The manager Aldo was very nice and helpful. The staff was always smiling and cheerful. This is the second time that I stayed there.

this was a good hotel for our last night in Rome. We attended Easter Mass at th Vatican, so we wanted something close. Some rooms are roomy while others are quite cramped. However, all did the job!

OUR STAY WAS BETTER THEN EXPECTED AFTER READING REVIEWS I EXPECTED LESS OF OUR HOTEL BUT I WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED THE APARTMENT WAS A LARGE 3 BEDROOM WITH A FULL KITCHEN AND FULLY EQUIPPED WITH EVERYTHING THERE WAS ALSO A TRUNDLE BED IN THE KITCHEN LIVING AREA WHICH WAS COMBINED BUT THAT WAS OK FOR A LITTLE TV WATCHING. IT WAS KEPT VERY CLEAN , AND […] THE LOCATION WAS PERFECT ACCESS TO EVERYTHING IN ROME WE WANTED TO SEE INCLUDING BUS, SUB WAY CONNECTIONS. AND GROCERY STORES WHIC WE UTILIZED , I DO WISH IT WOULD HAVE HAD AN ICE MACHINE , AND LAUNDRY FACILITIES FOR OUR USE SINCE WE WERE THERE 2 WEEKS, AND MOST OF THE STAFF WAS NOT VERY FRIENDLY THOSE THAT WERE MADE UP FOR IT ONE FRONT DESK STAFF AND 2 CLEANING LADIES :) ALSO TAKE YOUR OWN COFFEE/ CREAMER AND FILTERS BECAUSE THESE ARE NOT SUPPLIED AND YOU WONT FIND A NORMAL CUP OF COFFEE ANY WHERE.WORK OUT YOUR TRANSPORT TO THE AIRPORT BEFORE YOU GO AND ALSO YOUR RETURN TRIP BECAUSE I SEEN OTHERS HAVE DIFFICULTY WITH THIS, I GIVE THE MOTEL A 4.5 AND WOULD GO THERE AGAIN... We stayed one night and were pleased with closeness to Vatican; the room was warm; close to shopping and restaurants. I left my earrings on a table by the bed and they were found and are being returned to me.

Hotel seems split in two blocks, the one with the reception area etc has smaller more modern rooms some with balcony and are very nicely done but are compact the family room we could have had, had small bedrooms. While the one we picked in the older block had three bedrooms and could sleep eight or more. It was older and a couple of the rooms need some […] decorating soon, but it was very clean and spacious, nice kitchen area and space to be away from other if need be sometimes very handy on a family holiday, better than living on top of each other for us anyway. The only other thing is that the shower in the newer units would be larger and again more modern Hotel is very central and we would be happy to recommend the hotel. The staff we encountered were helpful and friendly although the older block is entered from the street thro a locked main door. If going back to Rome we would certainly look at staying here again. If the decor was done in the room we had it would have gotten 5 star especially for the price and location Lesa meira

Good clean room, efficient staff. Fit our needs. Beds were hard and quarters were tight(room had two bunkbeds in it) but we didn't spend alot of time in the room any way. Highly recommend to those on a budget, our room could of slept 6 but there was only 2 of us.

More like a motel/hostel.. If your waist line is more than 36 then this place is not for you. If you are traveling with your spouse then you would be better off with other options. Limited walking space. Basically you wouldn't have ample space if you have more than 1 luggage. No carpet so you would be walking on their floor which feels like pvc cover. […] Location wise is brilliant which is within walking distance to Vatican City. We were given room 442 which I reckon is the smallest room in the hotel. But room was very clean, kitchenette well set up & all the gadgets, utensils as well as the bathroom were squeaky clean. Although there are two double beds (bunk bed formation) & can sleep 4, I would say the room is remarkably small & is good for a lightly built couple like us. […] But the hotel is good value for money considering its location, hygiene levels & courteous staff ( Aldo at the reception is very friendly & always ready to help). Stayed at Residence Candia from sept 16th 2012 thru sept 22nd 2012. It was a nice stay, Our room was clean and comfortable and the hotels location is a 5 minute walk to vatican city and is very close to the cipro metro location on the orange line of the metro so it is easy to move about room and see the sites. There is no free breakfast but you are […] provided a small kitchen in your room with a stove and all the kitchen utensils needed to make meals. My only complaint would be that the walls were thin and at times it could get a little noisy but nothing too serious. I would stay here again if visiting rome. Lesa meira

Enjoyed our stay, but I'm glad we were out of the room more than in it. Our room was more of an apartment than a hotel room with a kitchen and small table for eating, but the hall through the apartment was so narrow that passing another person was difficult. The staff was very helpful with directions to laundry facilities, markets and tourist sites […] and we really appreciated it. This hotel has a locked room to hold guests baggage for those hours between room checkout and your train/plane departure, so we got in an afternoon of sightseeing without lugging baggage. As an american used to big hotel rooms we were actually shocked at how small the apartment was. The bathroom was super small, kitchen was just a 3 foot wide counter and the bedroom was just a little bigger than the bed itself. Having a kitchen was probably the best part of the room since we bought snacks and beverages for our stay. The tv only had one english channel, cnn. It was great being so close to the vatican, the metro and La Rustichello and gelati mellinium! Overall, i would recommend this hotel to friends and family as a great amd convenient place to stay, but as an american you will be shocked at first at the size but thats typical of italy hotels. The rooms are very small even by European standards, but as long as you are just sleeping there, that isn't a problem. If you are looking for a place to lounge around the hotel, look somewhere else. Very close to the Cipro subway station.

The staff, particularly (Helena??) were very helpful. She went above and beyond to help me with a cell phone that I lost in Germany, all the while assisting other customers-very efficient and on top of it! The accommodations were roomy. Residence Candia was very covenient with access gto buses into the city centre almost at the front door. It is also within reasonable walking distance to the Vatican and the Cipro Metro Station. The apartment was very small but we expected that. It weas very well laid out and had all the items needed for self catering. The staff were very helpful and […] pleasant,, speaking good English. The room and ancillary areas were clean and tidy and our room was erviced while we were out. The hotel also let us leave our heavy baggage after check out until the evening free of charge. Was very pleased with my stay. The room was immaculately clean and the location is perfect and a great bargain for the price. Would definitely stay there again. Even though we had the smallest size room type, the bed was king and had single bunkbed on top. Lots of "closet", shelves space. The day time lady was little frazzled but very nice and let us […] check in at 11:30a, since our room was ready. The young lady that took us to our room was a sweetheart. The night guys are little stand offish, could smile some. If you're very big or overweight, beware that the bathroom has a very small shower. Dont' know is showers in the bigger rooms are bigger. There is $2 euro per person per day tax charge and they take only cash for this. The notice is also posted as you enter. Maps and info are given to you at front desk along with wifi code(free). The room was entirely too small; we could have dealt with that, but we were located immediately above the parking lot, and experienced noise all night involving late night party goers, arrivals, and departures. I booked a penthouse for four (with three beds) and we were given two room causing one of us to use the sofa beds. It was a major inconvenience. The bathroom in one of the apartment was super small - even in European standards! We did not have hot water for some time because of the water heater issues and we had to remind the front desk more than twice. […] We needed some assistance from the room service one evening and there was no one available, the receptionist at the front desk flatly refused to attend it saying he cannot leave the front desk and there is no one else was available. The Wifi is very very slow (we were on the 5th floor). Most of the electric appliances (TC, microwave etc) are kept disconnected. You have to plug them in. You may have to request an extension cord to plug them in too. The rooms are kept clean. AC was working fine. There was enough space in the living room. Lesa meira

Overall, it was great to stay there. Just only thing you might need to remember is that it's close to vatican but not to city center. You need to take a metro or bus. And inside the room, it's very convenient. Regardless of small size room, it has everything. Very convenient. But if you want to cook, u need to buy oil, salt, pepper, dish washing liquid […] etc..so be prepare and enjoy. It was better than normal hotel for me. Lesa meira

Our family of 5 enjoyed our stay at Residence Candia. The elevator was too small for our double stroller, so we had to unload the kids and break it down every time we returned. Location is fantastic for Vatican museums, metro and places to eat. Staff very friendly and always willing to help. Hotel itself could do with refurbishment and modernising. Two of the bedrooms in the apartment had no windows. Air conditioning was in main room, with fans in bedroom. Could have done with air on throughout as is very hot in July and August. Towels […] replaced every other day, would have been better everyday, especially with kids. TV small and only CNN being the only English speaking channel. Overall good, but could be better! Not much. The hotel is adequate at best. The price was quoted incorrectly and we were charged an extra $116 euros when we checked in.The front lobby is very unappealing and our stay began with a poor impression. The location is good, but the hotel needs work.

The Residence Candia was a wonderful way to start our vacation in Rome. We rented a car, traveled through rush hour, and found a parking place at the hotel (no charge)! The front desk staff was extremely helpful and all spoke English. We walked to the Vatican and even listened to the Pope on his Wednesday greeting. St. Peter's Basilica is incredible […] and our balcony at the hotel faced St. Peter's (we have photos)! The hotel is very clean and safe. This hotel is a few blocks from the Vatican. Subway is a few blocks away to ride to the main tourist areas. Room was small. Bathroom was clean. Front desk very helpful. Dorm like rooms but fine for what we needed. Kitchenette and cooking utensils. Nice rooftop and main floor patio. Would stay again.

A great hotel just behind the Vatican and near to the metro and a supermarket. As you can see from the photos the rooms are very compact and anyone over a size 20 would not be able to get into the shower. However we really enjoyed staying here. It is definitely worth paying a little more for the penthouse rooms, as they have a private terrace, and […] the kitchen is bigger and better equipped. We got into the habit od eating out for lunch and coming back to cook something simple in the evening whilst sitting out on the terrace. I really like the location of this hotel being just outside of the Vatican and very close to the subway. The rooms were very clean and cozy. I thought the hotel staff was very helpful. The one big draw back and negative I have for this hotel is when I went to check out I got his with a 30 Euro hotel stay tax after I had pre paid everything via hotels.com […] Then I had to pay the service fee to pay with my credit card. Much to my surprise I really liked Rome and the location and comfort of Residence Candia had a lot to do with that. The hotel staff were always helpful, our room nicely cleaned and comfortable. I had misgivings about spending four days in a big city but we could walk to the Vatican, which was an important item for our trip to Italy. This hotel, within view of the walls of the Vatican, was in a great location for getting about and sightseeing in Rome. Our room had just been renovated and was perfect and large, though I get the impression other rooms in this hotel are not quite as nice, and we may have lucked out. As a "Residence" facility, we were unaware this meant they only refresh […] towels every four days - that would have been nice to know in advance, and we came back to our room midday on Saturday to find it had been tidied (but the towels not replaced) and OUR DOOR WAS WIDE OPEN. No one came back to the room to finish up... Nothing. They left our room wide open. The front desk was apologetic and genuinely surprised about this (so I don't believe it was something that happened with any frequency), but with all of our clothes, a laptop, and other expensive items, this could have been a disaster. Thankfully nothing was missing. Parking is present, but chaotic (much like anywhere in Rome). All told, it was a wonderful stay. Lesa meira

Residence Candia provides a perfect location for a sightseeing holiday in Rome - it is well equipped and immaculately clean with everything in the studio you would need. Very close to St Peters and Vatican and with nearby metro and bus services ideal for touring the city and all other sites. Walking is a great way to get around and you must be prepared […] to take time to explore the bus services which are excellent once you have sussed out and also, as we were there for 5 days, the 16 euro ticket which covers all is unbelievable value for money. The hotel staff could not be more helpful and multi lingual - the city map, freely available on the reception desk, provides the perfect guide for the city and sites. Residence Candia is close to various supermarkets and restaurants which fit into every price range but especially valuable for us was Feliziano Pasticceria on Via Candia just a few blocks down. Their range is superb and they do carry outs - we were in Rome for International Tennis as well as sightseeing and the food from there provided us with great picnics for taking to the tennis - excellent meat dishes plus lots of good vegetables. The cakes and pastries are to die for and we cannot recommend it too highly - all prices extremely reasonable and brilliant service. We would not hesitate to return whenever visiting Rome and will recommend most highly to all friends and family. Lesa meira

The location was great. 2 blocks from Vatican museum. 2 blocks from metro to get to rest of Rome. Grocery store 2.5 blocks away. We used the kitchen alot to save some money. We had 2 dinners and 3 breakfasts. This place is tiny though. Everything was IKEA made and used well. Our room would have slepped 3 but 3 people coudn't hang out in there or eat […] together. Our kitchen table was a drawer that slid out. Use the wired internet; the wireless was weak. I tried several points in hotel for signal. Only good one was on top floor. The wired internetplug in was underneath bed. The staff was helpfull. Good luck and enjoy!! Lesa meira

This was a wonderful place to stay in a fantastic location. Very handy for the Vatican and the metro but far enough away from the tourist area that you were able to find places to eat that were reasonably priced and full of locals. We were in the four person penthouse and it was perfect for our needs. The room was more like a small apartment then a […] hotel. It wasn't huge but we had more space to move and relax then you would in a usual hotel room. Two of our party were over 60 and needed somewhere to catch their breath after a day tramping round the sights and they loved it. As well as the two double beds there was a kitchen/dining area with a day bed and a decent sized balcony. The shower was always warm and there was good water pressure. The rooms were cleaned daily. The kitchen was basic but you were provided with all the utensils you needed and staff would provided anything you felt missing. Having a kitchen meant we had somewhere to have a leisurley breakfast before setting off for the day and somewhere to make a tea or coffee on our return. Personally I loved the area. There were bakeries and delis, a wonderful ice cream parlour, one of the best sea food restaurtants we'd ever been to, a local market and supermarket and the Pizzerium a couple of streets away. You felt safe at all times. This apartment wasn't luxuary but it did feel like home for the week that we were there and taking into account the price that we paid I'd rate it superb. Lesa meira

My husband and I spent part of our honeymoon in Rome. We saved money by getting a studio style hotel room and making our own breakfast and lunch everyday. Residence Candia is clean and neat. It's just a 5 minute walk to the Vatican Museums, 15 minute walk to St. Peter's Square and 2 minute walk to the Cipro Station. It worked wonderfully for us!

Great price for location. It is a older hotel but we enjoyed it so much. Super clean, staff was wonderful. Close to Vatican and Hop On Hop Off bus route. Lots of places right there for shopping and eating. Got a real kick out of the elevator and narrow stairways. Grocery store not to far around the corner about a block and half away. 3 couples stayed […] here and we enjoyed the experience totally. We would stay here again.
