Ég og konan erum hlauparar og ferðumst varla án þess að hlaup komi þar við sögu. Nú var komið að því að hlaupa í Bristol, en hvernig átti að komast þangað og hvar átti að búa. Við vorum svo heppin að uppgötva vefsíðuna Hotels.com og þar fundum við hótel nálæt þeim stað sem upphaf og endir hlaupsins virtist vera og á verðlagi sem okkur fannst eðlilegt. Við pöntuðum síðan hótelið í gegnum Hotels.com og stóðst allt í sambandi við það, í raun þekkum við ekki til Hotels.com en spurðumst lítillega fyrir um það hjá hótelum hérna heima og virtust þeir ekki þekkja það nema af góðu. Við flugum til Heathrow, tókum lest frá Heathrow til Paddington stöðvarinnar í London, og þaðan tókum við lest til Bristol. Ferðin frá flugvellinum til Bristols tók um fjórar klukkustundir, en meðan við vorum í Bristol uppgötvuðum við að það er bæði fljótara, þægilegra og ódýrara að taka rútubíl (bus) beint á milli Bristol og Heathrow flugvallarins. En nú vorum við komin til járnbrautarstöðvarinnar í Bristol, þaðan var um 15 mínútna gangur á hótelið. Hótelið kom okkur skemmtilega á óvart, stafsfólkið þægilegt, og staðsetningin svo að segja fullkomin hvað okkur hlauparana varðaði því startið í hlaupinu og endamarkið voru svo að segja umhverfis hótelið í 100 metra fjarlægð. Hlaupara leggja mikið uppúr staðsetningu frá starti og endamarki svo það gat ekki verið betra. Hlauparar leggja líka mikið uppúr að sturtuaðstaða sé góð á herbergjunum, en það var mjög góð sturtuaðstaða á Ibis Bristol Centre. Morgunmatur var ekki innifalin, þótti okkur það kostur, en það var hægt að fá góðan morgunmat á hótelinu ef maður vildi á sanngjörnu verði að því okkur fannst, líka var hægt að fá hádegis og kvöldmat þarna, svo var líka hægt að sitja þarna niðri á kvöldin með bjór eða kaffi ef maður vildi. Í nágreninu og miðbænum sem er í um 10 til 30 mínútna göngufjarlægð er líka mikið úrval af kaffistöðum og veitingastöðum. Á herberginu var aðstaða til að hita sér vatn og fá sér té eða kaffi og líkaði okkur það. Það má því

"Wonderful hotel!"
We loved this hotel - very luxurious and the rooms were beautiful. Food was not great but we enjoyed every other aspect. It is within easy walking distance of the town centre and also has beautiful grounds and gardens. Spa and pool facilities were very nice. We will definitely go back.
"Bath Spa Hotel - lovely stay, great location"
I've just got back from a long weekend break here with my husband and parents-in-law. We booked garden rooms (Executive rooms on Hotels.com) and had a great time. The beds were HUGE (could get about 4 people in if you wanted). The staff were friendly and helpful, though it was sometimes hard to get hold of room service. It is a nice walk into town (10-15 […] minutes stroll), which was great before and after eating. Top tip: if you go on the city bus tour you can take the skyline tour up the hill to the side of the hotel under the same ticket, then just walk around to the main gate. Saved our legs twice after spending all day walking the sights. A taxi from the town centre was £7. Positives: room was lovely. Pool and sauna complex was amazing, especially the outdoor pool. Gym equipment impressed my husband. I had a nice treatment in the spa too. Negatives: food and drink were very expensive - we ate and drank in town, and took a few bottles of our own..... Lesa meira
"Amazing spa"
We booked into Macdonald Spa for 2 nights. We also booked into the Thermae baths on one day. I think that's a complete waste of money if you're staying at Macdonald Spa. The water is a few degrees warmer at the hotel and the whole experience is much more relaxing. There's too many people at the thermae baths and the water, especially on the rooftop […] is not warm enough. Two negatives are the 15m walk into the centre and the breakfast was rather expensive but all in all I loved Macdonald Bath Spa and would go there again. Lesa meira
"Lovely hotel on doorstep to Bath"
We stayed in the hotel with our young baby and it was lovely. We had a room upgrade to a four poster, massive comfy bed, we ordered room service which was good and the spa was lovely, particularly the outside spa. I have been there before and the place is not as grand as I remember but it is very close to the city and I would definately stay there again […] if I could get a deal on the room. The only criticism I have is that there are steps to the hotel and I had to try and get a big pram up them whilst 3 or 4 staff members stood by and did not help. Lesa meira
"Far to basic for the price"
The rooms are sorely in need of an upgrade. The building , its surroundings and the genereal neighbourhood are superb, but I can't say the same about the rooms. Room service was something out of Faulty Towers -- a real joke!

"MacDonald Hotel, Bath Spa - A luxurious must!"
The perfect base to see the lovely city of Bath, especially at Christmas time. The rooms are very comfortable, staff couldn't be more helpful and a visit to the restaurant and spa is a must . Having visited the ThermaeSpa, the hotel spa is easily comparable, only smaller. The hotel is a short taxi ride away from the centre (sorry, far too many shopping […] bags to consider the walk, although it is possible!). It was a lovely relaxing weekend. Lesa meira
"Macdonald Bath Spa"
The hotel was very nice, a short walk from Bath town centre and set in a beautiful surroundings. The spa facilities were of a very high quality and the staff friendly. My only complaint would be that I was charged for parking in the hotel car park, that seemed a bit odd. There was also a rule against children going into the outdoor pool. I can appreciate […] other guests do not want to be bothered but we're responsible parents to our 10 month old daughter and she would have loved it.... maybe when older? much older obviously. "Macdonald Bath Spa - a lovely place to stay"
We stayed for 3 nights to visit Bath and see the Christmas markets. We've been regular visitors to this hotel for the last 4 years and so would recommend the hotel. Positives - Hotel very impressive, lovely Spa, Concierge (Andrew) was extra helpful, staff very accomodating Negatives - Lights in outdoor pool still not working (3rd year running), Car […] park charge seems penny pinching when the barrier is never in use, pillows not very comfortable Lesa meira
"Great hotel."
Overall it was a great hotel. The decor, the room, the bathroom, the service, and the facilities are great. Location wise, we have to walk 15-20min to get to the center of Bath, but it is quite a comfortable walk. But you should be prepared to pay extra for anything else other than the standard room charge. Let alone wi-fi, morning newspaper delivered […] to the room cost 1pound each, which we were not told when we check in and should not be charged as a 5 star hotel. They also charge 1 pound extra for charity of their choice, which I don't mind but would be nice if we are told at the time of check in. And also outdoor parking costs 5 pounds per day despite the fact that they have a lot of car spaces. Lesa meira
"Spa experince in Bath"
This was well worth the money...the spa area was 10 times better at the hotel than the Therma spa in town. I would have been disappointed to go to a regular hotel then only have the Therma spa experience. Staff were very lovely and I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to unwind and have a spa break in Bath.
We very much enjoyed the Spa Hotel, Bath and in particular the staff and atmosphere was so friendly and helpful.
"Great hotel, Fantastic Location"
We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights during a trip to the UK. What a beautiful place! The accommodation had plenty of room for us and our 12 year old son (fold out bed - with a lovely thick mattress and very comfortable). The facilities of the hotel were also very good. The only downside is that a lot of the facilities, i.e jacuzzi, steam room, cold […] room and outside pool were not accessible to our son as he was under 14 and I feel this should be more openly advertised, although he was more than happy to use the indoor pool! We had a turndown service to our room and it was lovely to come back after an evening meal and find Classic FM playing on the tv, the curtains drawn and soft lighting on. We only had one meal at the hotel and this was breakfast which was quite expensive for the 3 of us at 52 pounds - that said it was very good! The staff could not do enough for you and were always extremely courteous and helpful. We would definitely recomme nd this hotel to friends and family and stay there again ourselves. Lesa meira

"Great deal at about 70% off the normal rate."
Plus points: Rooms, value, spa, outdoor swimming pool/jacuzzi. Minus points: Automaticallly adding £1 for a charity donation on check out and £5 for parking. Breakfast not included. We stayed here in September 2011 for a special offer of 70% off per night. The hotel is situated abbout 10 minutes walk from the city centre in a very up market area of […] town (although most of the town is upmarket to be honest!) The rooms are very spacious and the bathrooms are fantastic (including Molton Brown products). You get to use the spa facilities for free, which includes an outdoor sunbathing area with a swimming pool and jacuzzi/whirl pool types things. The only main downside is the cheeky £1 that they automatically add for a charity donation on checkout. You can guarantee that MacDonald Hotels put this towards their own charity donations for the year and big themselves up in their yearly accounts. Ridiculous!!! I give enough money to charity without being forced by a hotel. They said that you can opt out but no scrooge is going to do this once it's been added. Lesa meira

No complaints- the staff were charming, the food was excellent and the room was excellent too. We thought when we booked it that it was a bit far out of town if the weather was bad, but as it turned out, it was a comfortable walk. The hotel garden is beatiful with some rare trees in it.

First time in Bath and first time in a Macdonald hotel - and we were impressed by both. Quality hotel with very good staff and facilities to match. Only downside was how quiet the lounge always seemed although to be fair this wasnt a bad thing if you wanted to read.... Good quiet location and lovely grounds although a few little touches that would have […] made it a good 5* were missing. Not great. The service in the restaurant was poor. Firstly the waiters forgot our wine, then asked us if we wanted desert or coffee before our main courses had arrived, then forgot to bring the side order with one of the main meals. Booked a room for one night (saturday) arrived at hotel about 11.30 am and the room was already available! it was clean, comfortable and very quiet. The room was at the back of the hotel overlooking the spa area. Ideal location for walking into Bath centre. Used the swimming pool and spa rooms on saturday which were not busy at all. Compared to all other hotel in the UK this hotel is spacious, have all the amenities, and offers indoor swimming pool, a spa, and a good exercise room. I would definitely select it again.

No hot water in the morning - unbelieveable for a 5 star hotel. When asked reception, was told that it happens from time to time. Ok if you can hang around and wait for it to be fixed, but would not recommend if you need to leave for a meeting.

"Beautiful hotel in lovely grounds, near park/shops"
Very pleasant stay and friendly, helpful staff. The spa was perfect with a lovely pool and jacuzzi inside and a small outside pool with jakuzzi plus plenty of room to sit or lie in the sun. We didn't try the breakfast, as it was a bit pricey and there were lots of cafes in the town within walking distance. Also friends who came by car felt that a […] car park fee wasn't really justified for guests. The room was gorgeous with a huge window and lovely view. It was a bit disconcerting however that the window was floor to ceiling without even a small rail to stop you walking straight out to the drop below - a small detail in an otherwise gorgeous room.. Upgraded to a suite upon request, which was excellent apart from an uncomfortable bed !! Spa facilities excellent and Hotel only a short walk from Bath centre. Hotel itself is well presented in every way. Hotel is not cheap and the practice of charging for car parking is "petty".

"Absolutelly disappointing!"
Despite being very polite, staff was absolutelly inefficient and unable to meet our needs. Simple things as asking to fix the heating, or bringing the TV's remote control didn't get done, or took ages. For the price we paid, the expectation was to receive 5 star service. Far from that.

We had the standard room and it was standard. Lower ground, so quite dark. Uninteresting furniture, uninteresting bathroom. No Wifi in the rooms, paying wifi in the lobby, damaged door handle, fuzzy TV reception on ITV. Basically, it was fine. They cater a huge amount for large uninspiring weddings and conferences, it seems. Fine if someone else is […] paying for it and you're not expecting anything special. Rather disappointing otherwise. "Bath Spa Hotel, Bath"
Hotel staff all extremely helpful and attentive. The hotel well kept (in the main) and nicely furnished. The food was extremely nice and well presented. The main disppointment was the condition of the marble floor tiles in our bathroom which were stained and looked grubby and unhygienic. Room service came promptly to attend to the complaint but even […] when scrubbed hard, the tiles looked as though they were still dirty. The hotel is up a hill well out of the centre of Bath and too far away to consider walking into the town. In conclusion, an expensive hotel, remote from the town centre but the service, facilities and general ambience were worth it. Lesa meira

"Mcdonald Bath Spa"
Excellent hotel. Staff really friendly and helpful. We were upgraded to a superior room which was a lovely comfortable room. Beautiful area outside to sit and relax in the sun and enjoy a chilled glass of wine. Spa has several areas including steam room and Ice room - worth a visit. A short walk to town which was uphill on the way back but taxi's are […] plenty in Bath so no problem walking down and taxi back. Highly recommend and I would defnately visit again. Lesa meira
"Beautiful hotel"
Beautiful hotel in even more beautiful surroundings. The grounds are breath-takingly stunning. We enjoyed walking around the grounds so much that we didnt see anything else in Bath. The staff are friendly and the room sparkling clean. The spa was fantastic too. A definate plus point is the cheap parking. I was expecting to pay a lot more.
"Don't bring your kids here!"
We were told before booking that this hotel was kid friendly but it wasn't. We checked in with a girl called Emma that had no personality very rude and acted like she couldn't be bothered when I asked for an upgrade to a suite. We then wanted to take our 3 yr old son swimming in the pool which was the biggest reason we picked this hotel and was told […] at 5:30 that kids were not allowed to swim after 5pm due to their spa rules. After complaining and waiting 10 mins for a manager he said we could swim for 20 mins we also could only swim in the indoor pool. After 25 mins my son and wife were in the jacuzzi and a member of the staff came in and told us that my son was too young to be in the jacuzzi and said it was time for us to leave. There was nobody else in the swimming area but us so we were'nt bothering anyone. It was ridiculous!!! The concierge guys were very good but I wouldn't bring children here as it's a little stuffy and for older people. Lesa meira

We had a wonderful stay and experience, the bar was great, with a Bartender named Luca who can mix any drink you had in your mind; the spa was superb, specially the fragrant shower; the drawing room and the courtyard where excellent for tea, breakfast and a good conversation. Although there is only one eating option during the night which was a little […] upsetting.In the end if you're looking to relax and have a wonderful experience Macdonald Bath Spa is a perfect choice. The hotel was set in lovely surroundings, close to all the main sights of Bath and the staff were exceptionally friendly, helpful and efficient. The Spa facilities were very good but generally not very well maintained as changing rooms, poolside and spa room areas were often messy and untidy with discarded towels, shampoo bottles, newspapers etc. We […] visited the therapy rooms in the spa for massages during our stay and the overall experience was ok but not very relaxing. The therapists were really friendly but the the treatments themselves were disappointing. There was also some maintenance work going on in the corridoor so our massages were accompanied throughout by the sound of drilling! Also, the relaxation room we were taken to after the massages resembled a well-used reading room (again, messy and a bit tired-looking) rather than a spa and didn't compare well to some other hotel spa's I've visited before. The ambience of the spa wasn't quite the peaceful, relaxed vibe you would expect. The guest rooms were a good size, comfortable and clean and the bathrooms were also lovely - the Molton Brown complimentary products were a nice touch! On check-in we were given a room upgrade which was fantastic, however the room next door was being refurbished during our stay so there was often noise from 9am onwards for the entire day. 9am doesn't sound early, but its not ideal if you want a lay-in or to just relax in your room! One last criticism is that you are charged £5 for parking at the hotel even if you are a guest. Its not a huge amount, but I find it a bit odd they don't waive the charge for residents given that the room rates aren't exactly cheap. Aside from a few negatives our overall experience was really enjoyable - all of the staff we encountered were really helpful, its a good hotel within walking distance of everything Bath has to offer. "Enjoyed the spa, but not pleased with service"
I stayed for 2 night in Bath spa hotel, it was so special trip for me. But I was not happy with the way of talking of the receptionist to the customer. Well, she was not patient enough to explain things kindly, as we could not understand what she meant. (she had strong accent..dont think she is British.) We had to ask few more time to explain but she […] (both of the receptionist) had no smile and made me feel un- welcomed. The waiters in the restaurant were great with smiles, but all the womans I met in that hotel were... They should learn how to welcome people with smiles even though they are foreigners! For the facilities, food, and location, beautiful garden was satisfied as 4-5 star hotel, but the receptionist's service,, for this time, I can only say they are 2 star hotel! Lesa meira

Great spa including heated outdoor pool with jets and waterfall, various steam/sauna rooms. A 10 minute walk to restaurants etc in Bath. Staff very attentive. Drinks a little pricey.
"The Perfect Treat"
We booked this hotel for a few nights as part of our honeymoon journey through Great Britain. Everything was even better than we anticipated. The grounds are beautiful and perfectly peaceful. We had a quiet lunch one afternoon in the garden and loved every bite. The location made it the perfect "home base" for excursions to Stone Henge and Avebury, […] which we took advantage of. The town shuts down rather early though, so if you want to eat, make sure you plan ahead. The Concierge was extremely helpful in coordinating meals outside of the hotel (Ra, was the best!). Please have a pie at the Raven -you will not be disappointed in the atmosphere, completely charming and one of a kind -you will however be disappointed if you arrive too late for pie and have to stumble home with a belly full of ales and ciders without much else. Before leaving, we had a massage and were very satisfied. We spent the rest of the day smelling like lavender. The town is very sleepy but it makes for a peaceful getaway. The hotel was delightful but a 15 minute walk from the city centre. The hotel did not offer a shuttle ride to the city. Carefully check your bill when you check out as we were charged for parking. We did not even have a car. Also, they charged 3 pounds a day for a Financial Times. If you use your credit card to pay your bill they charge 2.50. The food […] was excellent, but quite expensive. The perfect place to escape and relax, yet close enough to all Bath has to offer. The hotel setting is wonderful. It is a short distance from the centre of Bath ( bit of an uphill hike back to the hotel) but as parking is a problem in Bath it is very convenient to leave the car in the hotel carpark and walk everywhere. There are some lovely restauarnts […] within a short distance of the hotel and the walk through Sydney Gardens is glorious. If you are fortunate enough to have good weather enjoy afternoon tea on the garden terrace at the fron tof the hotel. If not, head for the spa. The treatment I had was wonderfully relaxing and the standard of the facility is extremely high. Lesa meira
"Not a 5 star hotel"
Hotel OK, but not a 5 star hotel. Room was ok, very clean and quiet but old and worn, specially the bath tub. Room was normal, but not what you would expect on a 5 star hotel (no minibar, regular tv with basic channels and nothing else, no clock, worn furniture, the kettle must have been from the 80's). The bed was great. Got room service once, very […] poor and expensive. Have had much better room service in lower rate hotels. Restaurants at the hotel closed too early. At checkout they wanted to charge us for a breakfast that we did not order, but the problem was solved quickly. Location is ok, 10 minutes walk from city centre but if you do not have a car there is not a sidewalk on the last 100 m to the main street so you have to walk on the street where taxis and other cars are coming quite fast from the corner and do not see you. I do not undestang how they have nor sorted this out. Did not have much interaction with staff, but everyone was quite friendly. Lesa meira
"Macdonald Spa Hotel, Bath"
What a wonderful hotel! Very plush with beautiful gardens. Staff very friendly and helpful! It was a real treat to stay there.

The Macdonald Spa has a touch of class, with well kept gardens and great facilities. The only issue was that we had booked the hotel to relax and on the Saturday the weather was great (rare I know) so we booked to eat at the Al Fresco restaurant. This would also give the advantage of not having to get to over dressed. When we arrived the wedding party […] had taken over ever table outside and the bar inside so we were seated in the corridor. This certainly did not feel relaxing so we discussed walking into town, but the waiter was very helpful and understood our complaint. We were moved to the restaurant inside for fine dining and although underdressed had a fantastic meal even if inside. You should check if a wedding has been booked on you stay and then you can make better arrangements. Lesa meira

Very comfortable and relaxing stay enjoyed all the facilities. Although disabled everything was catered for and once the hotel was informed every thing that we wished to do was catered for. Highly recommended.

Stayed for one night in may 10- Fantastic setting and building, Staff very pleasant and food excellent. but the rooms although well appointed need attention.,The walls had many scuffs on them so did the bed and the carpet was a little threadbare , The tiles in the bathroom were chipped. I ran a bath and large flakes from the bath enamel were floating […] in the water along with some stray masking tape?!, The glass shelves in the bathroom could have done with more than a light dust. My breakfast in bed was excellent but the trolly it came on looked as if it had been recovered from a filthy skip, it was so shabby i called house keeping who were very appologetic. This beautiful hotel is full of English charm and very convenient for the centre of Bath, but at the moment it is not quite up to 5* continental standards of housekeeping or maintainence. Lesa meira
"Bath Spa Macdonald Hotel"
Good all round hotel. Friendly and courteous staff. Idyllic location & a great spa. Would thorougly recommend it. Went mid week when rates where very reasonable for this type of hotel which was the icing on the cake!
