"Marginal"
For an older, refurbished property, this was OK, better than many I have stayed in. The good: Free wi-fi, satellite TV, and fridge in the room were nice touches. Bed was comfy too. The bad: Service was surly, pillows were lumpy, and lots of street noise. No food service of any kind, not even in the morning. Room was so tiny I couldn't even find a […] place to put my suitcase. "The Thunderbird Lodge - Nice rennovation"
As stated in many reviews it is difficult to find someone at the front desk. The room was clean and nicely rennovated. The only disappointment was that the Hot Tub and pool were closed and the front desk stated that it was because of the weather. This is Southern California, it was in the mid-high 60's great weather to Hot Tub. It was really nice. The people at the front desk were very helpful and polite. Nobody gave me any trouble. I had a fabulous night. Would defiantly recommend this hotel.

"Nice room"
This was a well appointed room, well maintained at a reasonable price.

All things being equal, this is a solid four. But when you consider the relatively affordable price, I'd give it a 4.5. No frills place, but it's 1. very clean. 2. free wifi 3. affordable This is a winning combination for a business traveler. It's an older hotel (apparently) but it was remodeled recently. This place has minimal amenities, basically […] a place to sleep. The rooms are simple, but very nicely decorated, with comfortable beds and very clean. A little noisy from the nearby road and also thinner walls, but I've gotten used to taking earplugs whenever I travel, so this doesn't bother me that much. I can deal with a little noise as long as the rooms look and smell clean, which mine did. Front desk staff was very friendly. It's a pretty dull commercial area, but driving distance to historical downtown and the university, and there's basic things like McDonalds and Dennys within a few blocks. This isn't any sort of an exciting vacation hotel, but if you need a clean, convenient place to rest, this is the spot. If I'm back in the area on business, I'd definitely stay here. "Not enjoyable"
From the door way the hotel looked really great. Then the lights came on and everything was visible. Room was sub standard in cleanliness seemed as if it was the break room for the staff. Ashes from cigs, dirty tub and not so clean sheets.

I went here for a valentines day vacation with my boyfriend. I LOVED the room everything was great and up to par. i really wanted to rent the room with the heart jacuzzi but i will definitely be back here to check that room out soon.

The rooms & Exterior has a 100% overhaul recently, which gives it a "new hotel" feel. However, the water pipes probably should have been replaced also as they do make a little ruckus in the middle of the night. Not a biggie, but I do have a major complaint is about the one employee at lobby. I checked in around 9 pm and the woman at the front desk was […] totally rude, unprofessional and unhelpful. "Nice try...."
Do not be fooled by the photographs and description of this hotel. Things such as the amenities like refridgerator and microwave in your room do not eve come close to making up for the motel 6 vibe they have going on, although they charge twice as much. Premium bedding didn't make much of a difference as the bed itself was uncomfortable as possible […] and we were wakened several times by patrons of the hotel around 1am running around the complex screaming at the top of their lungs drunk. It became obvious at that point in time that the people who frequent the hotel are around the age of 21 looking for a safe haven to practice whatever debauchery they are up to that evening. Surrounding areas are not recommended to be traveled by foot as we went to a local Food 4 Less for groceries and were appalled at the unsafe neighborhood and parking lot. My husband stepped into an open upside-down ice cream container upon getting out of the car in the lot. We should have known when we arrived to check in and the person working the counter was wearing addidas sweats and didn't say 2 words to us about the hotel information what-so-ever-including that the pool was half drained and dirty yet was not locked up or sealed off as to prevent injury. Why this hotel is even on here being promoted is beyond me. Needless to say we won't be returning to the "historic" Thunderbird Hotel. Lesa meira
"Not what was advertised"
Chose this hotel because I wanted something cheap and clean. Didn't expect magic. But I was highly disappointed because what was advertised was not true. There was no breakfast and there was no indoor pool and the outdoor pool was drained! Traveling with 2 kids breakfast is pretty important and the pool is too! Even in December! It was 85 and the kids […] wanted to swim. The good thing was that the management was very understanding and canceled our remaining reservation. We even forgot something in the room and they were gracious about helping us retrieve it! Lesa meira

"Great Updated classic hotel"
From the Neon sign and grand entrance one is pulled into this wonderful property at a reasonable price. Rooms decor are very modern with lots of conveniences included. and great comfortable bed. Only complaint would be that make sure to ask for additional towels as they are very tight with the towels in the room only providing 2 bath towels, one hand […] towel and one sink towel. Otherwise great stay and would love to return, ownership seems to take pride in cleanliness which is a wonderful bonus. Great hotel at a great price with convenient location to downtown. Lesa meira

Lovely, historic neon sign; however, strange odor from bathroom. (Upon entry, my room smelled of feces; adjoining room occupied by my travel mates smelled of urine.) Smell did not dissipate despite multiple applications of spray hand sanitizer one of us happened to have available.) "Do Not Stay Here."
I had booked a suite, but this establishment gave me a regular room and INSISTED it was a suite even after i thought something was fishy and this room did not look like a suite at all? Mainly due to the obvious room size difference. Next day found out that they did have a an actual suite. Hotel is not bad, my tv was old and the sound didn't work very well and there were a group of noisy construction workers staying there, but nothing too bad. It is in a pretty bad neighborhood, but it's only about a half mile from downtown with good restaurants etc.

"Free shuttle to Disneyland extremely convinent"
We mainly booked this hotel to use the Disney shuttle service. It was convinent. Runs every hour on the hour, so plan accordingly. The rooms kinda smelled like smoke, but we were hardly there so it didnt matter too much. The breakfast was decent. Overall it was a good stay for the price.

"Thunderbird Lodge on University Ave. near UCR"
It was a mostly pleasant stay. The only negative I had is that the maids did not give us enough towels or washcloths. The room was spacious, furnished well, and decorated nicely. The bathroom was pretty nice too.
Would stay at this hotel again.

Rooms were very spacious and updated. I was very impressed with the management and they provided us comfort during our stay. The hotel was right off the freeway for easy access going north or south. Recommend this place highly.

I travel a great deal and finding a good, inexpensive hotel is part of my travel expectations. This is NOT a hotel for a working sales person. It has NO amenities, including no computer to print a boarding pass. I went to the Front Desk to ask questions about local places to eat and no one was there. I waited, I knocked on doors, finally I called the […] hotel on my cell phone. The front desk person was "fixing a problem". The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. I stayed there because most of the other reviews were positive. Clean and beds and baths were newer and in good shape.

"You get what you pay for..."
The room was comfortable but small. The bed sheets were clean and the bathroom was nice. The service was horrible though. If you called the front desk it took them a really long time to answer, and if you went down to the front desk there was no one ever there. (I found out by the end of our stay that the woman who maintained the hotel hid in a back […] room the entire time.) The pool, which we were looking forward to using in the Riverside heat, was disgusting! It looked as though it had not been cleaned in months! The iron had gum all over it. We told them we wanted a late check out, which the latest they will give you is noon, and they kept calling us between 11am-12 harassing us about leaving! The hotel was very clean and the room was bigger than I expected. The tub needs some gripping materials on the bottom to prevent slipping and falling, but my over all experience was great. They did an amazing remodel and I would definitely stay here again.

Hotel room was clean and bed was comfortable. I would like to see the following changes though: raise the height of the ironing board & change the location of the refrigerator so it is easily accessible.

"Very close to UCR"
Rooms pretty and clean. Only small complaints regarding very limited electric outlets (one didn't function), alarm clock broken, overhead lighting makes it hard for ladies to apply make up. Still very convenient to UCR and loved the sign right at the entrance to the hotel.
