"For Tokyo a good hotel not so far from Shinjuku st"Metið af Shree D frá "Akureyri, ICELAND" þann 26. sep. 2011
If it is raining a lot then it is really nice to be able to walk to the hotel through the underground passage from the Shinjuku station. The metropolitan offices observatory is also very near.

Today visited for its Sensoji Temple, Five Storied Pagoda, and the Nakamise traditional shopping arcade, this festive neighborhood once was the city’s hot spot for drinking and dancing. Though it never experienced the development that Ginza and others have, it holds its own with an artistic community and some of the city’s top attractions.

"Nice Ryokan in Tokyo"
Friendly staff, nice location, free wireless, English friendly. Right next to Sensoji Temple as well.
"convenient, clean, comfortable"
so close to a number of subway stops and therefore easily accessible to a number of other hot spots in tokyo. though a touristy area, the neighborhood quiets down fairly early in the evening and the morning and night walk through nakamise street is great. the ryokan was very clean and quiet, including the shared bathrooms and showers. internet worked […] really well in the rooms. would definitely stay here again. "Ryokan Kamogawa Asakusa - really warm and friendly"
the rooms are pretty small, just space for the futon and a dining table. However if you count the cupboards where you can place your luggage, it becomes really cosy and fun. The hotel has a little cafe at the first floor which is convenient for meals and they also have a hot tub in which you can use.The location is really good as well, 5 mins to Sensoji […] temple and Asakusa station, which runs on the Ginza line. The neighbourhood is rustic and has plenty of good and affordable food while an evening stroll is really pleasant. Still on normal weekdays, shops close by 6-6.30pm so if you're looking for night life, it's not really the place to be. I would definitely return for another stay since the the location and the hotel made such a positive impression on me. Lesa meira

"Great Experience"
First time in Japan and I loved it. The Ryokan was the kind of experience I was after and hence I great place to stay. Asakusa is easily accessible from the airport and close enough to the city(s). One of the best things is the neighbourhood itself. Lot's of little streets with thousands of little restaurants and bars where it is possible to have cheap […] lunch and diner. Lesa meira
"Traditional Inn in Lively Tokyo Setting"
A simple, but comfortable, traditional Japanese inn in a lively Tokyo neighborhood. The small room without bath we were assigned was a bit too tight for two, so we transferred to a suite with private bath for a little more per night and were very satisfied.
"It's an experience!"
I was traveling to Japan for work and my officemate, recommended that I try staying at a Ryokan to get the full experience. So I booked two days out of 10 at the "Ryokan Kamogawa Asakusa". Having said that, if staying at a Ryokan was my only objective, then I think there are other Ryokans else where in Japan that would be better suited. But, this definitely […] met all my needs of being close to the places I wanted to see and go to while being a real japanese style inn. I had the small room (which I didn't realize how small until I reached there). It had minimal space to take your shoes off and enough space for maybe 2 twin beds (barely) and a wall mounted tv (that's it). I am not a big guy so I managed but if u r tall and "built", you might want to get the bigger rooms even if traveling by your self to have space to stretch etc. They have a futon and a japanese table taking up much of the space. No closets (well there is one but it is where they store the futon). The bath/shower situation is what you'd expect from a ryokan. Common bath, and a common shower. I used the shower mostly except one day when I used the bath to try it. The bath is open only in the evenings (5-11 i think). The shower room is 24hrs and had two shower heads but you can lock the door to get privacy. Mostly I was out pretty early in the morning so I didn't have any problem getting the chance to use it. I was lucky enough to get wifi in my room since it was above the lobby. I liked my stay at the ryokan but personally next time, I'd just book a normal western hotel (since I like the extra amenities even if it meant paying more). The staff was friendly and the area was close to the shrine and market. The real challenge was finding it. The key is that the map is tricky because the scale of the streets are much smaller than what one would expect. I thought I walked 1 block but had walked 3-4 blocks. Which made it tricky to find the place. I would recommend any one staying here to look at the map in Lesa meira
"Ryokan Kamogawa Asakusa"
Very good location in a traditional area of Tokyo. Close to public transport, souvenir markets and temples. Staff spoke good English. Room spacious and traditional.
"First Ryokan experience"
Want big? want fancy? then this is not for you. I had a small room (as in very) with a traditional mat on the floor to sleep on. Tea was there to welcome me. I had a shared bathroom, though you could have private. The most wonderful part was the staff. I have no Japanese, but we were able to easily understand one another. It was clean and tidy, and […] most of all, fun. Only problem is that it is a challenge to locate. Lesa meira
"Ryokan Kamogawa Asakusa - Asakusa's heart"
Fantastic location just by the temple garden. The staff is as Japanese are most: friendly and polite. Cannot come to think of anything negative to say about our stay at this cosy Ryokan.
"Great Location"
This hotel was a lot of fun. It was our first time in Japan, and we really enjoyed the experience. The room was very comfortable, especially the bedding which was on the tatami mats. Each room has a short table with complimentary green tea, and yukatas. We had a private bath which was very small, but worked. The hotel is a family business which I prefer […] and the service was great. There is only LAN in the room, but they will give you a cable at the front desk if you need one. Also, there is wifi in the lobby. There is a cafe attached to the hotel, but I found it quite expensive compared to some of the other ones around. The location was excellent, right in the heart of Asakusa. You could walk to many restaurants, cafes, shops, and Sensouji Temple. Both the Toei and Metro stations are a few minutes walk. Lesa meira
nice little place. not your typical American hotel. great for those on a budget who want a real taste of Japan. (Stayed in room with the dorm-style bathrooms in the hallway)
"A Stranger in a strange land, never better"
I don't travel for business or pleasure but purely out of a preternatural need to be as far away as possible from the rigmarole of modern life. If youre the kind of traveler who needs a spa, limo service, gym, and pool, all the accoutrements of your own home, at your hotel them by all means book yourself a grand resort in the Americanized neighborhood […] of whichever city. If you want adventure, to thrust yourself into the world and get lost in a foreign land and discover a different part or yourself on every block or every hilltop then book yourself in a place like Ryokan Kamogawa. Located in the historic asakusa neighborhood, home to one of the oldest (reconstructed after the Tokyo firebombings) temples in the country, this hotel gives you all the necessities of a big city adventurer: a roof and a bed. Spartan by any standards of the elite class but to a traveler who is already thankful for the pamperings of American life, ryokan Kamogawa is a breath of fresh air with it's less-is-more tradition and family service. It's tucked away in a neighborhood cris-crossed with narrow streets lined with outdoor eateries and street vendors. The area was completely destroyed by the united states air force during WWII and was rebuilt immediately to preserve its original role as Tokyo's main attraction and entertainment district as well as the home of some of the countries most sacred Shinto festivals. Sure I still feel guilt as an American walking streets burned by my ancestors but another testament to the Japanese is their steadfastness in the face of tragedy, especially evident in their handling of the recent earthquake crisis, that their group mentality in making their nation as one in the mutual struggle towards the great goal makes them close to a model society. Ryokan Kamogawa is a true Japanese experience and I will continue to spend my visits to Tokyo snuggly in the quiet asakusa neighborhood with it's beautiful signs, buildings, and people. "What a nice little place!"
When I checked in at the inn, the gentleman at the desk informed that even though I'd reserved a smaller room, I'd been upgraded to one with an in-room bathroom, to make up for the fact that their elevator was currently under construction. I was really surprised (and also really pleased!) that they would do that! He then proceeded to carry my suitcase […] up to the 3rd floor for me. There's an 11:30 curfew, but if you're going to be out later than that and you know ahead of time, you can get a back door key for a deposit of 1000 yen. My husband and I did just that and it was easy enough. The room itself was comfortable, with the futon already prepared in one room and sitting area in the other. The small bathroom unit was clean and stocked with simple amenities, like shampoo and extra toothbrushes, which was nice. The location can't really be beat. It's barely a 2 minute walk to Sensoji/Nakamise-dori, which is such a lively area that, especially if you're only in town for a while, should not be missed. It's easily accessible by the Asakusa Line, the Ginza Line, and the Tsukuba Express line. My husband and I took the Tsukuba back and forth from Akihabara several times. All in all, it's a nice place, for a decent price, and the service was quite good. Lesa meira
"Great location!"
The Ryokan Kamogawa Asakusa was in a great location. It was just a few block from one of the top attractions in Tokyo yet the street was very quiet. The inn was small and homey and the staff was friendly. They had wired internet in room and wireless that I was able to access in my room on third floor even though they said you could only access wireless […] in lobby. Sleeping on floor was very comfortable. Private bath on the first floor was also fun. Bathroom in room was very small. Great experience. Lesa meira
"Excellent hotel for a seasoned traveler"
For those who have traveled before and don’t mind stepping outside of your comfort zone (mine being Western), then I would absolutely recommend this hotel. The hotel itself is located within walking distance (3-4 minutes) from the Asakusa station tucked away on a quiet side street. Walking through the front door the reception is immediately located […] on the left attended by either an elderly man or woman with very limited English. But that should hopefully not deter someone from staying here because they are VERY accommodating and pleasant. I speak almost no Japanese and I managed just fine. There are two styles of rooms to chose from; Western and traditional Japanese. No matter which you chose both are kept immaculately clean. I opted for the traditional Japanese style and was more than satisfied. The room size for a single is relatively small compared to Western standards but it is perfect for storing your luggage with room to spare and sleeping. Besides, you don’t travel to another country only to spend the whole day in the hotel room. The floor mat that you sleep on is approximately 5-6 inches thick and to my surprise was very comfortable. The blankets are similar to down comforters and the pillows tend to be a little on the stiff side but still comfortable. The bathrooms are shared much like a hostel style with a private shower with enough space for two. During my stay of 3 nights I never ran into anyone in the bathroom so it felt like I had the place to myself. All in all, this is a fantastic hotel off the beaten path with a price that is hard to beat. If you don’t mind the shared bathroom, then definitely consider this hotel before spending more on a hotel with optional commodities. My rational was the more I saved on the hotel which I only slept in, the more I had in my pocket for tons of ramen and green tea flavored ice cream! But, to each is own… Lesa meira
"Ryokan Kamogawa - Great way to experience Tokyo"
For me this was a really positive experience. I was a little sceptical about trying a Ryokan, since i did not exactly what it was. My concern quickly disappeared as the staff at the Ryokan are extremely friendly and de-mystyfied the experience. It is a great way of getting a feel for Japanese living. You sleep on futon on the floor in a room with rice […] mats. It is actually a very comfortable way of living and the only inconveinience is that the bathroom is shared (this was not a problem since the Ryokan is small and I was never waiting). The location of the Ryokan is excellent as it lies in the heart of the lively and charming area Asakusa where there are many interesting shops and restaurants. Although the area is central, the streets are very quiet at nighttime. This area is also easily accessable from the airport Narita. The Ryokan also has free Wifi, complemetary breakfast and you can even use the Japanese pool without any additional charge. If you are curious about japanese culture, this is the way to go as opposed to one of the traditional western style hotels. Lesa meira

Lesa meira
"The real Tokyo... for a beginner"
It was my first hotel and the first time in Tokyo when i just landed in the middle of the Asakusa-Ku, and it was a very nice experience! Colours, action, traditions, all i need for my first impact woth this amazing town. The ryokan is simple but in the hears of the area, and this make it worth the visit. Of course this is not the hotel an european kan […] imagine, but is clean, spacious and gives the feeling of a real jaoanese tradition. The negative part was the misunderstanding because of the lack or wrong info on the Hotels.com website and because at the arrival the nice lady couldn't speak a word in english. But the fact is that we didn't know that there was no toilet in the room (even if this should be given som granted in a ryokan....). The breakfast should be included but we got a receipt (no problem as we got later money back and some nice excuses). I should recommend it for a short stay (we was there 3 nights) expecially because of the location and the traditional feeling. Even the price i believe is OK. Lesa meira
