Ég og konan erum hlauparar og ferðumst varla án þess að hlaup komi þar við sögu. Nú var komið að því að hlaupa í Bristol, en hvernig átti að komast þangað og hvar átti að búa. Við vorum svo heppin að uppgötva vefsíðuna Hotels.com og þar fundum við hótel nálæt þeim stað sem upphaf og endir hlaupsins virtist vera og á verðlagi sem okkur fannst eðlilegt. Við pöntuðum síðan hótelið í gegnum Hotels.com og stóðst allt í sambandi við það, í raun þekkum við ekki til Hotels.com en spurðumst lítillega fyrir um það hjá hótelum hérna heima og virtust þeir ekki þekkja það nema af góðu. Við flugum til Heathrow, tókum lest frá Heathrow til Paddington stöðvarinnar í London, og þaðan tókum við lest til Bristol. Ferðin frá flugvellinum til Bristols tók um fjórar klukkustundir, en meðan við vorum í Bristol uppgötvuðum við að það er bæði fljótara, þægilegra og ódýrara að taka rútubíl (bus) beint á milli Bristol og Heathrow flugvallarins. En nú vorum við komin til járnbrautarstöðvarinnar í Bristol, þaðan var um 15 mínútna gangur á hótelið. Hótelið kom okkur skemmtilega á óvart, stafsfólkið þægilegt, og staðsetningin svo að segja fullkomin hvað okkur hlauparana varðaði því startið í hlaupinu og endamarkið voru svo að segja umhverfis hótelið í 100 metra fjarlægð. Hlaupara leggja mikið uppúr staðsetningu frá starti og endamarki svo það gat ekki verið betra. Hlauparar leggja líka mikið uppúr að sturtuaðstaða sé góð á herbergjunum, en það var mjög góð sturtuaðstaða á Ibis Bristol Centre. Morgunmatur var ekki innifalin, þótti okkur það kostur, en það var hægt að fá góðan morgunmat á hótelinu ef maður vildi á sanngjörnu verði að því okkur fannst, líka var hægt að fá hádegis og kvöldmat þarna, svo var líka hægt að sitja þarna niðri á kvöldin með bjór eða kaffi ef maður vildi. Í nágreninu og miðbænum sem er í um 10 til 30 mínútna göngufjarlægð er líka mikið úrval af kaffistöðum og veitingastöðum. Á herberginu var aðstaða til að hita sér vatn og fá sér té eða kaffi og líkaði okkur það. Það má því

"Beautiful Location"
Set in a beautiful waterside location, a short drive away from the city centre, however the double bed was just two mattresses sewn together. On check out I was not asked about my stay. Breakfast was reasonable.

The hotel is difficult to find. And if you are staying in the anex at the back the rooms are tiny.
Beautiful location, 10mins drive from city centre, or 40min walk along the canal. Breakfast was varied and enjoyable. Staff were friendly, and view from the breakfast room was fantastic. There was also a cafe/beer garden facing the river. The room was comfortable, with large flat screen TV, and large shower in the bathroom. "Only if you are skinny"
Room extremely small!! My wife and I stayed her. I had to step up on the bed for her to walk around to bathroom. It is European so this i assume is acceptable. Not for Americans who are used to a bit more room.

Loved this hotel and Bath. We took our grandson to visit Bath University . I wanted to stay here again in September but found it is fully booked. It was a short bus ride away from Bath town centre and the University.I had read soom bad reveiws but they were all wrong.

The breakfast was great and the room was adequate, comfy beds (but their version of a double bed is in fact two singles put together) but the shower was a bit tempremental and lack of decent toiletries was annoying. The view from the back of the hotel was very nice too. Make sure you come in from Bath or else you will have to pay the toll bridge.

We decided to go to Bath for the weekend and when we reached our hotel, getting to town was inconvient. The staff at the front desk was rude. When we went to our room our door was wide oPen (apparently the house keeping hadn't finished) which explains why we had no toilet paper. I called down for toilet paper and waited nearly 10 minutes. Ultimately […] I had to go to reception to get toilet paper. The parking lot was hard to get into and out of. The room was nice enough however our carpet was wet and the heat wasn't working on a cold night. Would not reccomend fOr anyone to stay at. Lesa meira

Good location for bath and nice setting- pub across toll bridge excellent - clean and newly refurbished room however extremely small like staying in a caravan thin walls woken up by people just talking, tv was poor only bbc channels - breakfast was excellent however

The hotel was good for the money paid and served its purpose. An unfortunate event took place at the end of our stay whereby a workman was adamant on entering to fix a plumbing issue whilst getting dressed to leave. Otherwise staff were pleasant and restaurant food was good.

If you stay in the annex you will be very cold! Staff are lovely but somebody needs to tell them to keep the heating on throughout the night!

"The Old Mill Hotel Bath"
A very comfortable stay indeed !
We were in one of the cheaper bedrooms, which were as small as you can get, and the TV was not brilliant, though the shower room was very good. Breakfast had an exellently varied menu, and the dining room setting was as good as you can get, overlooking the river. We would go again, but definitely only with an upgraded room.

Pretty location, but make sure you turn left before the bridge as I think it could be quite easy to miss it and have to pay the toll! You will end up staying out the back with a view of the car park if you book a room in what they call 'the lodge'. However, we found it fine for one night, especially as it was one of the cheaper hotels and fairly close […] to town (taxi was £10). Some bits of room weren't very clean EG: hair on the bathroom floor. Staff were helpful but not particularly friendly. Room comfortable although quite small but perfectly adequate for two people, bathroom very nice - powerful shower which is something that is usually lacking in hotel rooms! Lesa meira

Probably the smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in. No tea bags or biscuits, despite what the blurb said. Good value for money, at the discount price, but not sure I would have felt the same at the full price.
"Hanging on by a thread"
This hotel gives the impression that it is hanging on by a thread. The rooms may have been refurbished but the hotel demonstrates little understanding of what it feels like to be a guest. It really needs to update it's understanding of what 'service' is. The tell-tale signs are everywhere; ' please book a table if you wish to eat in the restaurant' […] only to find the restaurant is virtually empty. And presenting old, bent and stained menus does not set you up to feel you are going to get a good meal. Positioning a room on the ground floor at the bottom of the stairs so every guest conversation can be heard and people rattle up and down the stairs at all hours, and next to a toll bridge with diesel vans passing or stopping directly outside the window shows little understanding of the needs of guests. Poorly written and mis-spelt responses to any criticism on Trip Advisor suggests that the management have little empathy or understanding for the people they are serving and are perhaps in denial. This hotel will thrive on one-off visits from overseas guests - it is on a river with a lovely old English feel to it. But it has little or no value as a destination for anyone who wants decent service and a good nights sleep. Lesa meira

The hotel was very clean,room was small but just refurbished, nice location by the river,half hour walk to Bath. Would stay again.
Would say that the hotel was very nice. Ate in the restaurant in the evening and the food was fine. The breakfast in the morning was not good. Problems with the lift which sent the food down to the restaurant meant we waited 50 mins, which probably would have been ok if the breakfast was good but unfortunately it was not. Bacon was so overcooked it […] was crispy sausage burnt beans very dry and if there was an award for the worse scrambled egg ever the hotel would get it. Hopefully it was just a bad day :( Lesa meira

Comfortable, clean hotel. Very nice breakfast, with a good selection to choose from. Beautiful setting for the hotel. My only grumble is a lack of parking; until a space came free, I was advised to park at a different car park up the road and to move my car before 8am the next day. Otherwise a nice hotel.

The hotel was situated on the banks of the river Avon. It was very tranquil and relaxing. Just a word of warning, the Toll bridge is right next to the hotel so you need to turn down the driveway and not go onto the bridge as you will have to drive over and get back (then charged twice)

We arrived too early for check in and the helpful receptionist gave us info and a map for our visit to Bath and informed us we could leave the car in the car park. The main entrance to the hotel needed a spruce up as it didn't have the kerb appeal suited to its beautiful location. On check in ( gladly we were in the main building and not the 'motel' […] type building around the back) we found our room to be small and compact (twin) with a good sized en suite. The room however, was not configured to become a double room. There was one bedside table holding ample tea making equipment and on the other side the telephone was on the floor. There was a large flat screen TV on the wall but you had to watch it side on as it did not have a swing bracket. The beds were comfortable but only had a sheet and one blanket on them. A duvet would have been better. Breakfast was held in a room that had 180 degrees view of fields, the old Tollbridge and the mill wheel, which is what appealed to us when we made our booking but the outdated decor in the room didn't do it justice. Lots of varnished pine, checked soft furnishings and a red carpet. Breakfast consisted of a buffet of cereals, tinned fruit and yoghurts and juices. You ordered from a menu of cooked breakfasts. The waitress was prompt in bringing tea, coffee and toast to your table. We had a nice stay in Bath but expected more value for the rates we paid and the main rooms and reception needed updating. The Old Mill Hotel is in a great location. It is just beside an old toll bridge on the river. This is obviously a well known short cut for the people of Bath and it is entertaining to watch the toll booth activity from the restaurant windows. The old mill wheel is still in place and turning. Just enough room to walk around the bed and no where to store your suit case. The smallness of the rooms were a talking point for a number of the guests during our stay. Hotel, resturant and bar area could do with a good clean cobwebs and dust everyware, breakfast staff rushed up there feet and wiated 37 mins for breakfast not the best either, need to look at hot lamps as the beans had a skin on, not nice!! Though a bit old fashioned in style, we enjoyed a comfortable night here. Beautiful canal side walk into town (40 min), or boat trip on the Avon make this a much better located place than one might think. This was a lovely looking hotel and the bedroom was excellent although small everything was very clean bright and new plenty of milk for tea and coffee safe and decent hair dryer provided reception area and entrance could do with a lick of paint and some new carpet didn't eat in hotel but lots of people were staff were friendly and helpful could have […] done without piped music in reception first thing Sunday morning as our bedroom was just above! Also young femail staff smoking on the steps at front of hotel and loads of buts in the plant pots didn't give a good impression! Only one night room was in a block away from the main building but was clean and had been re-furbished recently.Nice welcome and friendly staff breakfast next day was great.Downside this is about twenty minutes drive from bath centre due to the traffic.In the countryside ideal if you area walker two decent pubs very near both did food.

compared to what we paid and what service or accomodation you get offered this is a complete rip off. I am a professional traveler for business, but this is nothing I have ever experienced. This Hotel is very clean tidy and comfortable and the staff were very polite and curtious and helpful. There was parking but if returned late at night parking is slightly difficult. All in all a great hotel.

The Old Mill is a charming and well maintained property which should suit the needs of any traveler. Our room was roomy and spotless, the bathroom was shiny and new, (great shower!) and the overall service in the hotel was first rate. The hotel is a $5.00 taxi ride from the center of town. Staff were accommodating and gracious and the breakfast area […] is beautiful - overlooking an old mill which is still in operation - with a splendid view of the English countryside. "Mixed feelings"
The hotel presentation was very much appealing. The gardens, situation and overall look of the Old Mill is beautiful and unique. The working mill is perfect example and the entire grounds are picturesque. Our only complaint was the room itself. Apart from the noisy wedding which we endured until 12am, the lack of a working television and the two single […] beds posing as a double - I didn't feel the room's appeal was that of the expense I shelled out when paying up front for this hotel. so when handing in the keys upon departure, I found it a little 'rich' that the attendant requested payment for the room even though it had already been taken care of. No impressed what so ever. The only redeeming factor was the breakfast inclusion. The staff were prompt, friendly and the food was excellent. The dining area was pleasant and that helped take away from the poor feeling we'd been left with from the night before. Overall a 3/5 is being slightly generous, but given we stayed only one night, I'll give The Old Mill the benefit of the doubt. Lesa meira
