Every time you enter the hotel there is that bad smell: the accensor is so tired: and than, despite a new bathroom, and relatively new furniture , the feeling in this room and hotel was bad. The only good thing there was the service at the reception

I arrived one day late because a weather delay of the flight. The receptionist informed me serenely that my 4 nights reservation (already paid) was cancelled, because I did not call. It took some protests and a very long phonecall to figure how to put me back "in the system" for the remaining 3 nights. Retrospectively, this looks even more weird, because […] the hotel had very few visitors, indeed. There is a pervasive tobacco smoke throughout the hotel corridors and lobby. The hotel was renovated some time ago, but that seems long ago already. The room has a phone you can call the reception only, although in the room it is listed the cost of a local call. I had to go to the reception to have a restaurant reservation made. The reception did no have any socket adaptor for non french plugs. the bathroom, although otherwise ok, does not have toiletries, but two squeezable bottles, wall-attached, that should be used as soap, shampoo etc. At the end I asked a taxi reservation and a wake-up call, that were done punctually. Front desk staff were very helpful and the majority of the personnel were focused on making our vacation a memorable one. The true shining stars are the front desk staff. They speak english and were exceptional with bus schedules, researching businesses and their phone numbers as well as making the calls for us. They were extremely pleasant with all […] our inquiries and interactions. I would stay at the hotel again mainly because of them. The hotel itself did smell of mold upon entry to the lobby. Rooms were small, clean and will only serve as a sleeping quarter, not a place you want to spend any great deal of time. Location was about a seven minute walk to main square of town and about 4 minutes to the promenade. Decent location. Overall I would say it definetly is in with the Quality Inn level and standard. This hotel is in a great location, staff are really friendly and rooms are a fair size. Air conditioning wasn't working so room was a little stuffy when verandah doors were closed. Very good facilities for the price. Highly recommended.

Easy to get to from the train station, friendly, helpful staff who give you a map and good ideas about what to see and do, free wi-fi , a nice, clean, big room with a comfortable bed and 2 pillows each, a good shower, reading lights, a frig, a jug and some coffee and nice, big mugs. And then it’s in a great location within easy walking distance of all […] of the interesting sights. And it feels safe and secure and is a very reasonable price. What more could you want!!!! only 5 minute walk to Promenade des Anglais and 15 minutes to market and old town. Plenty of local shops for breakfast snacks. Room was clean and functional with coffee making facilities. Service was good and always friendly and helpful

Not quite a suite, more a room with adjoining bathroom. No tea or coffee facilities supplied but when asked, a kettle was provided. Apparently there will be "kichen facilities" supplied later in the year but at present this was a locked cupboard. Nice friendly lady on reception who was very helpful. Most things about this hotel were OK - some of the staff were very helpful, we had two difficult incidents that they handled well:-1) Our room was very cold when we arrived in record low February Nice conditions, and they moved us, albeit to a smaller but much warmer room, quickly, and next 2) our inner door got jammed which the desk man broke open […] fast with a chisel ( didn't get fixed all week....) Rooms just adequate, after the first night, none of our "consumables" were replaced, so I wrote a polite note to the maid asking for this - I received a TYPED LETTER from the "Chef de service" telling me that the water, teas, coffees, milk sachets and sugars were a "welcoming gift!" shampoo did turn up occasionally when the maid felt generous..... As the French say, cutting the candle end in two, or as we say - how mean can you possibly get?!! I told them so, and was given a lecture on 3 star service, offered replenishments at 1 euro per ITEM and told that I wouldn't get better in France.Well, I always have done and will in future - by staying elsewhere. The hotel staff are very helpful and pleasant and it is very good value for money. The hotel is tidy clean and the furnishings are good. The location is good, a few minutes walk from the Promenade des Anglais (+beach) and under 10 minutes to Nice Etoile (indoor shopping) and the Place Massena and restaurant area. Our room (24) was a touch small without […] a bath but our friends room was bigger (+bath) and other rooms we passed also seemed larger. The maids didn't replenish the tea, coffee and milk after the first day but reception was more than happy to get you some. Lesa meira

The positives: Perfectly fine, clean and comfortable hotel. The position on Boulevard Victor Hugo is within walking distance to Place Massena, the railway station and the beach front. Pretty quiet, especially with a room on the side-street. Free wifi (ask for code at desk at check-in). The negatives: The room was on the small side and a little tired. […] Our bedside lamp fitting was smashed and TV signal was glitchy for example. Tea and coffee is apparently complimentary only for the first night (that's what we were told at the desk when we asked for more - pretty stingy given the price.) The hotel had everything I was looking for - a central location, safe in the room, fridge in the room, Wifi access (free), TV (with BBC1 and BBC News) and a balcony. It was a fairly average size and wasn't anything too spectacular - fairly basic - but was absolutely fine for our trip. It's a few blocks back from the sea and a few more blocks South […] of the train station. Also about a km west of the main shopping street, so walking distance to most of the areas you'll want to visit. The balcony we had overlooked Bvd. Victor Hugo which is a busy, but tree-lined street lined with several restaurants. The reception staff were especially friendly and had excellent English while being patient with my "dodgy" French! We had a great stay at the hotel. The hotel is very conveniently located - only 10min walk from the Nice Ville train station. The room was very clean and perfect for what we needed. There is a fantastic Sicilian restaurant located right below the hotel - Villa Corleone.

Lovely hotel and brilliant service by all staff especially Manuella. We had a late flight after checking out and she couldn't do enough for us - holding our luggage securely for the day and offering the use of facilities to change in. Definitely will be going back.

Great hotel, well worth the money. Amazing location, really helpful staff and a comfortable room with a sizable bathroom. I would definitely stay at the La Malmaison Hotel again if visiting Nice.

Lovely small hotel. Very convenient to flower market and Old Nice. Staff was extremely helpful. Room was nicely done in modern design. Looked like small "boutique" hotels in New York City. We were very satisfied with our stay there. Also had a room with a nice little balcony.

Although the hotel is basic, it is clean and in a good location. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and that is what counts. Our room was large and comfortable but somewhat spartan in appearance. Not that it really mattered as we were out and about most of the time. hotel had all the necessities but flaws included a stairway leading up to lobby (so lug your cases upstairs just to check in), registration closes for lunch on weekends, and dimly lit hotel room. you can probably do better elsewhere.

My sister and I stayed at this hotel for three nights in July. The hotel staff were very helpful and the location was ideal: only a 5 minute walk from either the train station or the beach. Rooms were quiet and clean. Did not try the breakfast, opting for better value at a small café along the Promenade des anglais (about 5 Euros each for croissant […] and a café au lait). Best of all, our room had a small balcony overlooking the town. The perfect place for enjoying a glass of champagne before heading out to dinner! Lesa meira

Loved the hotel location and it was a fabulous breakfast. We were on the top floor with a balcony and a wonderful view. Given the heat, it was lovely to sit on the balcony during the evening hours enjoying a glass of wine and the view. One thing that wasn't great was the fact that the power, including air conditioning, only worked when we inserted […] our key card. Returning after a long day sightseeing to a hot room was less than pleasant and it did mean that we couldn't go to bed right away since we needed to wait for the room to cool down. However, despite that we still loved the room and found the staff extremely pleasant and helpful. I was very pleased with my stay at La Malmaison. I stayed here in July 2007 and again in July 2010. I was not disappointed. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful; I felt like they were friends. I liked this hotel as the area is very safe and I was not afraid to go out at night by myself. The rooms were very clean. I started my holiday by myself […] in a Comfort Room and then my daughter joined me and we moved to a Privilege Room. The Privilege Room is definitely worth the extra money. The Front desk staffs are very friendly and helpful, the hotel is located in a quiet and nice neighbourhood, 10 minutes walk to the train station/5 minutes to the beach and shopping area. The staff was great, and provided friendly service whenever asked. They even had a computer available for guest usage, and wi-fi, which are not typically found in French hotels, particularly in this price range. On one occasion when the computer was occupied and I needed to use it to check on our departing flight, the staff allowed me to use their computer […] at the check-in desk. The breakfast was okay, but not great. The bread was good but did not taste fresh like the bread you find in the nearby patisseries for breakfast. We had breakfast at the hotel twice for the convenience and the all-you-can-drink coffee, as that can't be found anywhere else. The TV remote didn't work and they took care of it pretty quickly. It still didn't work all the time but it was better. We have experienced this same problem at every other hotel in France where we have stayed. TV in hotel rooms just does not seem to be high on the priority list in France the way it is in the US. The TV's are small, and do not have features such as pay-per-view movies, games, or hotel check-out. The only thing we didn't really like about the hotel was the bed. It was way too hard even for someone who likes a firm mattress. Overall, it was a fine place to stay, and at a very good price. We had stayed at another place just down the street on our last stay, and had planned to stay there again, but the price was better at Malmaison, and it turned out to be a good deal. Lesa meira

When I first read reviews about this hotel they said it was just a 3 star hotel. I completely disagree...it was an excellent hotel and great value for money. Beds comfortable, very decent rooms for European standards and large bathroom. They also really looked after us well when we had to spend an extra night there due to our holiday being disrupted […] as a result of the volcanic ash. I would definately stay there again. Word of advice...we made the silly mistake of taking a taxi from the train station to the hotel as we had two large bags, This cost us €15 and is a 15 minute walk!!! Lesa meira

Hotellet ligger perfekt til med korte avstander til både offentlig kommunikasjon (tog og buss), shopping, gamle byen og restauranter. Gute Lage, aktuell laufende Renovierungen, auch früh morgens. Der Eingangsbereich riecht sehr unangenehm nach Abwasser (!!), Service ist bemüht, aber wenig kompetent. Handtücher fehlten, mussten nachgeordert werden. Kenne bessere Hotels in Nizza in der gleichen Preiskategorie.

Vi fikk et veldig stort rom med utsikt i 2 retninger! Deilig at alle håndklær ble skiftet hver dag, og at rommet var så godt lydisolert. Bra renhold og god service ellers.

Very comfortable hotel in a good location. Everything is at a short distance, if you prefer walking. Our room was a bit worn out, but still very nice. The high ceiling and double little french balconies made the room very spacious, sunny and inviting. Our carpet in the room had a few stains on it, but overall it was clean. There was no safe in the […] room, but luckily we had friends in another room, so we didn't mind that. There were enough towels, soaps, coffee and everything. If you travel with children, make sure that your minifridge is cold enough. Small chidlren didn't pay extra at all, and our boy really enjoyed his stay also. Esse hotel foi uma surpresa positiva, pois não pagamos um absurdo e o quarto era relativamente bom e tinha uma micro cozinha que nos permitiu fazer alguns lanches e cafés sem pagar 5Euros a coca-cola... que é um absurdo! É uma forma de enganar o cliente no preço do menu. Fique atento com esse problema em Nice e arredores! Não achei isso honesto na cidade!
