Hotel was ok, ...Its obviously common knowledge with the taxi drivers regarding the extortionate bar prices, obviously we avoided the bar because of this, only to get 2 coffees before setting off to the Blackpool Hilton...and to be charged over £7 for 2 medium cappucinos in the "costa" bar in the reception area. ( 2 cappucinos at the LONDON SAVOY in […] the strand are £6.50, a far cry from a motorway hotel in Lancashire..!!! ) I dont mind spending money or paying a fair price for anything....Whilst I understand they are there to make a profit they should NOT be blatantly ripping people off when they decide to stay in their hotel Lesa meira

Whilst the hotel itself is a superb facility the service and competency of the management team was poor. We were a group of 20 and decided to eat in the hotel restaurant on Saturday night. There were only six other people in the restaurant that evening so we expected the service to be good. The key issues were in the timely delivery of meals to individuals […] where in some cases side orders were arriving after the meal was finished. Steaks were not cooked to the specified order and the preparation and dressing of the plates was poor. On discussing this with Jordan (the duty manager) he failed to grasp the issue in that the restaurant was nearly empty and his customers were not happy. He explained that they did not expect so many people to be eating that night!!!. He did offer to reduce future drinks prices by 20% but his overall handling of the problem was poor. The foolowing morning further problems were experienced at breakfast with a similar poor handling of the issues by Jarod. Lesa meira

Very conveniently located, and actually a pleasant surprise for a hotel in a service station. They were undergoing a refurb at time of visit, so the reception was a bit of a mess, but the staff lovely. Breakfast was very expensive though, and the staff at breakfast very slow and not very helpful.

Excellent 1 night stay here. Hotel just off the M6, staff very welcoming and helpful. Room was very nice, extremely comfortable bed and food very good. Couldn't fault it.

This is a great hotel, I stayed here only for one night on a business trip, and would certainly do so again. The food was excellent although slightly on the pricey side. Breakfast was really good too and very friendly staff.

Nice hotel for what we paid. The lobby and bar area are really nice, i just hope they extend this refurb to the bedrooms too as ours was a little dated. We had some really nice tea and hot chocolate in the bar and sunday lunch carvery was very nice, if a little quiet. The only disapointments was the bedroom was dusty and had cobwebs, the bathroom was […] a little old and rotten and the light made the loudest noise ever which meant we couldnt put it on in the middle of the night. Ignore the motorway location,recently refurbished this hotel provides a little bit of serenity in areas better known for hustle and bustle. The staff are very friendly, helpful and seem to enjoy serving you. It is clean and comfortable with a degree of luxury. Ideal for a mid point meeting of friends from Scotland and England. Considering it was right next to the M6 it was very quiet . We had the dog with us and this was no problem at all, she had space to run along the river at the back of the hotel along the river. I would use this hotel again.

This hotel was having MAJOR refurbishment when we arrived. It was like walking into a bomb site. They were refurbishing reception and their offices, It would have been good to have prior warning - then we could have decided whether we wanted to stay there or not. The staff were very apologetic and embarrassed as they had not had prior warning. The hotel is located very close to both city and country side, Our room had a lovely view. Big refurbishments were taking place, so it was a bit noisy.

Overal, the hotel was ideal. It was under refurbishment so Im sure it will improve. My only gripe was the size of the tables, eating breakfast was a challenge

Good location for us, attending a wedding in Whitefield and reception in Leyland. Food and drinks very pricey. We only had breakfast on the 2 mornings we stayed, the toast was just warm bread, although when I asked them to put it back under the grill to colour it they did. We thought the bacon and sausages were under cooked, you could have as much as […] you wanted. Some of the restaurant staff need to smile a bit more. The room was comfortable with everything you needed, we found nail clippings on the carpet so could have been hoovered a little better. All in all it suited our stay for the weekend wedding. I'd been past the Tickled Trout many times but never stayed. Needed a reasonably cheap place to stay in Preston at short notice, and it was spot on. Handy location, nice hotel. Would happily stay here again.

The hotel was nice enough but we had a couple of issues: The receptionist could not speak English or understand what we were asking of her (travel time to the restaurant) The room could have been cleaner. We had a bit of a lie in on day 1 and when we got back the room hadn't been maintained therefore we had no fresh milk. We got fresh milk from room […] service which wasn't very fresh and I wanted a cocktail before we went out which wasn't possible as they didn't have the ingredients. Beautiful hotel on a river valley. Doesn't look like much from the outside but the hotel interior is very nice and the rooms were excellent. Service was very good and obliging. We only stayed one night but it definitely was a place we would return to.

Very handy for breaking a trip down the M6. Our room was much nicer than the outside of the hotel suggested - clean, comfortable bed, etc. Evening meal was adequate, rather pricey for what it was. Drinks were steeply priced too, as other reviews have mentioned. At 9am the next morning hot breakfast items were looking & tasting a bit overcooked & tired, […] but the choice was good with lots of fresh fruit & pastries. A good tip from other reviews is to ask for a room away from motorway traffic if you're bothered by noise. All in all somewhere to stay for convenience, but it didn't quite live up to some of the more glowing comments on the website. Lesa meira

Whilst I would recommend this hotel for it's very convenient location for anyone travelling on the M6 I would not recommend it for eating. We felt the price of bar meals was extortionate for very uninspiring dishes.

The hotel is very conveniently situated next to the motorway system although the close proximity will not satisfy light sleepers due to traffic noise. Perhaps the secret is to request a room on the opposite side!!! The cost was very reasonable and the restaurant food was acceptable.

Firstly, the hotel is not sign posted as being in the service area so we did a detour looking for it. Secondly, on arrival the receptionist booked us in as "room only" even though we had paid for B&B. He failed to pass on a telephone message that had been left for us. On booking out, he tried to charge us for our room even though we had pre-paid. Thirdly, […] we had asked for a ground floor room, or one near to the lifts, as my wife has problems with stairs. Our room was "either up or down five steps" which was inconvenient. The bath in the room was not "disabled friendly" and my wife had to be helped in and out. We had chosen the Tickled Trout as we planned meeting up with a friend who had flown in from Canada; we'd flown from Cyprus. However, our friend's accommodation was changed to the Marriot, further up the motorway, and the message we never received was to tell us that. Because it was not passed on, we missed our dinner meeting and only arrived in time for a drink. Overall, we are not satisfied with the service we received and would NOT recommend the Tickled Trout to any of our friends. Lesa meira

My stay was brief but I was very imopressed by the size of the room and the cleanliness of the whole place. I have a nice quiet room at the back and slept well. One negative. The cost of the brekfast. I suspect that a lot of clients will choose to go next door to the services and spend around £3 on a breakfast and not circa £15 at the hotel. I did.

The hotel itself is OK but is quite twee and chintzy and in need of a refurb. Rooms very clean, constant dull roar of m6 so make sure you ask for a romm as far away as possible.
