Holly House by the Canal – Bourne

Finding this place wasn`t easy. The location was nice. Quiet suburb. Nice property but we wondered if we had arrived at the right place. No indication that this was a B&B. We then found it difficult to get any response to our knocking on the various doors and finally caught the owner`s attention by knocking on the window. The room was acceptable but […] cluttered. We were dismayed to find this was not ensuite although we had exclusive use of the house bathroom on the landing. Dressing gowns were provided. Breakfast was taken with the owner (whether you liked it or not) and it was disappointing. Best advice given over breakfast was to visit the nearby "The Lobster Trap" where good food can be had at very reasonable cost. This place may be ideal for many but it was far from our ideal B&B. This is a great place to stay. It is a house - full of character - which is located in idyllic surroundings. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by Tom and Rita - the congenial hosts. They are wonderful people and immediately create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. This is a real taste of America at its best - embodying all of the politeness and […] friendliness that you could wish for. It did not feel like arriving at a guest house - it felt like arriving at the home of old friends. And, in fact, by the time our stay was over - it did, indeed, feel like leaving old friends. In addition, the location provides an excellent base for exploring Cape Cod. The guest house is easy to find - giving an ideal opportunity to settle and familiarise oneself with the surroundings, before setting out to explore the delights of Cape Cod. However, wherever you visit, it is equally a delight to return to Tom and Rita's warm welcome. Breakfast is spent in their company and Rita home bakes many of the offerings on the very morning that they are served. In short, great place and great people. My advice - don't be afraid to indulge in conversation as, between them, I doubt that there are many subjects that one of them would not be able to cover. And - even if they don't know - they both personify that wonderful American trait of being genuinely interested in learning new things. Wholly recommended. Lesa meira

Historic adorned bed & breakfast(room reached by circular staircase). Room very spacious and clean-with private terrace and adjoining huge bathroom. Breakfast was SCONES(HOMEMADE & DIFFERENT FLAVORS EACH MORNING), bread & english muffins, fruit, cold cereal & juices(jams butter & cream cheese also on table). Convenient, quiet, home-like atmosphere. Felt like a welcome guest at a friend's home. Very convenient to Woods Hole/MV Ferry and "the bridge"

Rita and Tom were wonderful hosts, nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel very welcome at their B & B. The room was a good size, bed was very comfortable, shower was hot and breakfast was delicious.

The owner accidently had the dates confused so the room wasn't ready. he had it all set with in 30 minutes. I understand the Cape is not the place to be in the fall/winter but I felt he wasn't especially helpful with ideas of what to do. He gave us some books an wre read through them to get ideas. The bed was huge and comfortable. I wish there was other […] seatimg in the rom other then the one chair and bed. Food in the mornins was ok. cereal and scones. I had an enjoyable time. I was relaxed and left relaxed -which is was I wanted. It was close by to all the attractions. Lesa meira

The stay at this B&B was mixed The hosts are warm and welcoming; however, the condition of the place is not up-to-snuff. Our room needed a good cleaning--the bathroom is small and does not even have a hook for a face towel; there is only one mirror (and that is in the bathroom), the deck off the rom had no furniture and was full of leaves and pine needles, […] there were cobwebs in the window sill, and the closet was full of videos randomly thrown on the shelves and linens on the floor. The breakfast was minimal and the leftovers were served the next day. I wouldn't stay here again--there are just too many B&Bs in the area that would be more pleasant to stay in. Lesa meira

Tom and Rita are wonderful host's , their Bed and Breakfast has such charm , rooms are very comfortable and the beds are super large . lots of New England charm and hospitality .Rita's scones at breakfast were so good I got her to give me the recipe's . would recommend to anyone who wants a little charm and less rat race in a holiday .

Rita and Tom apart from making us feel at home ,were very helpful.The house is lovely, in a good location right next to the Cape Cod Canal. Great walks. We spent a week on the Cape, three nights at Holly House. A good, quiet location for surrounding area and Martha`s Vinyard, A great place to stay.

The Holly House is a lovely Victorian Home situated in a very quiet neighborhood. Our hosts were so pleasant and friendly. We really enjoyed sitting around the dining room table with them and other guests at the simple but enjoyable breakfast.
