Generally positive experience. Water in pool could have been a touch warmer. Indoor pool area needed some maintenance. No pool towels in area was a bit inconvenient.

We were not provided the room we booked. This hotel doesn't have an elevator (which should have been advertised, as this is a major accessibility problem), so don't go there if you have heavy luggage or have an injury. The balcony was dirty and even had a used diaper - quite unacceptable. Next day (before check-out time) we couldn't enjoy the coffee […] on the balcony, as the cleaning lady on the balcony beside us sent clouds of dust and dirt on us. Had a fabulous stay, one night, for a road race. Beds extremely comfy, great veiw from my bedroom and balcony facing the lake. Very very quiet in the night, just how i like it. We were pleasantly surprised by our accommodation! The bed was so comfortable! We had a lovely view of the lake and hill. We are planning to go back with the kids to ski next time.

When I walked into the clean updated room I instantly loved the beautiful view of the lake. I took off my winter boots and instantly noticed the WARM FLOOR in the bathroom. That was pretty much all I needed!

The photos look great but I've seen motels with better amenities. Disappointing and hard to find at night. Roads are steep so in winter, better to have a 4wheel drive car.

The room decor is in need of a little repair but the facilities were great and the ease of walking to the ski hill was fabulous!

On arrival found the pool was closed which was a great disappointment as I'd chosen the hotel with this facility specifically but the staff and manager were very sympathetic and did what they could to make up for our disappointment. We stayed for a couple of days the second week of January and the hotel was VERY quiet (There was only one other couple […] we saw over two days) but the staff were very attentive in the bar and restaurant and they made my birthday special. We'd booked Dog Sledding in Haliburton which was nearly two hours away but a lovely drive. Would certainly recommend Winterdance as a great winter experience. Lesa meira

Nice getaway place. Room was big but cozy feeling. Restaurant food was good and prices were decent. Pool was ok (scheduled for maintenance right after we were leaving) water was a little on on the cooler side and we were surprised that there was no hot tub - especially after we spent the day on the ski hill. Sauna was nice. Game room with pool table, […] air hockey and video games was a nice addition. Staff was friendly. Hotel was in good condition but needs some TLC. We had a great stay. The only negative thing to say would be that the shower didn't work well, nor did the hair dryer. Staff were excellent and the beds very comfortable.

My husband and I came near the end of November, before the skiing season began, so it was very quiet when we arrived. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the rooms were kept well with very comfortable beds, a coffee maker and fridge which was also lovely.

This is our 4th time staying in Hidden Valley. My family love the place. Skiing is just across the street. Pool is not in best shape, however the are starting renovation in second week of January 2013. Shower in pool area should be better maintained

Very impressed. Repeat customer, several times a year: much improved over two to four years ago. Brighter lobby, friendlier reception desk, many of the rooms gutted and redone in pleasing tones with new beds, drapes, furniture, bathrooms. Bar and restaurant entrance relocation for the better. And with rooms going at $99 a night in this shag season before […] skiing, easily a better choice than Deerhurst next door, land of so-so 80s condos. Awful food at the restaurant. Pool was slimy, sand all over the floors. Sauna didn't work. Staff didnt once ask how we were enjoying anything or how the stay was. Very disappointed!

Staff were very nice and extremely helpful! Awesome trails to walk on very close to hotel, not far from town at all. Google maps is horrible for the directions there so just ask someone who works there. Even though we went on a weekend when a hockey team had rented most rooms due to a tournament it was great and when problems arose due to those certain […] people who were too drunk to control their kids or broke rules with pets, the staff handled things perfectly and apologized for something that wasn't even their fault. I would recommend staying in this place for sure to anyone who wants a beautiful relaxing weekend away and it is right on the lake and beside the ski hill which is an added bonus!! Lesa meira

The stay was very plesant except the bedding was too heavy they need to provide a light blanket using the comforter was too heavy. The outdoor pool was not very clean or inviting. Two items on the menue which speacials were not available such as the prickle and a dessert. Otherwise it was great

Overall, we very much enjoyed staying here. Enjoyed the indoor salt water pool and sauna which were very clean. Thought that the outdoor pool could have been kept cleaner and the grounds with geese droppings should have been kept cleaner. There is a problem with the geese/ducks gathering in one of the swimming areas and messing-up one of the rafts. […] Rooms were comfortable and clean. This was my first time at Hidden Valley Resort - an August weekend -- and I look forward to returning in the future. I stayed with family, but could imagine being there on a 'getaway' weekend as a couple or with friends as well. The waterfront was lovely and accessible, we enjoyed the boats right from the beach, the tennis courts were in great condition, […] as were the pools, and the view from the balcony dining area where we had brunch was perfect. We were so pleasantly surprised by this property. We got an excellent mid week rate. The indoor and outdoor pools had beautiful views of the lake and ski slopes. We enjoyed the free use of the canoes, beach, tennis court, etc. The breakfast was a little weak but the view from the deck while we ate it was outstanding!

We enjoyed our stay very much.The amenities were excellent, just wish we could have stayed longer to use them all.The very best, was our rooms overlooking the lake . We could not fault the staff or the dinning.My Canadian family loved it and so did my daughter (London) and I (Scotland). We visited Algonquin Park when we were there.

I enjoyed the hotel but was a bit disappointed with the maitenance of the room. The door jamb of the bathroom was missing and the door could not be secured. I pointed this out to housekeeping, who were apparently aware of the problem, but it was not repaired prior to our departure. I quite enjoyed the beach area and the access to unmotorized watercraft. […] All in all we did enjoy our stay and I think, with a little more effort on the part of the hotel staff it could easily rate as a four star destination. This hotel is located near Algonquin park and is a good starting point to explore nature. It is also close to downtown of Huntsville (5 to 10 minutes' drive) where one can top up stocks like drinks and food or have dining. The decor of rooms are a bit old. The reception desk is usually manned by a single staff most of the time. I feel sorry for this […] receptionist as he/she often overworks with plenty of things to handle. He/she has an extra job of handling procedures for towel request and return service for patrons going to the swimming pool. So there is often a queue for normal guests checking in and a gueue for the towels handled by one single guy. Logistically this is wasteful of manpower and inconvenience to customers. I suggest that they have a shelf for clean towels and a large bin for collection of used towels at the swimming pool cancelling the meaningly 'borrow and return' service for towels. Lesa meira

My husband and I have been getting away for a night or 2 whevever we can to Huntsville and always stay at Hidden Valley. It is the most "cottagey" of all the big resorts in the area for just a night or 2. It has changed hands many times and it's conditions have varied from really bad, bad and acceptable. But I must say this time, under new management […] we could see the new improvements. Although the building itself still has the rustic warm feeling we love, it seems fresher and cleaner with new decking, fix-ups, touch-ups, friendly service and lovely new duvets and pillows in the rooms. They even have new quality toiletries which was a nice touch. Hidden Valley is no Deerhurst but thats exactly why we stay there. One negative thing, bring your own beach towels, the ones they have are a real embarassment. Tiny tiny and you can see thru them. I would rate our stay as "good" overall. Enjoy! Lesa meira

Good value and great experience overall. One thing I wasn't crazy about was the long hike up and down the hill to get to the beach. Service was very slow in the restaurant. Use of the boats was included in the price which was great!

The hotel itself was fine - our room was clean and quiet and the beds were comfortable. The staff were nice although there was a lot of talk about "work" at the front desk when I was sitting nearby which should have been private. We swam in the lake and took the canoe out which was really nice. There are two pools as well. We had the buffet breakfast […] on the Sunday morning which was quite good but on Monday morning you ordered off the menu which should have made the food fresher. The homefries looked and tasted a lot like they were warmed up from the day before - burnt and hard. The hollandaise on my husband's eggs benedict didn't taste right. This is a good place for a basic stay and there are restaurants closeby in Huntsville - it would have been nice to want to have a lunch or dinner here though. Lesa meira

Pool not great, exercise room awful...very little equipment and no sanitizers or towels. Felt dirty. Hotel ok. Dining room adequate. Good breakfast at reasonable price. I was surprised that there was not a real wood burning fireplace given that it is a ski lodge

I don't like having my credit card charged prior to my stay. The bed in my room was ok but not very comfortable. I loved having a balcony with a window that was safe to keep open during the night.

Worst service ever. It was like we did not exist. When they did acknowledge us, they appeared to resent us. Saturday night and they were out of everything in the restaurant. No servers anywhere to be seen. Drinks were never refilled. Buffet on Sunday morning was not kept filled. Will never stay there again.
