All very clean, the breakfast varied and good and the staff very helpful day and night. The location was the compromise I aimed for, between the location of my meetings and the city centre, with more or less half-an-hour's walk either way.

You could easily walk to the Spanish steps (25 minutes), colleseum (10 minutes) and other sights. The lady in the breakfast room is outstanding. The double rooms are very small but that is to be expected in the center of Rome. If you are lucky and get a 3 bed room for 2 people, then it is very spacious. Francesco will bend over backwards to make your stay a good one and so will the rest of the staff. Breakfast iis very good and plenty of it and the lady that serves is a angel on earth. Restaurants and cafes are very expensive in the neighborhood but either a 8 euro taxi ride or the metro to a neighborhood called Trastivera will get you to where the Romans eat, drink and play. The food is excellent and you can easilly get a meal for two with a bottle of wine for about 21 euros Ristorante Ivo is great, get there early as there is a line to get in but well worhj it. There is a large cheap supermasrket in the square in the basement on the way to Termini. The smaller markets are 3-4 times more expensive for water and other stuff is also much cheaper then at the various mini markets.. All in all we were very pleased with the Hotel Amalfi and will stay there again.

Regardless, the hotel receptionist went out of his way to accommodate us and had a room prepared for us as a priority and even had us upgraded to a superior accommodation to the one we had paid for. Excellent service.

Take the express train from the airport to Roma Termini and the hotel is a mere 3-4 min walk to the top of via Cavour. Most main sites 20 min walk from there.

poor sound proofing. Window has poor sound proof with noise of passing traffic even when window was shut closed. You could also hear conversations from another room. Incomplete toilet wares. Didn't have shampoo and conditioner. Only left with one body gel between 2 people to be used for shower and shampoo purpose on second day. TV channel setting […] was not user friendly. This hotel was located in a perfect spot, and we were greated with really nice friendly staff. Room was nice and comfortable, however quite small (and no coffee making facilities in the room!). Although this was a 4 star hotel, it lacked a lot of what you would expect of such a rating, only a breakfast room that shut at 10:30, no coffee outside that […] time or restaurant. Also the hotel looked a little rough round the edges but only if you looked closely. Saying all that, room was clean, bed was comfortable, a stones throw away from the Colleseum and the metro. I travel frequently in Europe and particularly in Italy, so I know what to expect when it comes to a European hotel at the Saint. Johns price point. That being said the Saint. John underwhelmed in every possible way. The upkeep of the hotel is horrible and ownership should absolutely be ashamed. The carpet throughout the building including the guest […] rooms is stained, tattered, and pungent with a foul odor from years of neglect. The walls are in desperate need of paint and repair. The amenities along with everything else you touch in the place are cheep and poorly designed. The service team is clearly jaded, by years of handling the same complaints time and time again, and wholly disinterested in anything other than collecting a paycheck and leaving the building as quickly as possible. I actually had to request 7 bath towels to lay down on the floor of my room so that i could walk through it without turning my socks and or the bottom my feet black from filth. "Good hotel but do not think it as four stars"
The hotel is good based on Europe standards. The room is small like lots of others. The free wifi is big plus for us. Breakfast is pretty good although a kind of tired of it after staying more than three days. The location is good-not in the heart of the city but a short walk. "Good Value for money"
Great value for Money in a good location. 10 minute walk away from the coliseum and also some good restaurants near by. The rooms are smaller than what we are used to, but they were clean. The size of the room did not bother us though as we were on holiday to see Rome and not the inside of a bedroom. Great to have free wi-fi available throughout the […] hotel and the breakfast was a good standard compared to other continental hotels. The hotel/ reception staff were very helpful and did things immediately for you. Breakfast staff were a little more lazy but hey it was self service so we didn't need much attending to. Hotel is in a quiet location and at the same time not very far from the metro, and bus stops. I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family. The hotel is located in a very convenient location, 10 min walk to Colloseum and Termini. Well connected to Metro (Red Line) Menzoni station. Rooms are small but ok. Hotel is neat and clean, but the room carpet felt dirty on feet. One of the mattress was sagging which was reported to the front desk but no action was taken. Rooms were the smallest we have ever stayed in. We could barely fit two suitcases, one had to be opened in the bathroom. Rooms were clean which is a bonus. "Not quite a four star"
This is just a four star hotel some parts of the service came very close to a three star. The location is quite good, but there is not much immediately round the hotel by way of bars or restaurants. Breakfast is good, excellent selection of food and plenty of it, although some of the dishes were a little strange - cold peas for breakfast anyone???? […] The rooms have been fairly recently decorated, but ours will still rather grubby round the edges and - everything in the bathroom leaked -the shower, the washhand basin, so things were usually a bit damp underfoot. Drinks in the bar were very expensive - two small bottled beers were Euro 12. The airconditioning in our room simply refused to function and although we reported this twice nothing improved, and ironically it wasnt that hot outside, but the room was stiffling - inexplicable! "Service could be improved but FANTASTIC location"
The hotel was clean, well kept and the staff were friendly. However, the room was a bit small and there wasn't much space to move around the bed. Also we had a defective A/C in our room which overnight would drop in temperature making it very cold. We also had a defective TV which would lose its picture after a while and required a tap to get it on […] again. However, despite the above, we didn't spend much time in the room so it didn't matter too much to us about these things. The best thing about the hotel was its location - just 10 MINUTES WALK TO THE COLOSSEUM! So location location location was the key with this. I have stayed in a lot of high class hotels worldwide and I would not class this hotel as a 4 star, would say its closer to a 3 star. The breakfast was OK but there was not much variety available also toiletries in the bathroom were not replenished when we ran out. The hotel was quite expensive for the size of the room. However, Rome itself is expensive and this particular weekend was quite crowded. The room was very small, but very clean and well furnished. The bathroom was also very clean and nicely done. This location is great for those who either want to take cabs or like to walk. The staff at the front desk were not very helpful - they always seemed to busy or annoyed to answer any questions you might have. They didnt make you feel welcomed in the hotel, especially that this was the first time I was in Rome. The Staff in the dinning area were friendly and courteous and made you feel welcomed. ""4 star" features, but 3 star stay"
We stayed here for 5 nights, as our last leg of our 1 yr anniversary trip to Italy. It was a comfortable stay in a quiet but small (expected in the city) the bed was nice, the shower had mold and the carpet turned my socks brown everyday. I wish breakfast was included. It seemed like a nice breakfast but was expensive p/p. It was a 10-15 min walk to […] the colleseum, but the walk is along a nasty street where homeless ppl sleep and it stinks. The metro was nice and very conveniently located, along with the Termini station. The only great service we received was from Maria, ( or Mirna, I can't remember what her name tag said ) but she was very helpful, she one day booked a tour for us and on the last day when we were leaving for flight home she helped us SOOO MUCH! Everyone who worked here failed to let us know that the Metro ( our plan to get to the airport ) was planning on a typical STRIKE! So, benounce to us we didn't book another means of transportation and this whole situation could of been diverted if we were notified of the possible STRIKE. Maria called several ppl for us trying to get a taxi or anything! She was finally able to get us a taxi and when it arrived she even went outside and talked him into taking us to the airport and only for a certain rate. We really enjoyed this hotel. Don't let the initial drive up to the door fool you.... We were a little sketchy at first, but once you enter the lobby, you realize there is nothing to be worried about. The location is about 15 minutes walking to the Colloseum. Staff was very friendly. The hotel in general was excellent there were a few minor problems. Bad points The hair dryer in the room was broken, this was replaced with a portable one within 30mins of making a phone call to reception. The only major problem was the safe within the room, it was not functioning i made a call to reception and within 30mins someone came up to to […] the room after inspection he agreed it was broken and i was promised maintenance would be up to fix it, the following morning no one came to fix the safe during the duration of my 4 night stay which disappointed me. The extract fan in the bathroom was not working. The hotel was in overall OK. The staff was helpful and knowledgeable of the area we were close to the Colosseum, but my complain was no Air Condition !!!! at all. Even though the nights were cool not cold I had a bad time sleep with the open window and the noise outside my window and no A/C. During the day is was hot in the room. They said A/C had problem. After being quoted insane rates at other hotels, we read a few reviews and took a chance...it was well worth it. The rooms are tiny but the location, the staff, and the vibe was perfect for exploring Rome. Mirta, the front desk manager, was absolutely fantastic, even getting us a prime table at rooftop restaurant facing the Coliseum...on Holy Thursday! The […] room would get tiny after more than 3-4 days but for a short stint, the Saint Johns is perfect, walking distance from the Colisseum, the Forum, the Metro and a zillion great cafes, churches. As far as location, this hotel was great. right near the metro and within reasonable walking distance to major sites. Hotel staff was very nice and accommodating. Most front desk staff are terrific, but one was not very helpful. Room was generally warm. Could use an extra chair. Bathroom sink drained too slowly. Hotel promptly fixed it, but the problem reappeared in a day. Water in the cups not emptied daily and cups never washed during stay! We visited other cities, while still keeping the room.
