"nice staff, economical hotel with breakfast"
Camino Inn and Suites was a very affordable place to stay while visiting Stanford. The hotel staff was very accommodating when we found a plumbing problem in our room, and promptly and graciously switched us to another room. The rooms are basic and clean but there was a little mold in the tub. The breakfast is also basic but adequate -- cereals, toast/bagels, […] sweet rolls, fruit, coffee/milk/juice. We got a great rate through hotels.com, so when we factor that with the location and basic meeting of our needs, we'd definitely stay there again when we visit Stanford over the next four years. "Did the job"
I flew in from the midwest to transport my father to Stanford Med Ctr for surgery and needed somewhere to stay. Given the travel expenses I'd already spent, I needed somewhere convenient and affordable. I came across Camino Inn and saw that they had rooms with kitchenettes. The room wasn't the cleanest room I'd stayed in, but it definitely wasn't the […] worst. It was right on El Camino Real, near shopping and food. The kitchen actually has a small stove, full size refrigerator (albeit a smaller size), microwave, and a small table with 2 chairs. The staff in the front office were very accommodating and helpful. A nice economical stay in a great location. It wasn't the cleanest place I have ever stayed but it fit our budget and fulfilled our needs.

We had a good economical stay. The lobby has been remodeled and is nice. The rooms are old and need to be upgraded. The smell is old. The prior owners had a great breakfast. The breakfast now is sufficient and met our needs. The staff was very courteous.

"Stanford Stadium"
This was a cheap, clean and convenient hotel that was a short cab ride from Stanford. Not a luxury hotel by any means, but great for what it is.

The Internet didn't work, the jacuzzi didn't work, and the room was depressing. The only good thing was the heater, which worked very well.

Rooms need serious updating. Tv was unwatchable, there was no WiFi as hotels .com promised, check in took forever, hot water for a shower lasts about 30 seconds, bathroom smelled like mildew and had a red splatter on the wall that looked like blood. Also was more expensive than nicer places we have stayed in the area.

Had to find a hotel for me, partner and 2 children to bridge a few nights between leaving my rental place and getting the keys of the new house. Sure, there are nicer neighborhoods in Mountain View, but the room was great value for its price, especially if you only spend the nights in the hotel room. "Camino Inn"
Very disappointing. I reserved a non-smoking room with 2 queen beds through hotels.com because 4 of us were staying in the room together. The woman at the front desk did not appear to know this was the case. The room ended up having 1 full bed and 1 king bed. A family appeared to be living in the room next to us for quite some time, as the children's […] leggos and other toys were scattered all across the hallway to our room. In addition, the parents sat in chairs in the hallway, smoking cigarettes and drinking beers. We had to step over them in order to get to our room. Even though our room was non-smoking, it reeked of smoke, and the people at the front desk said that smoking is permitted anywhere outside the rooms. Also the back door of our hotel room was bolted shut. This room was just so creepy, and we were very grateful to leave asap. We attempted to have the problems resolved by changing rooms, but the hotel was booked. Older property and pretty well worn rooms. Beds/pillows definately need upgrading. Tight bed area but great toilet/closet middle section. Bathroom GREAT large granite counter space with big tub/shower. Stuffy and could not crack back window for flow through air, had to keep vent running for entire 4 night stay. Saw less expensive rooms available at […] 3 & 4 star properties nearby, however between the very pleasant staff and privacy (we had our lawn chairs out all day in front of room for 1 day) comfortable and content. When I arrived to the hotel and got my key, I went to my assigned room and the key wouldn't work. Had to go to the desk to get the key reset. It still didn't work. The attendant was kind enough to put me in another room. When I got into the room, the carpet had huge stains all over it, the remote for the TV didn't work and the security lock consisted […] of 2 srews in the door frame which the deadbolt slid between. Like that wouldreally stop someone from getting in. I turned the TV on manually, and the picture was messed up like the tube was going out. The only decent thing in the room was the huge jaccuzi bathtub. However, the tub even had cracks in it. It was a dump if you ask me. I guess that's why it only cost less than surrounding hotels. "Convenience"
This hotel is convenient for me because I work in Palo Alto 4 days a month. It really is kind of a dive though. Pretty clean, but that's all I can say. They had to move me to another room three times because of some malfunction or another in the room. It's pretty basic.

"Lumpy bed, smelly room."
I stayed here for a few weeks 3 years ago when moving to the area, and again recently for 3 days as I search for a new place. It's declined in quality a great deal. Cons: Room was very musky/smelly - ran the A/C constantly with back window open to help. Bed overly soft & lumpy, frame was broken. Television had very fuzzy reception on most channels. Breakfast […] - 3 years ago it was great (eggs, bacon, etc.), now it's just a couple of sketchy pastries, cold cereal and oatmeal packets. Keycards - I had to go back to the desk twice during my stay because my key stopped working, they said it happens a lot. Pros: Cheapest in the area if you do a 3 night stay. Lesa meira

This hotel was clean and the room was comfortable, except the King bed mattress had a big sump in it and the Free Wi-fii didn't work. We asked about the internet at the front desk and they told us it doesn't work very well int he room, so I went to the lobby ~ it didn't work there either. Very disappointing, I do look for this as one of the amenities […] when I book a room. The staff had no interest in whether or not we were satisfied with our stay. Never asked a question when I checked out early. I would only recommend this hotel to someone not interested in frills like internet service. A clean room and shower is what it is good for. "Door Issues"
They put me in a room on the second floor that was at the furthest end of the faciltiy. I walked down with my luggage and the key did not work. I went back to the desk, they gave me a new key and it worked. In the morning I went to the continental breakfast and when I returned my key did not work. Walked back to the office got a new key, walked back […] to the room and it did not work. I walked back to the office and they go a maintenance man to open the room. "You get what you pay for!"
Checked in to find my room had not been cleaned from the previous guest. Left my belongings and went to dinner, asking them to get room cleaned during that time. Returned to a still dirty room and had to move my belongings to a different room myself. Lugged everything to my new room (which smelled vaguely of cigarettes despite being a nonsmoking room) […] only to discover my key didn't work. I was very glad I was just there for one night! I like the room. They are trying to modernize the place. I believe it is better after they upgrade some of the things in the room. The hair dryer outlet is dangerously broken and they do not have another one in the front desk. They advertise to have coffee in the room, and there is NO coffee pot there. Another guest came in while I was registering […] and complaint about the coffee pot did not work. The attitude of the check-in was not good. The guy was not happy and grumpy. My stay at this hotel was OK. I would stay here again if I had to, but would ask for a lower level room. "Camino - budget price and it shows"
Room was clean and comfortable but stale, musty smell and poor fittings, noisy A/c. No hot water at all one morning and no alternative available even to just take a shower. Not going back.

It was a quiet place, although the decor was antiquated. We were quite comfortable in the room and the proximity of ElCamino was not a problem.

Camino is under new management who are working hard to improve the property and are focused on their customer's satisfaction. Rooms are dated, but clean. Free breakfast buffet is very rudimentary, but a pleasant surprise at this price point. One of the worst experiences.. They advertise for free WiFi. The room I had was not within their WiFi range. I complained and the next day they shifted me to a different. Here the WiFi worked sometimes. The Fridge was not working and the Microwave was very old & dirty. I complained about the fridge but nothing happened. It spoiled all the food I had […] bought. In the morning there was no hot water in the shower. Again, I complained and the maintenance did some some magic. But after 30 mins or so again there was no hot water. The room was in great shape since it had recently been redone - new mattress, carpet and paint. The gentleman at front desk was very friendly. The only thing I missed was that there was no mini frig or coffee maker in the room.

Out of three rooms not one of them was in completely staying condition. Our card keys did not work and never was fixed. AC in one room did not work. The other room, the tv was not hooked up and the bathroom was dirty. The last room had only one work light. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED!

When I checked in the hotel at 3:30pm (check-in time was 3PM), I was given a key to my room at the reception. When I reached the room, I found the room was completely messy from the previous customer. The girl at the reception did not even know that the room was not cleaned until I called her. I had to wait 30 minutes outside the room when it got cleaned […] up in a hurry. The continental breakfast was also nothing to write home about. The little food they provided, was not replenished automatically when it ran out. I had to ask even for coffee on the first day. On the second day, there was nothing left on the breakfast counter at 8:50am (breakfast time is supposed to end at 9:30am) except coffee. They brought in some donuts after I complained. I was looking for a cheap place to stay that wasn't going to involve getting shot at, and they delivered. The staff is unhelpful but fairly cheerful about it, which counts for something. Note that most of the rooms don't have hot water, which was fairly unpleasant when it came time to shave and shower. Clean. Big bathtub, fridge. WiFi was a bit unreliable, but it is free. I think it is great value.
"An 'okay' stay"
The particular room we were in had a broken bathroom door. We had to slam it just for it to close. The tv made a high pitch noise while it was off. I can't say that the whole hotel had problems. The room was clean. The bathroom had a huge bathtub. Wonderful. The hotel is near a ton of food places and stores which was nice.
