Ég og konan erum hlauparar og ferðumst varla án þess að hlaup komi þar við sögu. Nú var komið að því að hlaupa í Bristol, en hvernig átti að komast þangað og hvar átti að búa. Við vorum svo heppin að uppgötva vefsíðuna Hotels.com og þar fundum við hótel nálæt þeim stað sem upphaf og endir hlaupsins virtist vera og á verðlagi sem okkur fannst eðlilegt. Við pöntuðum síðan hótelið í gegnum Hotels.com og stóðst allt í sambandi við það, í raun þekkum við ekki til Hotels.com en spurðumst lítillega fyrir um það hjá hótelum hérna heima og virtust þeir ekki þekkja það nema af góðu. Við flugum til Heathrow, tókum lest frá Heathrow til Paddington stöðvarinnar í London, og þaðan tókum við lest til Bristol. Ferðin frá flugvellinum til Bristols tók um fjórar klukkustundir, en meðan við vorum í Bristol uppgötvuðum við að það er bæði fljótara, þægilegra og ódýrara að taka rútubíl (bus) beint á milli Bristol og Heathrow flugvallarins. En nú vorum við komin til járnbrautarstöðvarinnar í Bristol, þaðan var um 15 mínútna gangur á hótelið. Hótelið kom okkur skemmtilega á óvart, stafsfólkið þægilegt, og staðsetningin svo að segja fullkomin hvað okkur hlauparana varðaði því startið í hlaupinu og endamarkið voru svo að segja umhverfis hótelið í 100 metra fjarlægð. Hlaupara leggja mikið uppúr staðsetningu frá starti og endamarki svo það gat ekki verið betra. Hlauparar leggja líka mikið uppúr að sturtuaðstaða sé góð á herbergjunum, en það var mjög góð sturtuaðstaða á Ibis Bristol Centre. Morgunmatur var ekki innifalin, þótti okkur það kostur, en það var hægt að fá góðan morgunmat á hótelinu ef maður vildi á sanngjörnu verði að því okkur fannst, líka var hægt að fá hádegis og kvöldmat þarna, svo var líka hægt að sitja þarna niðri á kvöldin með bjór eða kaffi ef maður vildi. Í nágreninu og miðbænum sem er í um 10 til 30 mínútna göngufjarlægð er líka mikið úrval af kaffistöðum og veitingastöðum. Á herberginu var aðstaða til að hita sér vatn og fá sér té eða kaffi og líkaði okkur það. Það má því
"Enjoyed the spa, but not pleased with service"
I stayed for 2 night in Bath spa hotel, it was so special trip for me. But I was not happy with the way of talking of the receptionist to the customer. Well, she was not patient enough to explain things kindly, as we could not understand what she meant. (she had strong accent..dont think she is British.) We had to ask few more time to explain but she […] (both of the receptionist) had no smile and made me feel un- welcomed. The waiters in the restaurant were great with smiles, but all the womans I met in that hotel were... They should learn how to welcome people with smiles even though they are foreigners! For the facilities, food, and location, beautiful garden was satisfied as 4-5 star hotel, but the receptionist's service,, for this time, I can only say they are 2 star hotel! Lesa meira

Great spa including heated outdoor pool with jets and waterfall, various steam/sauna rooms. A 10 minute walk to restaurants etc in Bath. Staff very attentive. Drinks a little pricey.
"The Perfect Treat"
We booked this hotel for a few nights as part of our honeymoon journey through Great Britain. Everything was even better than we anticipated. The grounds are beautiful and perfectly peaceful. We had a quiet lunch one afternoon in the garden and loved every bite. The location made it the perfect "home base" for excursions to Stone Henge and Avebury, […] which we took advantage of. The town shuts down rather early though, so if you want to eat, make sure you plan ahead. The Concierge was extremely helpful in coordinating meals outside of the hotel (Ra, was the best!). Please have a pie at the Raven -you will not be disappointed in the atmosphere, completely charming and one of a kind -you will however be disappointed if you arrive too late for pie and have to stumble home with a belly full of ales and ciders without much else. Before leaving, we had a massage and were very satisfied. We spent the rest of the day smelling like lavender. The town is very sleepy but it makes for a peaceful getaway. The hotel was delightful but a 15 minute walk from the city centre. The hotel did not offer a shuttle ride to the city. Carefully check your bill when you check out as we were charged for parking. We did not even have a car. Also, they charged 3 pounds a day for a Financial Times. If you use your credit card to pay your bill they charge 2.50. The food […] was excellent, but quite expensive. "Macdonald Spa Hotel Bath"
The perfect place to escape and relax, yet close enough to all Bath has to offer. The hotel setting is wonderful. It is a short distance from the centre of Bath ( bit of an uphill hike back to the hotel) but as parking is a problem in Bath it is very convenient to leave the car in the hotel carpark and walk everywhere. There are some lovely restauarnts […] within a short distance of the hotel and the walk through Sydney Gardens is glorious. If you are fortunate enough to have good weather enjoy afternoon tea on the garden terrace at the fron tof the hotel. If not, head for the spa. "Not a 5 star hotel"
Hotel OK, but not a 5 star hotel. Room was ok, very clean and quiet but old and worn, specially the bath tub. Room was normal, but not what you would expect on a 5 star hotel (no minibar, regular tv with basic channels and nothing else, no clock, worn furniture, the kettle must have been from the 80's). The bed was great. Got room service once, very […] poor and expensive. Have had much better room service in lower rate hotels. Restaurants at the hotel closed too early. At checkout they wanted to charge us for a breakfast that we did not order, but the problem was solved quickly. Location is ok, 10 minutes walk from city centre but if you do not have a car there is not a sidewalk on the last 100 m to the main street so you have to walk on the street where taxis and other cars are coming quite fast from the corner and do not see you. I do not undestang how they have nor sorted this out. Did not have much interaction with staff, but everyone was quite friendly. Lesa meira

"Excellent hotel unless a wedding is being held!"
The Macdonald Spa has a touch of class, with well kept gardens and great facilities. The only issue was that we had booked the hotel to relax and on the Saturday the weather was great (rare I know) so we booked to eat at the Al Fresco restaurant. This would also give the advantage of not having to get to over dressed. When we arrived the wedding party […] had taken over ever table outside and the bar inside so we were seated in the corridor. This certainly did not feel relaxing so we discussed walking into town, but the waiter was very helpful and understood our complaint. We were moved to the restaurant inside for fine dining and although underdressed had a fantastic meal even if inside. Stayed for one night in may 10- Fantastic setting and building, Staff very pleasant and food excellent. but the rooms although well appointed need attention.,The walls had many scuffs on them so did the bed and the carpet was a little threadbare , The tiles in the bathroom were chipped. I ran a bath and large flakes from the bath enamel were floating […] in the water along with some stray masking tape?!, The glass shelves in the bathroom could have done with more than a light dust. My breakfast in bed was excellent but the trolly it came on looked as if it had been recovered from a filthy skip, it was so shabby i called house keeping who were very appologetic. This beautiful hotel is full of English charm and very convenient for the centre of Bath, but at the moment it is not quite up to 5* continental standards of housekeeping or maintainence. Lesa meira

Good all round hotel. Friendly and courteous staff. Idyllic location & a great spa. Would thorougly recommend it. Went mid week when rates where very reasonable for this type of hotel which was the icing on the cake!

This hotel is fantastic! Loved it! The problem with this hotel is that you have to pay about 5 pounds to get to and from the city. Thought it was a fantastic retreat, beautiful exterior and interior, it just ended up to not be as centrally located as I would have hoped. If I did it again, I would have stayed right downtown. More accessible to everything. There […] is no free internet and the food is quite expensive. I got a sandwich and we ate breakfast one morning there (my wife and I) and paid around 78 bucks for all of it. Good food, but not that good! "Nice stay at the Bath Spa"
I am my wife are experienced and quite discerning travelers. We found the Bath Spa one of the best hotels we have stayed at in the recent years. It still has a flair of the mid-fifties, extremely comfortable, excellent restaurant, gorgeous front gardens, large inside swimming pool, several types of sauna. The personnel was very corteous. The price was […] also a good surprise (booked through Hotels.com it was far less than the list price shown on the reception). We were given a room with a living room, a spacious bathroom, a king size bedroom, very soft linen. Two small negative notes: 1) there should be a covered path to the Imperial Suites, it is uncomfortable to cross in the open air when it's cold and rainy; 2) there was a charge for internet connection in the room, this is petty and unfriendly to customers since the cost for the hotel is minimal and should not be charged to guests, as many hotels now do. Anyway, we will not hesitate to go back to the Bath Spa when returning to Bath (which we intend to). Lesa meira

Beautiful hotel, good location (good 15 min walk to centre). Spa faciltiies nice but often busy. Food in restaurant excellent. All a bit let down by service. Staff very pleasant but not particularly attentive. Stood for a while waiting for restaurant, no-one took active role in seeing if we needed help. Had to find concierge to retrieve car keys. "Quality"
I decided to book this hotel as it was my partners birthday and fancied a little bit of luxury. The reception area is lovely and grand.......Our room was excellent only fault was that the bed was a little too soft for our liking. Clean towels x2 daily and sheets turned down ready for bed. We ate in the hotels restaurant the food was out of this world […] but you will be looking at a three figure bill. But you cant put a price on quality. Pools, sauna & steam room excellent for after a hard day walking around the sites of bath. All staff were friendly and very helpful. will definately return. Lesa meira
"Had a wonderful couple of days!"
The hotel is lovely and the leisure facilities are superb - indoor and outdoor (hot) pools. The room was beautiful and the bathromm the best I've been in. Only problem was the drinks were an absolute fortune - as were the dinner prices. It is a walk into Bath and therefore we witnessed (and were part of) a constant stream of taxis into Bath for meals […] and drinks. If only they lowered their prices,people would eat and drink in the hotel. I would go back though but would still not eat or drink in the hotel. Lesa meira
"Good but could do better"
We had stayed at the bath Spa several years ago in one of the hotel's feature four-poster rooms which had benefited from a recent tasteful refurbishment. This time we were upgraded to a comfortable executive room overlooking the gardens. Food & drink is high on our list of priorities and we took lunch at the Al-Fresco restaurant. The food and wine […] were of the high quality we had come to expect from Al-Fresco. We had hoped to take a pre-lunch aperitif at the bar but were disappointed to find it closed. It had always been open on previous visits. We decided to order room service at about 5pm and this is where we encountered a failing. The call to room service appeared to be forwarded and the line went dead. After trying again we waited for our order. The order was simple and after 40 mins waiting I chased the order only to be told the delay was because they did not know my room number! After a further 20 mins the order arrived. This appeared to be an unfortunate blip as our order for room service breakfast the following morning was delivered on time by two smart young men. The Bath Spa experience is one of service highs and lows and it would be better if there was a consistent level of service. We would certainly return to the Bath Spa as it has much to offer and the dining experience is always memorable. Lesa meira
"Highly recommended hotel for a short stay at Bath-Spa"
Check-in was very slow as there were not enough attendants at the check-in desk. Other than than that, we were impressed with the comfort and customer service. Location is central and within walking distance to the city attractions. Would stay there again.
"Nice hotel but let down by attention to detail"
Booked this as a last minute getaway. Whilst the hotel is lovely, its attention to detail let it down. It took 30 minutes to get checked in, the mini-bar in the room was empty with a 'package buy system' which was ridiculously irrelevant, took another 30 minutes to get through to room service which then arrived without cutlery! Hyggelig opphold med venner. Personalet gjorde en veldig god jobb ved spørsmål. Minus for at de ikke tok seg tid til å vise oss rommet som lå noen dører og ganger fra resepsjonen. God service i restauranten og god mat (spiste kun frokost og en lett kveldsmat). Stort minus for små og utrivelige rom til 5 stjerner å være!! Skuffende :-( Fantastisk flott […] hage og uteområde, fin beliggenhent med gåavstand til sentrum. SPA avdeling og trimrom ble inspisert men ikke brukt, delvis pga manglende tid men også fordi det ikke var innbydende nok. Dårlig service av ansatte i SPA og dårlig lukt i trimrommet. Vi valgte helelr å ta oss en løpetur langs kanalen som vi fikk anbefalt av personalet i resepsjonen. Lesa meira

"Særdeles velplaceret luksushotel"
Et "rigtigt" 5 stjernet hotel, hvor der virkelig kræses for gæsterne. Hotellet er aldeles velfungerende, og ikke mindst stedets fitnesscenter og spacenter er aldeles glimrende. Endelig gør hotellets beliggenhed i den smukke park, og i gåafstand fra centrum, det til et virkelig "must" ved rejser til Bath.

"Bra alternativ i Bath"
10 minutter fra sentrum, landlig beliggende i gammel herskapsbolig. Høy standard og flott parkanlegg. Varierende service, men et bra alternativ til de tradisjonelle byhotellene.
"Schöne Parklage, sehr ruhig und Zentrumsnah"
Das Mac Donald Bath Spa ist sehr schön in einem Park zentrumsnah (ca 10min Fußweg) gelegen. Das Zimmer (Executive Room) war ausreichend groß, die Sauberkeit entspricht dem was ich erwartet habe, nach dem ich auch schon in einigen anderen Hotels der gehobenen Klasse in England übernachtet habe, d.h. Staub wird nicht oft gewischt. Da ich schon in einigen […] gehobenen Hotels in England gewesen bin, habe ich das Staubthema nicht anders erwartet. Das Bad ist allerdings in einem Zustand, der eine Renovierung erfordert (alles sehr abgenutzt und teilweise fleckig). Für die kältere Jahreszeit sind die Fenster aufgrund der mangelnden Isolierung nicht geeignet. Diese sind aufgrund Ihres Zustandes aber auch ein Punkt, den man nur durch kompletten Tausch beheben könnte. Das Personal ist sehr aufmerksam und höflich. Nicht verstanden habe ich allerdings, wieso man ein Paar, die wohl gerade aus dem Spa kamen, in Bademänteln das Frühstücksrestaurant betreten läßt und dort auch noch Frühstücken läßt. Dies wird dem Anspruch des Hauses nicht gerecht. Dies habe ih auch bei der Abreise so an der Rezeption hinterlassen. Die Speisen und Getränke beim Frühstück sind reichhaltig, wer mehr als Continental Breakfast möchte, muß jedoch extra bestellen und zusätzlich zahlen. Die Qualität der Speisen und Getränke ist sehr hoch, die Preise auch, aber dies ist dem Anspruch geschuldet, Bio Produkte zu verwenden. Zum Spa kann ich keine Aussagen machen, da wir es nicht genutzt haben. Lesa meira

"Leading spa hotel"
This hotel had everything we looked for in a hotel in Bath - and a bit more. We got a very good price on Hotels.com, but got exactly the same great service as everybody else. The hotel is romantic, the staff are amazing, great food - we had some dietary needs which the chef solved in an impressive manner. The spa is wonderful. Lovely and not crowded. […] Indoor pool, outdoor, two different saunas, two different steam rooms, ice room, massage shower etc. The hotel also has a great gym. Didn't try any of the additional spa treatments, but was very happy with the rest. Very nice room, big and comfy bed, large bathroom, everything you can ask for. Internet is free if you borrow a wire in the reception. The hotel is a ten minute walk (through a lovely park and some very handsome streets )from Bath city centre. It's also worth to notice that Bath is easily accesible from London, the train from the city centre takes 1 hour 30 mins till Paddington. Lesa meira

McDonald Spa Hotel Bath is beatifully situated on the top of a hill with a very nice view of the city and with the city within walking distance. Nice rooms but not entirely up to 5-star standard. They were somewhat worn down. Spa and wellness area ok but noisy because of many visitors with children. Breakfast absolutely not recommendable. "Fantastisk service"
Personalet var enestående med deres venlige og hjælpsomme service. Maden var dejlig og værelserne meget hyggelige og rene. Beliggenheden var for vores vedkommende god, da det lå roligt og man kunne spadsere til byen. vi skulle have boet på Hilton, men er overlykkelige over, at vi besluttede os for the Bath Spa Hotel.

Meget fin modtagelse på hotellet som hele vejen igennem vores ophold var meget hjælpsomme. Værelset var pænt stort og meget rent med kaffe, te, vand og kiks til rådighed hver dag. Ydermere badekåbe og tøfler til brug for besøg i spa'en som var meget flot med mange forskellige tilbud. Eneste minus er, at hotellet ligger lidt i udkanten af byen på en […] bakketop, så turen hjem fra Bath på gåben er meget op ad bakke, men er det OK er det et super valg. Lesa meira
"gut mit Mängeln"
Wir hatten für zwei Nächte eine Imperial Suite gebucht, was sehr teuer war. Diese Suites sind allerdings in einem Nebengebäude untergebracht und man muss sprichwörtlich durch die Hintertür aus dem Haupthaus um dort hin zu gelangen und hat keinen schönen Ausblick auf den Park vor dem Haupthaus. Swimmingpool war angehm, wurde kontrolliert, der Service […] allgemein sehr aufmerksam und freundlich. Das recht hochpreisige Restaurant hat Stühle mit teilweise total verfleckter Sitzfläche, was nicht zum intendierten Ambiente passt. Lesa meira
