Première Classe Bayeux – Bayeux

I'm backpacking through Europe and used bayeux as a home base for the d-day beaches, bayeux tapestry, and mont. st Michel. The hotel isn't directly in the center of town but that walk wasn't bad, about 10-15 minutes to the city and same amount to the train station. I thought it was just right for needing a place to rest my head.

I had to check in in the parking lot at a kiosk which was bizarre. Also there were cigarette burns in my comforter and stains all over it. You get what you pay for I guess.

This hotel provided one of the most comfortable period of my trip in Europe, having stayed in 6 hotels. Room condition was excellent. My biggest problem was when I tried to check in and the reception was off duty, and the self-check-in machine did not register my booking. Failed to check in despite trying with both booking number and credit card. I […] had to stand in the cold wondering how to solve the problem. Luckily there was a restaurant next door and I could seek help there. My Normandy tour guide came and I deposited all my luggage in the van. But after check-in, everything was nice. The restaurant next door was very useful, prioviding a place I could go for a great dinner - both food quality and pricing (the discount for Premier Classe guests helped!). Staff there were also great. But being the small town Bayeux is, there is nothing else in the neighbourhood to go to, not even a convenience store. But I was happy to rest in the room. The hotel breakfast was too expensive for the food and service on offer. Maybe eating at the neighbouring restaurant could have been better. Lesa meira

Rooms are basic but excelent value for the money. Comfortable bed, clean sheets and towels. Staff very helpfull. We would definately use this hotel again.

The hotel was really nice and was close to the train station, which was exactly what I was looking for. The only problem was that the rooms did not have mini refrigerates. I had to keep my food in a big refrigerator down stairs behind the front desk. The only problem with this was that I did not have constant access to my food, but other than that, […] I am just thankful that there was even a refrigerator for me to use. Great value for money, friendly staff, easy walk into town, and plenty of parking if you have a car. Rooms are simple but have everything you need. Free wifi that works, and discount on meals at the hotel restaurant next door.

Well I usually stay in hostels around Europe, so I'm used to sharing a room with other people. You can believe that was so excited to have my own place this time!!!! Everything is very compact, and the people where very nice. This was a great place to stay if your not expecting a lot... safe travels!

Had trouble checking in with their automated service. Had to wait for "reception hours" (could not get someone to come early). Room was small but serviceable and clean. Storage for belongings was minimal. Bed was comfortable. Bayeaux is a 15 minute walk from hotel. We spent most of our time in town or on tours and room was for showers & sleeping only, […] which is what we wanted. We would stay there again if we were to go back to this area. Lesa meira

This hotel is basic, but is in a convenient location and is great value for money. There is plenty of parking and it is an easy walk from the hotel into Bayeux.

Budget hotel. Very small rooms with comfortable beds with interesting deco (you get the feeling you are in a boat). I was going to recommend this hotel if the cleanliness of the room was satisfied but unfortunately it was very dirty, dusty with smelly sheets and hairs in the shower!

We booked three nights at Premiere Classe Bayeux, but that was two nights too long for me. The reviews here were accurate about the room sizes - and funny smells, particularly as the head of my bed was separated from the toilet only by a thin wall. The room was cleaned well, but the toilet seat was broken when we arrived and never fixed, and there wasn't […] any soap in the bathroom. We had our own soap and used that, as we had arrived before the evening reception started their shift so we couldn't ask anyone, but each day our soap was removed by the cleaning staff - but not replaced with anything else! The main thing was that it felt small and cramped: probably better for smaller groups than for our family of four in the middle of a long holiday when we were getting a bit tired of going out and just fancied a bit of a break, especially when it was pouring with rain outside. We found we were tripping over each other and there wasn't anywhere to go to unwind - no pool, no restaurant (the restaurant at the Campanile next door offered a 15% discount to Premiere Classe guests, but was fully booked two of the three nights we were there) and no lounge or sitting area for anyone who just wants to get out of their room for half an hour or so. On the plus side, it is a quick walk into Bayeux along good footpaths, and there's a lot to see and do in the town, so use the hotel for a short stay, when you plan to be out often, or at the start of your trip when you still have lots of energy! The hotel although budget is just perfect. The rooms were extremely clean and functional with the traveller in mind. It's such great value we would definitely return. It's also an easy ten-minute walk into Bayeux, with easy access to all the major sites including the D-Day museum and cemetary.

We stayed the night previous to going on Normandy tour. For that it is fine. About a 10-15 min walk from train station. Also about a 15 min walk to tour meeting point. Front desk staff was typically French - not readily helpful or friendly, but not too mean. The hotel was very basic and functional. Tiny, cruise-ship-like bathroom. The room was small and furnishings were somewhat dated, but free wifi and free parking. It's a short 10min walk from downtown Bayeux (tapestry, cathedral, bakery, cafes, etc.) and 5min from […] the D-Day museum, so relatively convenient. Terrible continental breakfast - walk into town to find much better. Our GPS kept reading the street at the Ke-min de lah Gam-bat, so that was probably the best part of my stay. Clean hotel close to train station, and only 5 Minute walk from city centre. Not having reception open from 11.00am - 5.00pm is very inconvenient, I would not stay here if you are arriving just after lunchtime. Overall for the price a good hotel, you get what you pay for.

Wouldn't stay there again. The bathroom was like a submarine. Very expensive compared to what else there was on offer. Could have paid only €8 more and received a much better quality hotel or B&B and breakfast.

Hotel was fine for a quick overnight, but the hallways and rooms had a funny odor which was not pleasant. The staff was unpredictable, some nice, some rather rude.

My family of 4 stayed here while visiting Bayeux and the normany beaches. We were looking for a crash pad with 4 beds and it was just what the doctor ordered. The only complaint was that we needed to turn off the heat (the thermostat didn't work) but otherwise it was a great, simple, clean place to spend the night for a very reasonable price.

Premiere Classe is not supposed to be a fancy hotel. It's very economical & basic, but this one is in a great location--easy walking distance to the center of Bayeux (bakery on the way!) AND the excellent WWII museum. This hotel has been recently renovated, so everything was in good shape. It's very similar to an ETAP (molded one-piece bathroom for […] toilet & shower; Bunk bed over two twin beds--push together no problem for a double bed so sleeps 3 confortably). An excellent choice of stay in Bayeux: Do remember to watch out for the reception opening and closing times though. The room as very clean and extremely comfortable. Only a few minutes walk to the centre of town too so very handy for exploring the beautiful town of Bayeux.

A very relaxing hotel. Very quiet. Not too far from the train station and not too far from the center of town (if you don't mind a bit of a walk) I would have liked a coffee maker in the room, but the breakfast was nice. Well worth the money.

Although the description says the hotel is only 2 blocks or so from the train station, that is technically true, but it is much longer to walk there, as you cannot cross the tracks and go in a straight line. The hotel was similar to a Motel 8 in the US, but was clean and the breakfast was a good deal for the cost. I really didn't know what to expect having read reviews, but they were clearly by people who expect a lot more and a sumptuous hotel, it is not. It is very, very good value for money. More convenience than an experience but the beds were comfy which is the main thing. We were three lads on a tour using it as a base and it rose to the occasion brilliantly. […] So much so, I dont usually write reviews. I expect things to be good! This hotel is less than a 10 minute walk away from Bayeux town centre. The room was clean enough but dull and the bathroom was laughably small. Also the room smelt quite badly everyday after the cleaners had been. The hotel is next to a main road, but the double glazing saw it wasn't a problem. We only had internet access for the first of the three […] nights we stayed. After that there was no connection, the hotel apologised but didn't do anything to rectify the situation. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was less expensive than most hotels. Three of us were comfortably fit into one room and were happy with our overall experience for the cost. However, the running of this hotel leaves much to be desired. While everything is very clean throughout the hotels and the rooms, the cleaning staff is very disorganized. […] We got to our room at 5 in the afternoon and were given the key to find that we physically could not get into our room because housekeeping was still in the process of cleaning it. The next morning, we woke up at 9 am to the housecleaning crew demanding to get into our room to clean, even though checkout was at 10:30 and we had paid for another night. When we left for the say we put a do not disturb sign on our door because we didn't want room service in the room while we were out, but when we came back, the sign was gone and the room had been cleaned. The reception area was very small and the evening clerk was very busy and not very cooperative - there should have been two at checkin. The rooms were very small and looked like they were pre-fab! The bathroom was very small and cramped! The tv in one of our rooms didn't work. The air conditioning in one of our rooms did not work - always cold! There […] were no telephones! I have to admit first of all that the previous hotel I'd stayed at in the Netherlands the night before really spoiled my view of any future hotel! If you're driving to this hotel, don't trust Google maps. We followed the directions on Google Maps and ended up driving around a tiny little French village called Somerville for about 20 minutes trying […] to find the hotel, before I finally gave in and switched my iPhone data roaming on to access the hotel's website and try to find a map. Head for the D-Day museum, the hotel is right next to the major roundabout just before that museum. The beds were very comfortable and I slept well. The hotel itself is only a short walk from the old city. We arrived just before 9pm and the reception staff were about to head home but they were very nice to us and I'm grateful they waited right up until the 9pm cut off point - some other places would have been deserted at 10 to. The toilet / bathroom was tiny - I'm a big guy so I felt really cramped, but even my friend who is less than half my size felt that they were pretty small. However, they were clean and working so I can't complain too much! Given the very reasonable price we paid and the fact that all we needed was a place to sleep and keep our baggage while we explored the town, this hotel was ideal. The rooms are probably a bit too small to spend any prolonged period of time in, but then who would want to? Bayeux is an amazing place and there's so much to see!! Lesa meira

Great deal, inexpensive but you get what you pay for. Room is small but sufficient if you don't have too much luggage. The "capsule" bathroom is larger than other retro-fits we have experienced in other places. Service is limited and if you are willing to work around their schedule then you will have no problems. We went to Bayeux to take the DDay tour and just wanted a clean room and a nice shower. I would recommend this to the traveler that wants to lounge around in a hotel but for us it was perfect for two nights and it's only a 10 minute walk from the train station and a 10 minute walk to the city center where the tours start. Great deal.

Loved the location, walking distance to Bayeux, but quiet and very affordable. The bed was the most comfortable we slept on in 4 different hotels. The door next to Room 9 is extremely loud when closing. One night a large group was going up and down the stairs for about 30 minutes, with the door slamming every 10 seconds. The same thing happened early the next morning and it was really hard to sleep.

The staff was very helpful, though their hours were a little inconvenient. You had to arrive before 9pm or your reservation was lost, though the only train in from Paris got us in around 9:15. But we called and someone came right away to let us in and reinstate our reservation. The reception desk is also only open from 6:30am to 11, and then from 5 […] to 9.
