The hotel was lovely and clean!staff absolutely helpful and frindly!room was nice size modern and very clean.but the most importantly location was just amazing accross the road from train station and bus station, town centre 5min walk. i would definetely stay there again!well recommended

The North Star a lovely hotel ideally situated to the train station, just a short walk into the city centre. Ideal for a break away.

Stayed 3 days at the North Star recently and could not have been more impressed. Great location and amenities, friendly and helpful staff. Very close to all the major attractions of central Dublin.

The hotel itself is in an ideal location for the Luas and the O2. The surrounding neighbour would not be the most classy place in Dublin but at no stage did we feel vulnerable The only downside to the hotel was the fact that the same member of staff came into the room 4 times the following morning. We had forgotten to put up the 'Do Not Disturb' sign […] but after attempting once they should have know. Stay in the top of the Hotel, not on the side to the trains. then you have very good comfort and a quiet room.

The best thing about the hotel was the location, near both rail and bus stations. The reception was one floor up from street level (no lift) making it difficult for my wife as she is in need of a hip operation. Also there were no rooms with a walk in shower only baths.The rooms were clean but a bit aged, the hot water was not very hot and very little […] pressure, no heater in the bathroom making it a little cool there. The hotel's location is really the main atractive. Just a few meters from Conolly Stn. which guarantee easy access to all public transportation and also airport transfers. When I booked, I was kinda worried with the possibility of a noisy room, due the fact that it's really close to the station, but for my surprise no noises at all, very calm and silent. […] Good option to stay in Dublin. Staff were great, rooms were good, it is about a 10min walk to temple bar but great for the train if your visiting other places. wi-fi uses beware!!! 5E an hour or 11E for 24 hours, rip off as most hotels offer this now for free, come on north star sort it out!!!

This hotel was very nice and reasonably priced too. It's only a 10 minute walk to the centre of Dublin and all its shops and pubs. It has everything you would expect from a chain like the travelodge or premier inn, but with a more homely feel. We didn't eat there as I had booked a room only, so I can't comment on the food. We did go to the hotel bar […] one night, and that was very nice with good service. The only down side was it is a bit noisy as it's right next to the DART (train) line. This should not be a problem unless you're a very light sleeper. However, there was one night when a maintenance train was on the line for about 2 hours - this was very noisy and interfered with our sleep. The hotel were very apologetic about this even though it's out of their control, and the offered to move us to another room if it happened again (I don't think it's a regular occurrence at all). The hotel was very nice and the staff very accomodating. Myself my wife and adult daughter stayed in one room with three single beds which were very comfortable. The location of the hotel near Connelly Train station was convienient as well as most shopping, restaurants and pubs in Dublin were within walking distance. Bathroom was tidy and the water […] pressure good. The wi-fi worked well for the most part, and when it didn't the funds we paid for access were refunded. Overall a very nice stay. We stayed here for a long weekend in Dublin for our 10th wedding anniversary. We chose the hotel for location mostly, we wanted to be within walking distance of Temple Bar but somewhere a bit quieter to get some sleep on a night also! The room we were given was very close to the lift and stairway entrance, and the noise of guests coming in and banging […] doors etc kept us awake most of the night. The window also may aswell have been open for all the noise it kept out. Very poor sound insulation from outside, people talking in the street could be heard very clearly. We didn't experience any problems with sound from the trains like others have mentioned though, perhaps we were at the other side of the hotel to that. The mattress was very soft and lumpy, and the room dated, but clean and a good size. Room maintenance was excellent, tea/coffee/sugar etc in plenty supply. The only complaint being the staff knocked but did not give us any time to answer before walking in. I was half dressed on the first day and had to dash behind the wall for my dignity! The door was locked, but it seems they can unlock it with a key from the outside. This happened twice on the first day, and once on the second. They were very apologetic, but I felt just a few moments longer to allow us to reach the door would have been more appropriate. The reception staff were mostly friendly, but on checking out we found one staff member quite rude and abrupt. I would not use again, I think a Travelodge would be more comfortable than this hotel. This hotel was a little hard for us to find at first, but the location turned out to be very good. Within easy walking distance of Millennnium Spire and all the shops and pubs around it. We asked for a premier room at the back, since the hotel is across from the train station. We could watch the trains from our window, but they stopped running before […] we went to bed. Great price, though. We enjoyed supper and the music at the pub downstairs. We opened the balcony doors to get a breeze, otherwise it would have been really hot even though the outside temp was 60. We found the hotel clean and comfortable - the rooms were very nice indeed. We chose this hotel because of the price and the fact that we thought it was not next to or above a club or bar - how wrong, it was next door, although we were not disturbed by the noise. The area is not the best, it is 10 - 15 minute walk to O'Connell Street. We did not eat […] in the hotel, so can't comment on that. The only draw back for us was the long walk to any of the sights. I've stayed in worse places, but this definitely ranks towards the very bottom. The only good part about it is the somewhat decent location -- if you want to be close to the train station and bus station. Other than that, stay away. The music blares on friday/saturday nights until late -- you cannot hear yourself speak, and our room was pretty far […] from the 'action' (their bar does karaoke, so imagine how fun that is to listen to for hours on end!). If you love feeling the rumble of the nearby trains arriving every 30 minutes, then please be my guest! I mean rumble as if it were running on top of your head. Beds & mattresses were super saggy. Below average accommodations all around. Cleanliness was ok. Maybe if I had paid 70% less, i might be able to live with it. Otherwise, you're better off in a hostel. Lesa meira

The hotels location is great at the railway and busstation and next to the tram. But this aldo influere noice from tradit. My room was next to the back road and people was walking just 2 myrs from the window. To the price100 us per Night its ok but upgrade to just 120-130 us Will buy you a room In a much netter room In the center off City.

I had read many reviews before selecting this hotel and most of the positive reviews were borne out. My only disappointment was that I COULD hear the trains running past the window late into the night and early in the morning so didn't sleep too well.

The hotel is next to the railway track and you feel the vibrations whenever a train passes, the room was stinking badly specially the toilet. Although the staff changed the room on request but the another room had problem of shower. The shower was not working! we complained about it but nothing happened. You need to pay for wireless! The hotel is directly across the street from the train station, and the trains rumbled past every 15 minutes or so. It is located about a mile from the better parts of Dublin, but you have to walk past a few run down blocks. i would reccomend this hotel to everyone i know, the staff have been great through our stay, on the first day of been over in dublin, the friend i was traveling with was robbed at a bus stop where the stole her purse and money, the hotel staff where great the got the police, & offerd us anything that we needed, the hotel is clean & very suitable for […] our needs, we didnt have anything to eat from the restraunt so is unable to comment on the foos, the only things that we were dissapointed in was the man on night staff, we where left a leftlet in our room saying that room service was avalible until 3am, at around 2am we we phone down & was told room service was not avalible & had to go to reception, we went down to reception to order a pizza & hot dog, ( stated on the menu these where avalible) when getting to reception we were told we could only have a sandwhich, so we agree not happy but we where hungry, then we where charge 5euros for the sanwhich when the menu said 4.75 euros, then man said they had no change, so at around 2.45am me & my friend both only teenages had to walk around the strrets untill we found a late night shop! other than the room service/night staff the hotal & day staff are fabulous, & the tourist man downstairs is ace, theres nothing he doesn't know & gave us plenty of info for out stay in dublin :D very happy, & carnt wait to stay there again next year Lesa meira

Upon check-in, I had learned that the hotel's internet access was down and while this was unfortunate, I was hoping that it would be remedied by the end of the day or the next morning. Unfortunately, for my stay (Friday - Sunday), there was no change and there was no internet access. I had to cancel my last night's stay and move into a different hotel […] so that I could get work done since it seemed that there was no further progress. In evaluating the price that I had paid for the hotel, for almost two hundred USD/night is a lot for this hotel given its location (not the safest feeling) and what we got was just a basic room with no frills and thrills and in fact, beds that are obviously too old since you can see a significant dip in the center of the mattress, thereby causing back pains. Within easy walking distance of O'Connell Street. Close to Luas line going to Hueston station or to O2. Excellent location. Friendly staff. Very good value for money.

This is a decent budget hotel. Perfect location right across from the main bus (Busaras) and Connolly train station. The fitness facility and sauna are of the quality you'd expect at a 4 or 4.5 star hotel. The room was clean, the mattress and feather bed on it were nice but the pillows were all very firm. My room, on floor one, had a window, yet it […] seemed very dark. The hotel service is completely different during the day shift than late afternoon or evening. The daytime people were wonderfully helpful; the others were not helpful at all. Tip: wonderful all-scratch bakery on the walk between Don Laoghaire and Dalkey (Beautiful walk through the city of Sandy Cove, where I believe the bakery was. Amazing meat pies and sweet things/breads). All in all, I'd recommend this hotel if you are wanting to avoid more expensive ones (e.g., the Clarion nearby is not much more expensive and it is in a completely different class). Lesa meira

This is an average hotel in a good location for trains and buses. The downside is that the surrounding area isn't the best. My room on the ground floor didn't feel very secure and several thumps on the window from the outside didn't help. My website request for a double bed was ignored.The single bed had clearly seen better days, it was very uncomfortable. […] 3 nights was tough going on my back. On arrival at the hotel there was a smell of damp going up the stairs to reception.Smell of stale smoke from the room,booked a non smoking room which I was annoyed about,shower wasnt very good,mattress on bed very lumpy.Food good in resturant,Mcoys bar good.Probably would use the hotel again but I would book a premier suite.

The hotel was very nice and well located. The staff was professional and well behaved and the room was cleaned and had all the things we need. Very central located with luas and dart just across the street. We will come back again in March, we love the place.

This hotel is quite near the 02 and the provided a shuttle bus to and from the concert for the very reasonable price of €7. The concierge was very helpful and quite a character with whom we had a bit of a laugh while waiting for the bus. Our room was lovely and warm, we had 2 double beds and they were extremely comfortable. We had a wonderful nights […] sleep. For me, the hotel location was quite excellent. 1. It is literally adjacent to Connolly Train Station (one of the two major Dublin stations.) 2. It is a very short walk (maybe 500 feet) from Busarus (which is Dublin's central Bus station and the Airlink airport shuttle stop.) 3. It is a short walk from the Custom House Quay on the River Liffey (maybe […] 1250 feet south on Amiens Street.) 4. It is a fairly short walk from the Spire on O'Connell Street, near a ton of shops and attractions (about 2000 feet west on Talbot Street.) There was a convenience store (a Tesco I think) in the same block of buildings and there were many restaurants, shops, bars, ATMs, an internet cafe, etc. nearby to the South on Amiens and to the West on Talbot. Even at night, most of the surrounding area was pretty well-traveled and well-lit, making me feel safe there alone. However, the hotel's buildings are oddly set up combination of many old buildings, and a set of train tracks literally passes over and through much of the hotel complex. (The trains didn't bother me at all, though, even though I could see them pass right outside my window. I didn't notice any noise/vibration/etc.) What did bother me was the walk from the lobby to the building containing guest rooms on the first floor. They buildings are not connected, so you have to walk outside of the hotel building into a dimly lit courtyard that was publicly accessible from Amiens Street and use your key to enter either building from. The area seemed popular with loiterers and vagrants, and I felt extremely unsafe walking through it at night, but eventually discovered that I could avoid it by taking the elevator to the 2nd floor and using the connecting walkway/hallway above the courtyard. I was a little irked that the hotel staff never informed me of the situation when I checked in because I thought it a safety issue (especially since I am a young, small woman who was staying there alone.) I stayed in one of the Premier Club rooms. Furnishings and bathroom were very nice, but the room itself was not overly large. View was dismal and I wasn't lucky enough to get one of the balconies. Shampoo and shower gel were big bottles stuck to the wall like in the budget chains, so no nice little bottles of toiletries, shower caps, etc. Also no biscuits […] or mineral water. Hotel advertises "Free Wifi Hotel" but it actually costs €3 for 20 minutes. Restaurant seemed pretty good value but I decided to dine out so I don't know what the quality was like. For my next stay I'll try a different hotel but I would stay here again if I couldn't find anything better. Lesa meira

I STAYED HERE FOR A CONCERT IN AUGUST. EASY TO FIND, BUT TRYING TO GET INTO THE CAR PARK WAS A NIGHTMARE BECAUSE OF 1 WAS SYSTEM AROUND THE AREA. GOOD, CLEAN COMFORTALBE HOTEL. The North Star is in a great location, opposite the Connelly Train Station and the Tram and a 5 min walk into the city centre. The hotel has recently been refurbished and has a 'boutique' style. We have stayed in this hotel twice in the last 8 weeks and will continue to do so. We did however receive free upgrade the first time we visited and were placed […] in the 'premier suite'. This was lovely, exactly like the picture portrays. The second time we were placed in a 'standard' room which was also a smoking room, not quite the same as the previous room we had but not bad. We spoke to reception, who were very friendly and moved us immediatly to a non smoking room. We arrived at the hotel via the airlink bus which drops you approx 8 min walk from the hotel. We made use of the airport shuttle bus on return which only cost 4.50 euros and travels tfrom 5am. Only twenty minutes drive by coach. We havnt had chance to eat at the hotel but the facillities and prices look great. The only downside to the North Star is that you have to pay for TV and internet. Quite often I am staying for a few days and without these at hand it can be a bit of a pain. Overall lovely hotel and fantastic for the price. Just to add the beds are very comfortable and the duvet and pollows are better than the ones I have at home! Lesa meira

The North Star is ideally situated for access to the bus station and most places are within walking distance. Although walking is ok it could be intimidating if walking late at night but then again you could say that about any city. Staff any hotel very helpful.
