Wasn't good. Hot water wasn't working in bathroom and they changed room for us but second one was ...in the bath tub, paint was cracked up and has blue water stain, drain was broken...I couldn't get in there. I really think that price they have for that room is so wrong. I wouldn't stay at Gatsby Mansion Inn again. Everything was good but... We booked the hotel and had one bed insted of two. When we came to the hotel it cost additional $ 30 to make changes. In the same situattion in Victoria we had changes for free.

Very nice sleep and beautiful setting. Was awaken to some sounds at 1:30pm. I was the only person at the mansion that evening??. A very rewarding experience!

Thought this was a really lucky last minute booking...Literally called from the Ferry on the way over. Free parking, large room, charming place...perfect for that old world feel we wanted. We love to walk around when we travel so this was the perfect spot. Sweet girl at front desk told us the things to see within walking distance.. When we arrived I went to the main hotel to register, Then up to the room in the Gatsby. When I first entered our room I noticed that the floor was well worn and dirty (Not vacumed) - food particules on the carpet. There were cob-webs all over in our room and the windows were dirty. There was an old style tube tv in our room. The drinking glasses and […] coffee cups were clean. They had 1 ea. of reg and decaf complimentry coffee. (More was offered the second day.) The bed was clean. The bathroom was almost clean (Dirt in the corners) and the tile grouting could have used a good cleaning. They supplied towels and soap (1 small bar of soap). The first evening we had dinner down stairs - there was only one staff member on for the whole restaurant. She did a fantastic job serving us and the other guests. She was always there when needed offered drinks and wine, and topped up our drinks quickly. I think she gave us the best service of any restaurant we were at during our stay in Victoria. The food was great. My steak was done perfectly. The downstairs areas were clean and tidy. No drink or ice machines in the Gatsby. You have to go to the main Hotel 2nd floor to get anything. Overall I was unhappy with this visit. I stayed at the Gatsby in the past and was extremely pleased before. It has sure changed. Probably will not go back again. It was advertised that there would be complimentary bathrobes in the room, so we didn't bring any. There were none. (We phoned the desk and two were delivered.) It was advertised that ice is available on the 2nd and 3rd floors. No such thing. The armchair in the room was shabby to the point of being ripped. We were shocked upon returning to the room […] after breakfast on the second day to discover the glasses and cups were unchanged and unwashed. The bath towels, quite flimsy, had not been changed, though the cost for the second day is the same as that for the first day, when you do get fresh stuff. There was one lamp beside the bed, the other having been moved to a bureau, where it was needed. The room had a dark atmosphere to it, as a result. The paintwork on the outside stairs suggests a building being left to decline. The dining room, which we declined to use, is at best basic in decor. The staff, however, were helpful and friendly. I stayed at the Gatsby Mansion Inn for two nights. The Gatsby had dignified quietness in a busy city. My room was totally captivating. Original door, window, and ceiling mouldings, in room #1 were painted, but the room felt warm and welcoming. It was not clear where I was to check in. I went to The Gatsby only to be told to turn around and go to the Huntington for check in. What should have taken 5 mins. took about 15. When I arrived at the Gatsby, no one was there to greet me....it was like I was staying in a big empty house.....not welcoming at all. On the plus side the hotel is very convenient to US ferries and all attractions. The view from our room was excellent and the bed very comfy. However the property is in need of a make over.The carpets throughout the building were dirty with very noticeable stains on the light carpeting in our room. The curtains were coming off the rods. The Gatsby House […] is part of a complex of buildings that make up the establishment. There is no clear signage for check-in which is located in a different building across the garden and through another building. Breakfast is not included in the rate but available in the complex. However we tried to have breakfast at the Hunt Club located within the complex and waited 1 hour for our food and had to request coffee service and were told it was brewing this with only four tables to serve! Our food never arrived and we left. We went to a brunch service in one of the other buildings in the complex and I am glad to report had excellent service from that waitress(Hailey) who was working 10 tables alone. CAME TO VICTORIA FOR A FUNERAL, AND WAS SOOOOO DISSAPPOINTED IN YOUR HOTEL. THE CARPETS DIRTY,NO SHOWER,KNOB IN BATHDUP MISSING, VERY NOISY IN BACK ROOMS, MOST OF THE LAMBS DID NOT WORK.ORDERED A SALAD WITH TOAST, GOT HALF A SLICE OF TOAST COULD NOT EAT SALAD AS THE CUTLERY WAS MISSING. We were expecting to be in the Gatsby Mansion and were in The Judges House instead. The website is not clear about which rooms are in which building. The room was not very welcoming. It was freezing cold because the heat had not been turned on. It also smelled a little musty as if it hadn't been used for a while.

After all the mixed reviews, I was skeptical of what I would find. It was unfounded. It was like stepping back in time with the waste-coated walls, the trayed ceilings, the old wrought iron bed...totally romantic and just lovely, relaxing experience. old mansion with lots of character but room in Judge's house had very dirty carpet and very musty smell in hallway and room//also no elevator so had to carry luggage up the stairs to 2nd flr.not suitable for elder people. good location close to harbour.

Third story, with no elevator. No air conditioning. Not doable for a senior in 26'c weather. Switched over to the Huntingdon, still no AC and badly in need of updating but we managed. Gatsby needs to more accurately portray its facility. Very disappointed.

Our stay was on the top floor of the Gatsby Mansion. As we arrived we had one minor concern, which the management staff immediately addressed. The staff in the Gatsby mansion were mainly employees of the first floor restaurant, but were very accommodating to our needs for ice, wine glasses and morning newspaper. Great location right on the harbour - we could walk around downtown. But I expected the Gatsby House with the lovely veranda and entrance. We were housed in the Judges House, but my 16 year old dtg was put off by the use of a key to enter the house. Very quiet with no traffic in the small building. Room comfortable, but warm with no airconditioning […] and only one window that opened. Check-in was in a different hotel - confusing. Great location and the staff were responsive to our needs, but the Gatsby Mansion needs some maintenance. The windows were painted shut or would not stay open, the walls were cracked in places, and the door to the room was coming off its hinges.

There is a difference between the Gatsby Mansion (heritage building) and the Gatsby Mansion Inn (hotel). The photos we saw online were of the hotel, not the actual mansion so we were supprised at the room initially. Due to low occupancy in the mansion, they upgraded our room for free and we had an amazing view of the harbour from the deluxe suite on […] the top floor. I agree with some of the other comments that the place seems deserted. We came down for breakfast and there was not a single person around. We were informed the hotel and Mansion we stayed in would be undergoing a major renovation in the next year. it needs this as the building appears a little tired. Never the less the staff are great. The location is great and the comfort level was high. I would stay again especially when renovated.

The staff was incredibly rude, they said they had wireless internet but the signal is too weak and doesn't reach all the rooms. The room was smelly and the bed incredibly uncomfortable and lumpy. As the kitchen was not in service, much of the house was vacant. The time we did spend in the place we did not see anyone, staff of guests. I'm sure the place has potential once everything is in place. If we had known of this, we would have stayed somewhere else. We enjoyed our stay. The Restaurant at the Gatsby is very nice, and the staff did a lovely job. The only concern I had-was the fact that we could not find the switch to turn on the light in the hall outside our room. The hallway was very dark. But the room and the Hotel are very lovely.

A beautiful room in grand turn-of the century style. Service at the Inn was exceptional with the expection that we did not recieve housekeeping services even though we requested it specifically with the front desk. The room is beautifully and tastefully decorated. Guests should note that in in this room there was no shower (which should have been identifed […] prior to booking) only a tub. Internet was also very slow - understandable in a grand old building like that but if it were necessary for business then you'd be out of luck. Postage size room, you don't really want to stay in the room other then to sleep. The hotel described the room as having premium channels for the T.V. ,bathrobes, daily maid service, black out drapes. None of these services were provided. The color on the T.V. was green. We had a notice under the door saying do to short staff no maid service will be […] provided. The shower curtain was to long and was plugging the drain. No place to put the soap or shampoo. I stayed in the Gatsby Mansion in 2005 and really liked it, but things seem to have changed since then. The hotel is now bigger and although it says on its walls that it's a bed and breakfast - you might not get breakfast. I was disappointed when we arrived to find this hotel does not have AC as listed at the hotels.com site. This hotel (or our room) did not have a shower, rather it was a tube with a hand held shower. We statyed at the Gatsby one night and in the main Hotel on our return. Staff were super accommodating and service was superb. Off season rates were good and recieved a no cost upgrade on our return stay. The Gatsby is a classic. Main hotel suite was showing some signs of wear and some updating/minor repairs could go along way.

Beautiful property, conveniently located. The property had just changed hands so it's hard to tell what will be improved. The restaurant was closed for remodeling and there was no desk clerk. We didn't see another person, guest or staff, the entire weekend. So it was like having our own private mansion.

We go to Victoria for a holiday every year. We have looked at the Gatsby many times from the outside and on this trip decided to stay there. Luckily for us we only stayed one night. It is a beautiful location, and looks elegant on the outside, HOWEVER, the hallways are smelly, in poor condition, and our room was FILTHY. There were cobwebs throughout […] the room and in the bathroom, coffee split on the wall in the bathroom, and a dirty bathroom floor. There were dead bugs on the window sills, need I go on. Upon check out, we mentioned our concerns to the clerk at the desk, and got a very uninterested "oh, I'll pass it on". Loved the location. I booked figuring we would stay in "the mansion"...we did not, I wonder if anybody does? It says "bed and breakfast", is breakfast ever included? On season/off season?-they should say so somewhere. No signs anywhere saying where to go to check in, we arrived at 3:00 in the afternoon and after wandering around the yard trying to find […] where to go, on the door of the mansion we found a sign saying it was "closed for the day", leads me to believe it was never actually open. Wifi was lousy, never did work. Room was ok, comfortable. If you are looking for a bit of a step back in time, then it's a cool place to stay. Don't expect much, you won't be disappointed. Gatsby Manor is in a great location to visit the sights of Victoria. Everything is in walking distance. It's a quaint hotel. But unfortunately it could stand a bit of attention when it comes to overall maintenance of the building. This is a comfortable hotel with the friendliness of a nice bed and breakfast. Everything was clean. Charming decorations and very "Victorian". If you can't climb stairs, I wouldn't recommend it as all the rooms are on the 2nd and 3rd story and I did not notice an elevator (I could be wrong). The hotel is right across the street from the Clipper ferry […] docks! FYI: If you go in the winter, Victoria pretty much shuts down around 5 so don't take a nap in that afternoon.
