been more pleasant. They're upgrading the entire Hotel, they were putting in a new patio deck and upgrading the rooms, the only thing was that the bar and patio beach bar and grill was not open. Last year the hotel had alot more to offer. The staff were great always willing to offer help. The location of the hotel is great, short walk to Lincoln Rd,

booked for a cheap place near Ritz (where wedding we were attending was) so it was perfect for location. it's close to great food places but not quiet at all due to street noise. we ended up with a room facing the street up on the 8th floor (only 9 floors)...all back rooms/pool view were taken, they were nice trying to find us a quieter room but none. […] even with earplugs i didn't get a wink of sleep. too loud with the cars, music and motorcycles riding all night long. I'm a night owl but couldn't deal with the noise after 1-5am. Construction going on to the outside pool deck area so the pool bar and consession area were closed. access to beach right there, great but you have to pay extra to sit on a chair at the beach. Hammacks in back and it's quiet cuz no one is using the area. It's good for the price for a place to crash but not for light sleepers. Bar had tvs and pool table but nobody attending the bar all 3 nights (Sat-Mon). They staff is extremely friendly and I think all the renovations will be done and it'll make the place better but def a 2-3 star place. Not dirty just loud due to traffic. Lesa meira

Overall the experience was positive, but there were a few issues that caused me to be a little disappointed. I was here for the weekend and really only was looking for a place to put down my bags and a bed to crash in between parties. However, when we arrived, the room was about 95 degrees due to no air conditioning on. After we turned it on, it eventually […] cooled the room down but it was unbearable at first. Also, the carpets outside door and in the entrance way were disgustingly dirty and made me want to wear shoes at all times. The final and biggest issue for me was the fact that the tv didn't work at all and despite the multiple calls to the front desk, the same maintenance man came up to the room and rudely told us there was a problem with the satellite and it work again in 45 minutes. Once he left for the second time, I personally looked behind the tv and saw the wire coming from the wall was not only not connected, it had been completely stripped of its connector piece to the back of the tv and therefore was completely useless. Really all he had to do was replace this part but he did not have the foresight to do so. We just left the tv off the remainder of the trip. This really ticked me off and probably clouded my opinion of the hotel a little more than the reality of the situation would have otherwise. The hotel was okay. I was very dissapointed to find that, despite what it said on Expedia, the fitness center was closed as was the Tiki Bar out beyond the pool on the way to the beach. We were forced to go to the next door hotel to get an adult beverage. Sort of a pain, especially since they show the open Tiki Bar on the site. They are renovating the […] hotel, which also was not noted on Expedia. The room was fine, clean and the shower was great. The door on my closet obviously was broken at some point so they just took it completely off. Gave it more of a "motel" feel than a hotel. I went to the beach the first day and they are also renovating along South Beach. Many bulldozers and other equipment - apparently regrading sand? We were charged for the beach chairs, as expected but told it would be $15 for two chairs plus $15 for an umbrella. We skipped the umbrella. Seemed like a scam but not run by the hotel. There is open air restaurant as you enter the hotel and the two hostesses we encountered were clueless. I asked if there was a ramp and one didn't seem to know. No bellman was out there when we arrived so we had to shchlep our own bags up the two short flights of stairs. The bar at this restaurant had not brand name alcohol, so we went across the street. Construction noise all day long..... Oceanview rooms are ugly and wayy too simple. Do NOT give this hotel more money than u need to. A very regrettable stay for us. Our room was recently renovated and the walls and floor still had drywall dust on the floor, windows and walls. The lamps did not have lightbulbs. The water was cut off the first day we […] were there. We were there for hurricane Isaac and the staff was not successful at communicating with guests on any plans the hotel had or at even answering the phones at the front desk, called from my room 8 times to no avail. The hotels to both sides looked better from our 7th floor room. We were in oceanview room 716...was supposedly "renovated" but was plain white with the same old scratched furniture, tube TV, squeaky king bed, and ugly lamps with no lightbulbs. The positives: Good location, close to shopping and restaurants. Close to the beach, the beach is right behind the hotel. The negatives: Hotel needs some renovations. Our room in particular was "updated" but it was small. I had reserved for a king bed and at check in, they told me they didn't have any rooms available and they gave me a double. Not ideal […] since it was just my boyfriend and I. The staff was not accommodating in the matter and had an attitude. The ice machine was not working so we had to go all the way down to the basement for ice, which is where the laundry is done and it's creepy down there. The safe in our room was not working. I called down to the reception and told me that there was nothing they could do. We went to the concierge to ask him for recommendations on activities and he didn't seem interested or helpful. My suggestion to anyone considering this hotel is that you spend a little more and get an all around better service and a more enjoyable experience. My boyfriend and I plan on returning to south beach soon but WE WILL NOT return to Marseilles hotel Lesa meira

Six family members stayed the weekend. Our stay was generally very good, but we had two minor complaints; the desk staff and so-called concierge knew very little about the surrounding area, and there were no newspapers whatsoever available in the hotel. I got a room for the weekend and had friends over at the pool and in the room, No problems and no complains. It is pretty old inside but I stayed for the location pool and beach, not the room. The beds are kinda hard but if you have been partying you wont mind.

I expected the hotel to be better. The rooms were livable but some were better than others. We booked two rooms for our family and one room was in a much better condition than the other. Staffs are not helpful when I was there. I saw alot of bar girls hanging around in and out hotel and it is danger to my kids. I got one room with the AC problem and I had addressed it to hotel and they didn't fix it.
