Travelodge Newport Area/Middletown – Middletown

Everything was fine and clean. The personnel were polite and responsive. All of that said, it is not a luxurious hotel, it is a motel with a small pool and a minimal selection of breakfast foods -- mostly all carbs + boiled eggs. It's a fine place, but when you read the 5 stars some folks gave it -- it can be a little misleading.

It was a nice place and the service was great, but it wasn't what I was expecting for the price we paid. But the staff was super friendly and accommodating. The complementary breakfast was great too.

Rooms were clean. It's a little out of the way but for the price it was good. Outdoor pool was not open for our stay but we weren't expecting it to be this early in the season.

Totally remodeled, extremely clean inside and out. A real bargain for the money and so close to pricey Newport, RI.

This motel's outside belies how nice it is. My wife and I were a little scared when we rolled in at midnight in a nothing-nearby neighborhood. However, our room was very clean and a lot nicer and more comfortable than we expected. Stayed only 1 night, but I was extremly impressed. The room that I stayed in looked like it was just redone. All the furniture and the carpet was new. The room looked like I was the first person to stay in it, thats how clean and updated it was. Breakfast was decent the following morning. The Hotel was in a good location at well.

This place was great for a last minute reservation I had to make for myself and 17 months old daughter. They brought in a crib within 10 minutes of our arrival and were nice and quite as I requested. Although there was some painting going on during my stay, the kind service well overwhelmed by any annoyance that would happen from a little wet paint. I stayed during the off-season and was pretty much the only guest. I felt like I was going to be part of a horror movie or something. The manager acted like he upgraded me to a double room, when that's what I paid for. It was fine for a night stay, but wouldn't return. Breakfast was really scarce, but I was one of the very few guests.

My daughter and I were on a weekend getaway to see Newport, RI. I did not want to waste money on an expensive hotel since I knew we would only be there to go to sleep each night, and this was one of the cheapest I could find. Only serious complaint was the in rom coffee maker. Hard to figure out how to use and the coffee was terrible.

This is an older hotel but very clean, the staff was pleasant, the bed was comfortable, and it was close and convenient to downtown Newport. It's a very basic hotel, but reasonable and comfortable.

What it lacks in scenery it makes up for in just providing the actual necessities. It was a ten min drive to everything we wanted in Newport. It fit our budget. We felt like we got a deal. This was the least expensive lodging I could find for the weekend of the Newport Boat Show. I am sort of a clean freak so I was nervous about a 2-star hotel, bur the reviews were good so we took a chance and my husband and I were very pleasantly surprised. Even though our room faced the nearby main road, we were not bothered by traffic noise. The beds were comfortable, the a/c actually worked well and was not as noisy as most hotel a/cs. There was a small refrigerator, microwave and coffee-maker in the room and a very generous breakfast in the morning (included in the price). It's not the Ritz but I would say it is a good, solid 3-star property in a pleasant commercial (retail/restaurant) area and very convenient to the Boat Show shuttle parking. Lesa meira

It was one of the worse hotels we ever stayed in. We checked in late and were told we were the last guest. It was summer and the a/c didnt work. When we complained the next morning, we were told that we should have said something during the night. We were moved to a renovated room 2 doors down with a new a/c system. They could have given us that room […] to start. The next day we were getting ready for a family wedding at 4 pm when they knocked on the door to clean the room. We never had the room cleaned. The hotel is very close to Newport RI and much more affordable than Newport hotels. This is reasonable if the main attraction is Newport. The hotel itself should not be the destination. The breakfast is spare. The rooms have thin walls. The doors are all exterior facing. You will hear anyone walking around or conversing in the parking lot. Don't look […] too closely at the condition of the building. Even though the housecleaners are doing their best, they cannot reverse the effects of aging and some shoddy maintenance attempts. It appears to be a privately owned hotel in which the owners are doing their best, but may need a bit more help and be willing to pay a bit more for repairs and upkeep. You get what you pay for. Clean room with just the right amenities for a lot less than staying in Newport. Wireless Internet very poor, spotty service.

I stayed here for 2 nights and it was a great value. The room was clean and comfortable. The location was great, as the place I proposed to my girlfriend was right down the street. And downtown Newport was just only 5 mins away. The price was good.

Room had unpleasant musty odor. No wastebasket for trash. Bathroom sink leaked. Room and bathroom were clean. Staff were friendly. Price was o.k. for area.

I stayed there many times. It is very close to Newport and very affordable. There is a swimming pool which is very clean and never crowded. The rooms were clean and comfortable. I will stay there again when I go to Newport next time.

I make an annual business trip to Newport in early August and have stayed at this Travel Lodge for probably ten years or so. They've recently remodeled which has improved the ambiance considerably, but frankly I'm only interested in an air conditioned clean room located near my business venue and this hotel fits the bill. There's free WiFi as well, […] which is a plus for me, though in the past I've noticed the closer to the Main Office the room the better the connectivity. This may have improved with the remodeling, though I can't say for sure since this year I was in a room relatively close to the Main Office. Everything was as I expected. Clean room, enough towels, clean pool area and sufficient continental breakfast. What more do I need? This is a good value for the area and only ten minutes from everything. I would stay there again.

Our room was newly refurbished and in very good condition. The room was very large. The pool was very small. Breakfast was basic, two cold cereals, hard boiled eggs, toast, pastries and waffle maker.

A little overpriced for this type of motel. Overall, it was clean enough for our two night stay. Only one bath, hand, face towel for each of us and one tiny bottle of shampoo and 2 small bars of soap. Trash cans weren't emptied while we were away from our room. Nor was our bed made up.

The door of our hotel room was a bit warped, so we had to give it a little push to close the door. There was a mild smell of urine as soon as we entered the room. We had to use body mist spray as air freshener every time we were in the room to camouflage the urine smell. The beddings did not feel clean. The towels were so linty that my daughters and […] I could pick up lints from our skin when we applied lotion after taking a shower. I had to return the towels to the front desk so they can see for themselves how much lint those towels had. I asked for replacement towels. The towels from the front desk had less lint and seemed cleaner than the towels that they put in the hotel room. I had to take a shower again. What makes it even worse is that there was something in that room that one of my daughters and I were allergic to, because every morning when we woke up, our eyes were puffy and my eyes felt itchy. It could be because of the velour blanket or the sticky bed cover. I have read some bad and good reviews about Travelodge but I thought that I'd give Travelodge a shot, thinking that the bad reviews in the past had made the management correct the problems...Apparently not.
