This was our first time staying in a Novotel Hotel. We went to Koln to experience the 2013 Rosenmontag Event. The hotel is located in a great location (easy walk to the main center of Koln) and offers free parking which is a huge plus. The hotel's breakfast buffet was very good with a huge selection of items. The room we stayed in had a decent bed and […] sofabed pullout that our daughter slept on. The accommodations were a bit tight, but they worked for our one night stay. As a precaution, be prepared for very very tight shower accommodations with a high step up into the shower. We are young enough to step up into the shower, but older individuals may have difficulty. Lesa meira

Initially, I wasn't expecting much, I just booked a flight + hotel package (+transfer) that was affordable for me. Once I'd arrived, I was blown away! Not only by the views along the Rhine and the new developments along it's banks, but by the high standards held by the hotel and its staff. I've stayed in 5* hotels in the US and this quite easily meets […] the same standards, I instantly felt as if I'd made the right choice! My one gripe wasn't anything to do with the hotel, more of a language problem on my behalf, though the staffs English was very good, I'd recommend you brush up on your German in order just to arrange transfer times etc. I will definitely use again! We booked two rooms for family of 5 - the hotel only had 1 room in their reservation system but was great in getting this sorted for us very quickly at check in. Rooms are clean, quiet and nice, at unbeatable price. Children are staying free with parents and have free breakfast as well. Parking in underground park house at hotel was convenient and more […] so than suggested on web site; costs €14 per day extra. Walking distance to old town, city centre or cathedral is 30 minutes (with young children) or a bus takes you there faster from a stop right behind the hotel. Chocolate museum at Rhine only about 5-10 minutes walk. Very good value for family - will stay there again when in Cologne. Lesa meira

Our room had not been vacuumed. Sugar all over the floor and and dirty bathroom floor. The first night was sleepless - rubbish pillows and an intemittent, loud droning noise which we were later informed was the air conditioning. We complained, the staff apologised but when we returned the next evening it was still dirty - the carpet had still not been […] hoovered following the previous occupant and the bathroom floor had not been cleaned. The reception staff apologised again and moved us to another room. The pillows were better, the air conditioning did not make the wall vibrate loudly, the carpet was clean but ... the bathroom floor was dirty. We've stayed in a number of hotels in Koln - this was the only bad experience and we shan't return. Lesa meira

Our family of four stayed here just before Christmas in order to visit the many Christmas markets on offer in Cologne. The hotel is perfect for that. Within easy walking distance to four of the six markets and the Lindt Chocolate Museum. The hotel is comfortable and clean and a very good breakfast, although get down to the restaurant early on the weekends […] as it's very crowded. As other reviews have mentioned the beds are slightly hard. The sofa bed seemed better so we all had at least one comfy nights sleep on that. We also parked our car in the secure underground parking for three days for a total of 14euro, which we thought was good value. Overall the hotel was very nice and great for families with kids of all ages. We will definitely stay here again. Lesa meira

Staff were terribly rude and unhelpful. We had to queue for the lifts in the mornings. Rooms were very basic, more like 2 star than a 4 star quality.

We booked three rooms at the hotel. My partner and I along with our 6 month old had a lovely room on the non-smoking floor. No complaints about our room. Good size and comfortable. However, we had not thought to request non-smoking rooms for the rest of the family. So the other two rooms were very smoky which my non-smoking family werent too happy about. […] This didnt effect the comfort of the rooms. But just something to think about if you are booking a room as a non smoker. Overall, I would recommend this hotel for location and for comfort (lovely and clean). We stayed for three nights to visit the Christmas markets. It was a 5 minute walk to the fantastic river market at the Chocolate Museum where we went for dinner each evening. Fantastic place, absolutely perfect for our family (2 adults, 2 kids). Great breakfast, friendly and attentive reception staff and conscientious cleaners. Situated only a short walk from the lovely harbour christmas market (and the Chocolate Museum). We will come again!!

The room smelt of cigarette smoke badly. I had friends in other rooms and they experienced the same issues.

Very nice hotel with large rooms. Good and comfortable beds, and windows can be opened. It's not located in the centre of town but it's within a walking distance to the Dom. Very friendly and effecient staff.

It is a nice hotel to stay with family. The downsize is the hotel is not near to Metro or Underground station. It takes 12-15 minutes walk from nearest Metro or Underground. Take Bus 132 from Köln Hauptbahnhof (Dom hbf) to Hotel is more convenient.

My partner I stayed for 5 nights at this hotel and found the hotel very clean, comfortable and the staff very helpful. If you would like to eat in the hotel restaurant the food is excellent. The breakfast buffet was to die for so much choice and again the service very good. There are tea and coffee making facilities in the room and air free air conditioning. All […] staff behind reception speak English, but did find that the staff at breakfast spoke little English. There are also Smoking bedrooms which is unusual. The hotel is situated about a 20 minute walk from Cologne centre. We also found some cheaper places to eat and shop on Severinstrasse, which if you turn left out of the hotel and left again at the end of the hotel and follow this road which is about a 5 minute walk you will be pleasantly surprised. We usually stay in 5* hotels and so always have high expectations. In this case, the Novotel had no issues and we enjoyed our stay there. Staff were friendly, room was clean and restaurant was well kept and served nice food. Location wise it was out the way enough to be quiet, but only 15 minutes walk from most places.

We had a large standard room that was perfect for the 4 of us. 2 kids, 9 and 12. Breakfast was great, but expensive. Buy the breakfast when you make your reservation, much better deal. Great for families, near all the Cologne attractions.

clean and comfortable room and bath room.But the air conditioning was not working.Check in time was 3 pm which was not convenient since we reached the hotel at 11 am after a long overnight flight from Canada and 2 hours taxi ride from the airport.There was no help tp carry our bags.

Perfect for what we needed. A spacious family room just 10 (very cold) minutes walk from the town centre. There were hotels nearer into town, but this was opposite a newly developed area which is very close to the Chocolate and Olympic museums - both of which were good for kids. The hotel seems very geared up for kids at the weekend - there's a kids' […] area and an X box and computers. They were welcoming to the children and didn't seem to mind them dashing around a bit. This is a great hotel for families on a short stay in cologne. Not far from the shopping and the cathedral, took us about 15 minutes to walk. Good restaurants just around the corner. My husband and I along with a couple other friends stayed at this hotel during our German christmas holiday. We wanted to experience the German Christmas Markets and we were definitely impressed by how close to all three markets the Novotel was. Very nice hotel in an excellent location. Taxi from airport only 25euro and approx only 15 mins walk to to city centre. Room was a bit tight for 2 adults and 2 children but as this was a special offer it was well worth it. Excellent buffet breakfast.

Hotel was great, only a short walk from the centre and a couple of minutes from one of the Christmas markets (the reason for our trip!). Very friendly staff and everyone so helpful. We travelled with our 20 week old baby and they were really accomodating.

I chose this hotel as it is close to the christmas markets at the chocolate museum, old town and cathedral and stayed for 3 nights. The hotel was well maintained with friendly, efficient staff. The room was a decent size with a modern ensuite bathroom. Sound insulation was excellent even though the room was on the first floor overlooking the main road. […] There was a good selection at breakfast; hot with eggs, bacon, sausages, potatoes, etc and cold with a varied selection of breads, cold meats, cheeses,etc together with cereals, fruit juices etc. Selection of teas or coffee is also served. The hotel restaurant served excellent food although the choice / variety of food offered was limited. The hotel is very conveniently situated, near to the river and about 10 minutes walk to the old town and 20 minutes walk to the cathedral & railway station. This hotel is situation about 15mns walk from the old town square. It is not close to tram etc. so need to use Taxi for Messe etc. We walked into the town each evening because we wanted to so it was fine, but not if you didnt want to! The Novotel Hotel was was an excellent choice while we were in Cologne. It was about a 15 minute walk to the Cathedral, 5 minutes to the Chocolate Museum and about 15 minutes to the New Market. The rooms were very clean and well decorated. I stayed here for a night only and my time was great! The location was great and I could see many attractions. Beware it is not super close to the train station, it is located in a nice neighborhood but I did walk to it from the Central Station and it took me at least 30 minutes. It was on a gorgeous day, so I didn't mind the walk through the Rhein, […] but if you want to be next to the Cathedral, this is not the place. The room was great, fresh, and spacious. Woke up late for my check-out, meaning I left an hour later and they didn't charge me an extra night or said anything bad. I appreciated business with these guys.
