Ég og konan erum hlauparar og ferðumst varla án þess að hlaup komi þar við sögu. Nú var komið að því að hlaupa í Bristol, en hvernig átti að komast þangað og hvar átti að búa. Við vorum svo heppin að uppgötva vefsíðuna Hotels.com og þar fundum við hótel nálæt þeim stað sem upphaf og endir hlaupsins virtist vera og á verðlagi sem okkur fannst eðlilegt. Við pöntuðum síðan hótelið í gegnum Hotels.com og stóðst allt í sambandi við það, í raun þekkum við ekki til Hotels.com en spurðumst lítillega fyrir um það hjá hótelum hérna heima og virtust þeir ekki þekkja það nema af góðu. Við flugum til Heathrow, tókum lest frá Heathrow til Paddington stöðvarinnar í London, og þaðan tókum við lest til Bristol. Ferðin frá flugvellinum til Bristols tók um fjórar klukkustundir, en meðan við vorum í Bristol uppgötvuðum við að það er bæði fljótara, þægilegra og ódýrara að taka rútubíl (bus) beint á milli Bristol og Heathrow flugvallarins. En nú vorum við komin til járnbrautarstöðvarinnar í Bristol, þaðan var um 15 mínútna gangur á hótelið. Hótelið kom okkur skemmtilega á óvart, stafsfólkið þægilegt, og staðsetningin svo að segja fullkomin hvað okkur hlauparana varðaði því startið í hlaupinu og endamarkið voru svo að segja umhverfis hótelið í 100 metra fjarlægð. Hlaupara leggja mikið uppúr staðsetningu frá starti og endamarki svo það gat ekki verið betra. Hlauparar leggja líka mikið uppúr að sturtuaðstaða sé góð á herbergjunum, en það var mjög góð sturtuaðstaða á Ibis Bristol Centre. Morgunmatur var ekki innifalin, þótti okkur það kostur, en það var hægt að fá góðan morgunmat á hótelinu ef maður vildi á sanngjörnu verði að því okkur fannst, líka var hægt að fá hádegis og kvöldmat þarna, svo var líka hægt að sitja þarna niðri á kvöldin með bjór eða kaffi ef maður vildi. Í nágreninu og miðbænum sem er í um 10 til 30 mínútna göngufjarlægð er líka mikið úrval af kaffistöðum og veitingastöðum. Á herberginu var aðstaða til að hita sér vatn og fá sér té eða kaffi og líkaði okkur það. Það má því

"Location is great, as is the hotel."
The location of the hotel is unbeatable. We could hear the bells of the abbey and look out to see the parade grounds. I was initially concerned that a BW may be a big box, but they have sensitively maintained much of the character of the wonderful old hotel while incorporating modern amenities like a full, modern, spacious bathroom. "Perfect Location"
The Abbey hotel is ideally located; close to all shops and sights. The room was a bit noisy when people wandered around shouting after their pub visits. WiFi connection was good. Room was too warm; unable to regulate the temperature. Taking a shower was an interesting challenge and I finally had to have someone come in and explain. All in all though, […] an adequate place! This is a great hotel, with lots of character and in the best location in Bath. We look forward to staying there again! The room was large, well furnished and we really liked the tea room and lounge on the ground floor. It is only a 10 minute walk from the Bath Spa railway station. The Best Western Abbey Hotel is a large hotel for Bath, but charming and ideally located. It is a few blocks from the train station, and two blocks to the Abbey, which is across the street from the Roman Bath. The price of the hotel includes a choice of hearty breakfasts. "The Abbey Hotel in Bath"
Great location, walking distance to all the main attractions. very helpful and freindly staff. When we checked in we thought the room was very small and the bed was uncomfortable and not good value... however we asked to be moved to a bigger room and we were moved the next day to a very nice room, much bigger with a walk in closet and nice seating […] area and we were much more comfortable. Perfect location for exploring Bath. Parking not great, had to park in a large pay and display, five minute walk away £ 12.00 for 24 hours. The room was comfortable and clean, hotel simple and unpretentious though it feels as though its been a hotel for years and was probably grander in its heyday. The hotel is in the best location in bath. Our windows had a view of Bath Abbey and the river. It fronted on the stone plaza of North Parade. It is just steps from the Sally Lund House and other great restaurants. We walked about three minutes to the Roman Baths, Abby and Pump Room. The same distance in the other direction, is the new shopping mall. […] We took the train to Bath, and were just a short walk from the hotel. Staff were nice and friendly. There was a cute little lobby/bar/tearoom. The only downside was the small elevator and problems with controling the shower temperature. I undersand that this normal in hotels in the historic area of Bath. The location and quality more than compensated. "Centrally located hotel in bath"
The Best Western in Bath is centrally located to all the shopping districts and sights. The hotel should be a 3 star, the staff were very pleasant and I cannot fault the location. However, we booked 2 rooms on the 3rd floor and there was a problem with the heating and water in the bedroom/bathroom. The water was scalding hot, and the bedroom was like a […] sauna. We had the rads turned off and the windows open and yet the room was boiling. we could not sleep with the noise of partygoers passing the font of the hotel, which is next door to the huntsman pub, so DO NOT book this hotel if you are looking for a nights sleep. "The hotel was very convenient for all the sights"
of Bath. The staff were very welcoming and the breakfast was amazing. The room we were in was quite noisy first thing in the morning but apart from that it was a really good experience and I will be staying again.

Good hotel in the heart of Bath. No need for car as everything nearby!! Staff were good and the rooms comfortable. Only problem central heating made noise.
Everything about this hotel is just great. Large nice room, very clean. Great breakfast. The only negativ thing to mention was the Wi-fi too sloow.

Location is amazing, but we came into Bath in the middle of the night by train and nobody (taxis) knew the hotel as a Best Western, so ask for the "Abbey hotel". Only about a 7 minute walk from train station. Breakfast is fantastic and you can order offvthe menu if it is included.

There are so many hotels & BnB's in Bath to choose from and I looked at many of them online! Couldnt decide and then choose this one and I must say the location was perfect. 5 minute walk to the train station- close to everything- not that Bath is that big! The Best Western Abbey Hotel was in a great position for what we required. Everything about the Hotel was to our complete satisfaction and we were very pleased that we selected this hotel.

We liked this hotel but the room walls are very thin and the town centre vicinity to bars etc means its not the best place for a good nights sleep. But if you want everything on your door step then its great.

The hotel was very central and reasonably priced. Unfortunately I wouldn't stay again in summer as the room was extremely stuffy and hot even when it was about 18c degrees outside. Not exactly a heatwave! This meant you had to sleep with the windows open and it was extremely noisy. Traffic noise due to cobbles, birds and drunks we had it all - all through […] the night. This hotel is a perfect location for city bus tours and the roman baths. Was close to parks, pubs, restaurants and shopping. Parking was a bit of an issue though and the window in our room had no lock and was accessible from the outside, posing a bit of a security threat in my mind. This hotel is ideally located for sight seeing in Bath. All the places of interest are within a few minutes walking distance, particularly the Abbey and the Roman Baths. "Abbey Hotel York - great location"
We enjoyed our stay here. Location was great for all amenaties. Even the sight seeing bus was right outside! Staff were very friendly and helpful. If I had one complaint it would be the shower.... Would stay again

Great location, I had a fantastic view from my 3rd floor room. The room was a good size and very comfortable. Definitely a little dated, and the creaky floors in the hallway were a little annoying, but overall it was a great experience.

The Best Western Abbey Hotel has a prime location. It is central to everything in Bath and provides a great jump off point. That said, I was very disappointed with the quality of our room. For the price paid, I would expect a standard modern hotel. Instead, the furniture was cheap (like something out of a dorm room) and the carpet was old. This is a lovely older hotel right on a main square in Bath and very accessible to everything. They have a tea room/ restaurant on the premises, and offer a very nice breakfast. The room we had was in the back overlooking all the roofs, so it was quiet except for the morning wake up by the roosting sea gulls. Staff couldn't have been nicer. "Abbey Hotel Bath, Great Location."
A five minute walk from the train station, around the corner from Bath Abbey and the Roman Baths, the Abbey hotel boasts a great location. The hotel was clean and staff were helpful and courteous. The 3 o'clock check-in was strictly adhered to , which isn't great if you arrive early. However we had a later check out ( 12 o'clock), without a problem. The […] breakfast comprised avery good selection of hot and cold food. Our room was at the back of the hotel, so the only noise we had was from the many seagulls in Bath,( very noisy!). "Abbey Hotel - great locality"
This is the second time we have stayed in this hotel. Very central, parking is about 5 minutes walk away in multi-storey car park. Staff are always helpful, and only minutes away from a great variety of restaurants, coffee shops and general shopping streets.

Amazing location in the very centre of Bath with easy access to all the shops and attractions. Hotel has seen better days and our room at the back of the hotel was tired and in need of redecoration and was very noisy, woken each day at 6am as the bins were emptied and deliveries made right outside our room

This was the perfect place to stay for a weekend of Christmas shopping and sight seeing. Everything is within a five minute walk of the hotel,.Great service., having breakfast included in the price was super, the waiter said you can have anything you like on the menu, the quality was good. Actually, the hotel exceeded my expectations. The room/bathroom appeared to have been recently renovated. Better than their website photos! Full breakfast was excellent.

My wife and I loved staying in this hotel. We were only there for one night, but wish it could have been more. The value was great. The bathroom was big and clean. Great walking tour hosted by the city (free as well!) starts at the roman baths and takes you through all the sites of the city. "All about location"
Ideally located for everything central when coming for daughter's wedding: Guildhall, Roman Baths, shops. Tricky parking so come by train or taxi! Very pleasant and helpful staff especially the acting night porter, James.
