My Husband and myself really enjoyed our stay. We had access to a lot of things ad everything was in a reasonable distance. I recommend anyone stay here.

It wasn't far from all the main attractions that there is in Galveston and it was away from all the traffic. The hotels sits in fron of railroad tracks so the train is annoying especially if your trying to sleep.

we enjoyed it. we did have to change rooms because first room t.v. did not work. The shower was great had to shower heads and good pressure in first room. when moved to room next door, the shower there flooded the bathroom floor, drain stopped up. Our stay was very nice. The only "issue" would be on the day we were to checkout housekeeping knocked on our door at 9. The lady told us that "the front desk said we had to check out"! That was a little agravating because checkout is suppose to be noon! The rooms were very clean. Check in and out was quick!

Location is perfect from Galveston Port if anyone is looking for a inexpensive stay the day before a cruise. $15.00 cab ride to port

First off, the main reason we chose this hotel is because they include free parking for your vehicle when you stay there before leaving on a cruise! The cost to park directly at the dock of Galveston runs anywhere from $50-$70, so having that included with the cost of the room is a great deal. No one messed with our car while we were gone for a week, […] it was a great environment. There is a shuttle that runs from the hotel to the dock, a 5-10 minute drive for $10 per person + tips for baggage ($10 includes a free return trip). The front desk people were extremely kind, and the hotel had free Wi-Fi! The AC worked very well, and the beds were comfortable Serta beds. The iron and board were handy pre-cruise, and the fridge was nice to have as well. Free continental breakfast was nice. One Drawback! Bring earplugs! There is a nearby train that might bother you during the night, so be prepared and it is not a big deal. Travel smart and safe! Best of luck to everyone! Lesa meira

the stay there was not that bad the only thing I had a problem with was the training going by so often at night kept me awake until about midnight when the train finally stopped coming by. the best part was I was able to park my car there while on my cruz came everything was great

This place was one of the quick inexpensive spots to lay your head and be close to all the attractions ina safe environment. I went during weekdays and a weekend and i do not have any complaints. If you are looking towards extra fancy and expensive no i wouldnt recommend this place for you. But if you are looking towards a comforat place, good and fair […] customer service, quiet for sleep and away time from the busy city, close to attractions, not much of a crowd or crowed area then this is for you. I chose this hotel based mostly on the other Hotels.com reviews and the price. I was more interested in being on the island than in what amenities were offered since the plan was to spend most of our time out doing other things. I also like the convenience of the gas station immediately next door. I walked over there twice to get soda and snacks. Incidentally, the gas station attendant was extremely friendly, too. It doesn't look like the best neighborhood but we didn't run into any problems. There were very long black hairs all over the room. The tv reception was fuzzy. There were cigarette burns in the blankets and it was a non-smoking room. Trains blew their horns throughout the night. Got the third degree for asking for additional pillows (there were 6 in the room but there was also 5 of us) and they would only give us one. We were there for a very short stay. The room had a small fridge with a freezer. There is an active train that runs behind the hotel. We heard it go by twice in our 18 hr stay. The front desk person was very pleasant and helpful.

There're nothing overly special about the rooms. Clean. Convenient. I chose this one over the others because of the free wi-fi. The guy who checked us in was very nice, also. Fridge and tvs in the rooms.. good stay for the price.

The AC kept turning on and off every 5 minutes throughout the night, and was EXTREMELY loud, and the TV only got 13 channels. The hotel is located in a not so good area of Galveston. As much as I love trains, I do NOT love them going by my room about 5 times a night. The two train tracks are literally located right next to the hotel. I had read some of the reviews before I booked the room. The nearby railroad tracks seemed to bother some people so that was of concern to me since the two of us were in Galveston to rest and relax. Trains came by while we were in the room but they were no bother. Every employee I encountered at the property was friendly, courteous and business like. […] The room was clean when we arrived. The hotel look run down from the outside, but inside was clean. Ask for extra towels and was turn down. It is a motel and not a hotel. If you are looking to stay more than 1 or 2 nights, I would not recommend. You get what you pay for....

There is nothing special about the HoJo hotel, but it is great for those going on a cruise that leaves Galveston. The thing most attractive about it to me is that the hotel allows you to leave your vehicle parked in their parking lot the duration of your cruise at no additional cost. This can save you anywhere from $50-$70 on a 7 day cruise. Most people […] stay the night in or around Galveston the Saturday night before the cruise anyway. The HoJo is just a few miles from the Port of Galveston so the location is great. One other convenient aspect is that there is a cruise parking lot right across the street. I think it is called Discount Cruise Parking. They will pick you up at the hotel and take you to the port as well as pick you up at the port and take you back to the hotel at the end of your cruise. That's about all the good I can say about it. When we pulled up, the smell or urine was over powering. Every time we left the room, the cards had to be reset to open the door - very annoying. The sink didn't drain well, the faucet was loose and broken, the beds were hard as a rock, and the TV had lines and fuzz running through it. The 'continental breakfast' […] was a couple of muffins in a case, an empty cereal dispenser, a packet of oatmeal laying on the counter, and an apple/orange juice dispenser. When u look at the pictures before u reserves ur room it looks nice when u get to the motel u will see its not that great looking but not bad I have been n worse then u get n ur room the ac barly works the frig don't get cold remote don't work the bathroom has mold and to top it off when checking n the it took the guy 5 mins to come to the window afte […] driving 8 hours u don't want to stand there and then he says oh u have to pay for ur 3 kids ur reservation was for only 2 adults which we had to show him the paper thank god I printed it out and brought with then next day room key did not work and made 6 trips back down stairs to get it fix there is no breakfest like it says let's just say I will never stay here again Lesa meira

There was a train track right outside our window so we heard the train all night. Phone also did not work so we ended up using our minutes on our pay per minute phone so that made me upset. Some of the lights in the room did not work. Also the key card did not work when we came back from the beach so we had to have them fix the key card. Note was hanging […] up will be back in 5 minutes when this happened but they did get it fix right away. No explanation why the cards stopped working. The hotel room we chose was non-smoking, but smelled like smoke covered by air freshener fragrance. The hotel is not close to the sights of the island, about 15 minutes away. But if you need a cheap hotel for a night, it works.

We booked two rooms with double beds and did not get what we reserved in one of the rooms.The check-in time was at 3pm and we were not informed therefore we had to change into our swim suits in the main lobby. I do not feel that the cost of the room vs the time you have the room is an appropriate price.

My boyfriend and I booked 2 rooms for us and our 4 boys. We stayed 2 nights. Continental breakfast was from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. The first morning, at 9:00 a.m., my boyfriend and I went to get continental breakfast from the front office to take back to the room for the boys while they were getting dressed. We only took what was needed for us. […] On the way back to the room we saw the front desk manager. He saw us with the food and did not say anything to us about taking the food back to our rooms. The next morning, the boys were exhausted, so we let them sleep in. My boyfriend and I got up again to go get breakfast to take back to the room. It was about 8:00 a.m. The same front desk manager that saw us the previous morning with breakfast approached us in front of all the other guests and told us in a very rude, loud voice that we could not take the food back to our room, but that everyone must eat the food there. We told him that we did this on yesterday and that it wasn't a problem. He said, "Yes, yes I saw what you did on yesterday and that is not okay." My problem with the whole situation is that he could have approached us one on one when he saw us the first day. He didn't have to wait to get us in front of everyone and insult us. We didn't take all of the food the previous day-- we only took what we needed. That was so unneccessary. As a result, the name "Howard Johnson" makes my stomach turn. I won't be staying at any of their hotels again from this day forward.... Lesa meira

This is a great location near the Gulf Freeway. It is right next to a Valero truck stop where there are a lot of single men, some are questionable in apperance and therefore I would not recommend to Single Women or young students. The Free WiFi was very poor in signal and it took more than 10 minutes to connect and would only work 1 to 2 minutes at […] a time and therefore was very dissapointing that my kids could not use their iPads or iPods at all for their games. Very clean and convenient. Comfortable and other than having the railroad tracks at your immediate backyard, it was ok. Fairly clean, no bugs :) the beds felt like concrete though & the blankets were old & had burn holes in them, even though it was a non smoking room. The pillows were really flat as well. It was WAAAY over priced, but fine for the family.

The hotel wasn't so bad for sleeping. There was a train that whistles loudly right beside the hotel. I was very upset that the guy at the desk put us in a room directly under and beside a group of LOUD intoxicated people, knowing their situation because they were there the previous night.

Afternoon/evening staff when we checked in answered our questions differently than the daytime/morning staff the next day. While that may not be terribly unusual, the indifference they showed in listening to what the other people told us was disappointing.

Hotel was ok except the second night we returned to our room to find only 1 towel was left by maid that cleaned the room and when we went to manager he all but said that we stole the towels and the supervisor checks after they finish and makes sure that there are 3 towels and 3 wash rags, and his words ( that's all we supply ) each room . We were 2 […] adults and 3 children, so we had to use beach towels . Third day we arrived about 4:00 pm and they were just finished cleaning room, we were shorted 1 wash cloth and no supervisor ever came to check. Last time for me and my family at this place!!! The owner stalker me for 2 nights. He threw my loofa away and purposely gave me dirty towels. I knew they were dirty because they had black foot prints on them. He said I had to pay for another person, except It was only me. He wouldn't let me leave my room key unless i paid. I paid cash so he would not charge my card and he pocketed the money and would […] not give me a receipt. And besides all that, there is a train that passes at night, and it is extremely loud. The men that you have working there are not polite at all. I had five people and was only given 3 towels. When asked for more towels we were told that we had 8 people in our room and not given any more towels! We were constantly being WATCHED!!
