I stayed one night with my niece and two four year olds. At first they put us in a room with wrong size beds but promptly moved us to another room. I liked the old style feel of the rooms and the room was bright with plenty of space. Parking was horrible with only five spots for the whole hotel. I suspected that our bedding wasn't changed since our […] pillow cases were dirty. My niece left her hair straightner in the room and after calling to confirm it was there we went back to pick it up. Although it's conveniently close to Stanford it is not worth staying here. Parking is not abundant. There were black streaks on the pillows and cigarette burns on the comforters. There were screws holding the door mechanism together, we did not feel safe. So we left and stayed elsewhere.

Lots of hair on the bed. The AC was noisy. You can hear everything going on on the streets. No elevator. No staff working in the morning. No breakfast! Price is good for the location. Took me 5 mins to walk to Stanford shopping center, 20 mins to Stanford hospital. Stay here only if you're on a tight budget, have to stay near Stanford, and dont mind […] hair on the bed. For the price, this accommodation is fantastic. We will definitely stay again. The place is clean and tidy, with a good kitchen available for those staying on a longer trip and who don't want to eat out every night. It's close enough to public transport, and has enough parking on and near site for those who want to drive.

It's a mix of the hotel in "My Cousin Vinny" and Bruce Willis' hotel in "Pulp Fiction". They cleaned the hotel every day but just not as thoroughly as what I'm used to and they changed the towels with clean ones every day. Overall, it was just okay. It's REALLY cheap but amazing location.

The manager was friendly and helpful. The room was advertised as having a kitchen..no kitchen. Unsafe as the front door had daylight and a big gap. paint peeling... very noisy.. the guy next door was snooring and it felt like he was in my room! I stay in Menlo Park/Atherton often but will not stay here again!

the hotel was so old there was no parking and Stanford called and left a message for us and the office didn't tell us about it. We wouldn't even take a shower it looked so bad. The room was very big but no one knew how to operate the tv correctly. Will never stay there again.

WHEN I WAS UNCERTAIN AS TO THE EXACT LOCATION I CALLED -- AN ANSWER MACHINE REPLIED.THE ROOM WAS 56 DEGREES THE NEXT MORNING. THERE WERE NO INSRUCTIONS ON HOW TO HEAT THE PLACE. A SORT OF EARLY 20TH CENTURY PRODUCT !!

The hotel room was clean and had updated imenitites, but that was about it for the plus side of things. The outside courtyard was not kept up to the standard as seen in photos from the site and was in need of a lot of general mantainance. Upon check in, I was greeted cheerfully and when I was stating I had a reservation and gave my name, I was given […] a plain wihte envelope with my name and room number on it with the key enclosed. I was not asked for ID or any form of confirmation to affirm I was who I said I was. Security is definatley lax, I was glad I remembered to pack my sidearm with me. The hotel claims to have a 14 unit complex which is true, but the parking is very inadequate with only 5 parking spaces on premesis and 3 of those being taken up by ownership. I was offered a parking pass to park on the adjacent street which gave no securtiy to my personal property. I don't expect to return to this establishment any time soon. In closing, I would not recommend this to any friends or family, especially any single females traveling. Lesa meira

I do not recommend staying here. It was not clean at checkin and we bought cleaning supplies ourself to clean as there was still urine in the toilet and coffee in the coffee pot. I would never stay here again.

The location and stye of this hotel is quite suitable for families. Because of the lack of consistant heating throughout the room, it is not ideal in winter, fall and early spring. Our criticisms stem from these issues we found in our room: No sheets on the master bed, no soap in the bathroom (not even bar soap) and dishes from the previous guest were […] left in the sink. No one manned the office when we arrived. Had to call a number to get keys to the room. No one manned the offic3 when we left either. What kind of operation is this? Most of the equipments in the kitchen did not work.

I loved the location and the front desk clerk was very friendly and helpful. I loved the size of the room perfect for families and those visiting for long periods would enjoy the studio apartment type layout. I had requested a quiet room which was off the main street (El Camino) however the constant slamming of door next to mine and the loud noise from […] the upstairs room required me to wear ear plugs. The shower was a little funky and smelled mildewing and it dripped non stop. Fortunately the door closed and blocked it out. The negatives would be bed was well worn and bit lumpy, sheets had what appeared to be metal dryer streaks on them and most importantly, the front door was flimsy, had a simple bedroom door lock and the chain was broken. Froze my butt off overnight in room 16. It was also very loud, facing the street. Very poor sleep as a result. I'd stayed here before and had a room on the side street, and apparently at a warmer time of year. I thought it was a great deal then, but have to change my mind about it now.

This is a terrible place I've ever stayed in my life. The overall quality only deserves 1/10 of the price. - The door key is extremely easy for picking, thus I was afraid of safety all night and couldn't sleep well. - NO lobby and services are extremely bad. The day was expecting raining, and my luggage included computer, can you imagine a hotel you stay will put your luggage OUTSIDE? - Windows are broken, but with a paper on the broken window. - heater didn't work - wifi didnt work - EXTREMELY noisy ALL night because of passing car right before your window. I was very dissappointed with my stay. The room had stained chairs. The kichenette was not stock with dishes, glasses or any of the things needed to use it. The main reason for picking this location was the location to Stanford and kichenette. Pay for you get!!!

The traffic noise from the street was very loud. (as was the train). The hotel was smaller than we thought - only about 5 parking spaces. Had to find parking on the street. The condition of this hotel was appropriate for the price that was paid. The owners running the place and living there were nice enough but you can hear their activities (and children crying) through the paper thin walls. There is little insulation in the place and the unit heater does little to help. The excessive mold in the bathroom is a huge issue. […] It seems more like a run down apartment than a motel and I would not recommend staying here unless the price is too good to pass up. Great place to stay, has a B&B feel and is very comfortable. One note, if you're getting in late at night, there may be no one at the check in so your keys will be left in an envelope on the desk of a check in office. Not a worry, but just something to know as a heads up.

no positives, here are all the negatives: 1) insufficient parking - they don't tell you on the description that you will be parking on the street every night and need to fill out a tag to hang on your rearview mirror 2) the room smelled awful, patchouli i think. candle cost me $30 from nearest shop in the mall. 3) no drain stopper in bathroom sink. […] unacceptable for contact lens wearers. the owner gave me a moldy kitchen sink stopper. dreadful. 4) claustrophobic shower. i'm 5'2", 105 lbs and i couldn't even turn without hitting the wall 5) don't know why they even bothered with a shower door, the entire bathroom floor was soaking wet, 1" of water outside the door when i was done. 6) crummy blinds that were falling down and smashed, no privacy 7) door lock was so jammed, i was afraid i'd actually be locked IN the hotel room 8) super loud upstairs, side of room, no privacy at all expedia, do yourselves a favor and remove this motel from your options Lesa meira

I read a lot of negative reviews about this inn, but it was the only place in the area that had a room available in the area I was looking for- and the price was right. The location was great, but parking was very limited and inconvenient. The room itself had a lot of charm. There was a fully functioning kitchen including a gas stove, fridge and freezer, […] and microwave. I believe these places may even be available for long term rental. There are only two issues I wish to comment on negatively. One is that the only ventilation is a small window in the tiny bathroom that does not have a screen on it. The other is that the place needs a serious deep cleaning. The bedding and towels were clean, but the room itself had a lot of dirty corners, baseboards, and windowsills. There were also spiderwebs in the corners, and a chair that had filthy upholstery. Overall, I was pleased. A small place, well located if you have a car (right between Menlo Park and Palo Alto on the main road), but a bit of a lonely walk along a big road without one. Still, pretty close to Menlo Park's downtown and the Caltrain station, which was great. The place itself is quite old but homey, like living in an old apartment building. The main problem was the noise - since it's an old place and the room was just a few feet from the road, the rumble of the big trucks going by on the highway at hight speeds really echoed through the place. The good: -Location is great, whether you're trying to check out Menlo Park or Palo Alto. -Room is almost absurdly spacious - it's more like an apartment than a hotel room. -There's a full kitchen, with great sized fridge, oven, stove, microwave. -There was an additional bed in the room, which we definitely didn't expect, a pretty great surprise. -Not […] that this is that big a deal, but it's pretty cool that there is a lemon tree and an orange tree inside the hotel interior. I ate 2 oranges right off the tree. Not something a native New Yorker gets to do every day. -Huge windows and a great air conditioner unit made the temperature perfect, although that's not that hard to do in this area I understand. ------------ The bad: -We stayed there for 4 or 5 nights. After the second night, no one came in to clean or refill our toilet paper, refresh towels or anything along those lines. I don't really care about the cleaning or towels, but toilet paper's kind of important. -Although I felt safe (as it's a safe area), our hotel room looked right onto the street, so people could look in if we opened the blinds, and they could probably easily come in if we open the windows. But again, we did feel safe. -The hotel staff are ghosts. No one's ever around - In the multi-day stay we had there, I think we saw one staff person one time. This is fine if you don't need anything, but when say, the internet goes out (which it did multiple times), it's nice to have some help. Lesa meira

I wish I could say "it's not that bad" but, it really was not nice staying here. The place is just so old. My room actually had a lot of character - beautiful wood flloors - but the windows barely worked and had no screens, it was incredibly hot in my room and the portable air conditioner just didn't fit the bill, the toilet seat was broken, lots of […] dust bunnies on the floor, and I could hear every single car that passed on the nearby road - very difficult to hear the TV, much less get any sleep. Price and location were very good, and the only reasons that I would recommend the hotel. Hotel is old and not very well kept up. Parking situation was bad, very few spaces and they were tight.

To look at their website, you would think this a decent hotel. It doesn't look luxurious or anything, but it at least looks clean. Don't be fooled. What an incredible dump. It has an attractive price, so if that's your *only* criteria you should consider staying home.

The name of the hotel is Stanford Inn, though the keys still read "Stanford Arms" - a throw back to another era. This hotel is exactly that. It looks and feels like it was built in the early 50's. The suite I had was spacious with a real kitchen, dinnette, a living area with wood floors and an oriental rug, and besides the bed, a daybed in its own alcove. […] But EVERYTHING was tired and hadnt been updated in decades. The kitchen sports a water heater. The bathroom floor tile glaze had long worn off. The shower featured mold in the grouting, especially towards the top and the junction with the wall, not to mention the wall itself above the tile. The towels were rough and felt crusty, and the entire place smelled old. Outside my room the carpet on the stairs leading up to my level was old, worn, and stained. Clearly this place could use a make over -big time! It could be charming if they spent a bit on updates to attract the retro-seeking crowd. But for what I got, I am not sure they shouldnt have paid ME to stay. Love the neighborhood - close to the mall and a bike path for jogging, but next time I am checking out the Best Western Riviera next door. Lesa meira
