Old Stone Inn Mountain Lodge & Restaurant – Waynesville

We stayed at Old Stone Inn for one night in the process of moving my son out of college. It was really just a layover, but the pervasive smell of mildew in our room and complete lack of cold water in the morning made for a less than satisfying experience. Do not recommend.

Rooms were very cozy. Bathrooms were a little small and we had a tiny television in our room. I didn't mind this but my 11year old son did. Very friendly and helpful staff. I would definitely stay here again!!

The place was very convenient to downtown and restaurants and the staff was as friendly and accommodating as could be. Everything was comfortable, but even with the fireplace lit and the room warm, with outside temperatures in the low 30s the floor was quite cold and also the bathroom was cold.

I can't say enough great things about this awesome discovery that we made by finding this hotel on Expedia! My husband and I needed to get away for a short weekend to celebrate our anniversary and spend some much-needed time without the kids. The Old Stone Inn is a wonderful mix of a bed & breakfast style hotel and an old lodge. It was a great value […] for the weekend and who knew Waynesville had so much to offer? I had never even heard of the town before this weekend. Cute shops and great restaurants all in the Smokey Mountains. We just loved it! The lodge is definitely rustic, but so incredibly charming. The words quaint and cozy describe it perfectly. The owners really should put new pictures up as I think the current ones don't do the lodge justice. We brought our own coffee maker, plenty of our own ice, and a box fan to drown out any possible noise from other rooms. The fan turned out to be a good idea because the heaters in the rooms are the old-fashioned style that will wake you up when they turn on and off throughout the night. We love vacations with our kids dearly, but it was refreshing to take a weekend for just us in a town that seems to be made for couples. We laughed at the fact that we saw more dogs than kids in the town square shopping area of Waynesville! Lesa meira

We really enjoyed the Rustic atmosphere of the Inn. However our gas logs did not work and if you leave in the evening and come back late it's hard to find a parking space as the dinning room is open to the public. The breakfast was great.

Rooms come with an excellent breakfast. Rustic rooms are clean and comfortable. Main Lodge is beautiful original with exposed beams and fireplaces. The staff is very pleasant and helpful.

Staff was truly superb and seemed to care about all of us. We were in a large family group, so they had to "tend" to us more at once, but they handled it well and were so very pleasant. The lodge was more rustic than expected, but no phone or computer were kind of nice for relaxing with the family. I was needing a place to get away from a hectic life. Old Stone Inn was perfect- within a mile of some good restaurants and still 'remote.' It was rustic, yet comfortable and modern. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Room was very comfortable. A couple of things that would be helpful additions would be a coffee maker in the room, and refrigerator. The shower pressure was great but made an awful high pitched sound.

This is supposed to be a mountain lodge with a rustic feal. The restaurant has a nice mountain lodge atmosphere, just overpriced. As for the location, not removed at all. In fact its in a neighborhood, just plenty of trees to hide it. No views at all, and though its quiet at night the day brings all the noises of a suburban neighborhood. The accomodations […] are quite dated, the couch needed to be replaced as did the carpeting and the old CRT TV. And don't look under the cusions of the couch.......they don't clean there. The staff is VERY friendly and the towels and terry robes are great, with plenty of hot water available. I stayed in a "cottage", it wasn't a cottage but rather a suite so not as private as I had thought. Becareful of the entry road, its very easy to miss and in need of extensive repairs. The facility is a stones throw away from the Waynesville downtown area, which is a must see and the place to go to get your meals or enjoy a drink. Overall, its overpriced for what you get. We found our room to be very similar to the KOA camping cabins we have stayed in with the addition of our own bathroom. It was very musty smelling and the king sized mattress felt like a sofa bed mattress - not high quality at all. The highlight of the stay was the breakfast served Sunday morning - very good food and good service for the lone server/cook/busperson […] that was working the dining room. Its a nice place out of the way, off the main roads. Rocking chains on the porches. It was nice for a few days not to have the same old hotel room. I did not make it to the restaurant.

It was very nice and fit our expectations perfectly. We were there to get away and do some hiking in the mountains enjoy time away from electronics. If you think of it as a "Hotel" or resort spas type place you will be disappointed but that is not it's purpose. Having said that the rooms are dark and decorated appropriate for a log cabin type room. […] Our room had a couple of chairs for sitting in the room, a separate area with a small shower with a toilet in it. The sink was actually in the room which made it easy for the two of us to get ready. We chose a room with no AC and were very comfortable with open windows and fan in July. The room was nice and clean however the showerhead was junk and the tub/shower drained slower than the water comes in. I have not stayed at any hotel without an icemaker accessible to guests and there are no vending machines either. The staff at the restaraunt were acommodating with ice during their regular hours. Contrary to the negative reviews I read, Old Stone Inn was a nice place to stay. If you want a 4-star experience, look elsewhere. Rustic totally applies to this place. Queen beds were firm and comfortable. Room was clean, except for dirt dragged in on our feet that stayed on the wooden floors until cleaned in the morning. Shower head didn't move much, […] and for shorter people that prevented a problem in that it'll hit you right in the face. We didn't get to sample the restaurant because of time contraints, however, I did go in and it's gorgeous. The dinner menu looked to be 4 star and I've heard the food is excellent. We enjoyed our stay there, and our room was quaint and comfortable. The breakfast in the dinning hall was excellent. The overall condition of the Inn needs to be improved, and they have it for sale now. Hopefully a new owner will do renovations.

Mosquitoes in the room, no phone, no clock, no coffee maker, no internet TV was on top of a high chest and was so small (9 inch screen?), window AC didn't cool very well. Also, the pictures that are on the travel site are much better than the hotel itself. Our "view" backed up to trees, no distance views of mountain landscape. It was very clean.

This Inn was a pleasant surprise---not a cookie cutter motel at all. Service is excellent room is comfortable and the atmosphere is quaint and relaxing. The restaurant is steps away: Don't miss it! Breakfast is included and was fantastic. We brought a guest to Dinner and that was excellent too.

Great place and would stay again. Situated in a residential area which was unexpected, but close to the quaint shops of Waynesville. Breakfast in the lodge was nice and the atmosphere is classy but comfortable. We were able to bring the dog with no questions or problems and enjoyed some walks around the neighborhood. The Old Stone Inn Lodge and Restaurant is a beautiful comfortable old lodge located (you could say "hidden") in the woods within walking distance of the shops and activities of downtown Waynesville, NC. Imagine - pine-paneled rooms, gas fireplaces, very comfortable beds, a covered balcony with rocking chairs and a woodland view, a full breakfast (included […] in the room price) from a menu, and a cozy/romantic dining room with exceptionally excellent food and service. Rooms even have TVs although we never had an occasion to turn ours on. This lodge is only a short drive from the east-side entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The helpful staff gladly provided directions to some little-known off-the-beaten-path parts of the National Park where we visited historical homes of early settlers in the area and saw herds of elk while eating a picnic lunch on the edge of an open field. My wife and I would without hesitation recommend "The Old Stone Inn" to everybody and anybody visiting or traveling through this area. It's a wonderful place to stay. Lesa meira

This is a great place if you are looking for a cozy, rustic bed and breakfast. Our room was plain and simple, but clean and comfortable. If you are looking for fancy, this is not it. The restaurant and main structure was built in the 1940's, and retains its original charm. The food was excellent, as well as the service. We enjoyed our stay.

Great wooded setting within the town of Waynesville NC. The knotty pine paneled cottage/room was very clean and well prepared. Plenty of windows with screens that allowed cool air to flow through the room. It also had a gas log fireplace for chili evenings in the fall. The Inn/restaurant's food was impressive. We enjoyed the full breakfast (included) […] and the evening meal choices were incredible! Would recommend to any traveler wanting visit the Waynesville(downtown area has a wondeful shopping experience) Maggie Valley (Wheels Through Time MC Museum-Don't Miss It!) and of course anywhere along the Blue Ridge Parkway. This lodge is conveniently located between the Cherokee and Asheville sections of the Parkway. Perfect for splitting the almost 4 hour drive along the Parkway. Lesa meira

We stayed at this lodge August 13, 2011 for one night. After reading some of the negative comments, I was reluctant, but reading the latest reviews which were positive, I decided to take a chance. I was extremely pleased! The room was at the end of the building, clean, with three windows and a King bed, with 2 rocking chairs inside and a ceiling fan […] blowing. If you like the rustic look, this is the place for you. We had the windows open all night with perfect temperatures and just using the ceiling fan. The bed was comfortable and enjoyed sitting outside our door in the rocking chairs. So quiet and peaceful. It's tucked back from the road, and although there is a sign off the main road, and when you turn on Dolan its just down the street on your left. Has a high post sign in front of the dirt drive and the Inn is tucked back in to the woods so you have to look up for the sign since not hanging car level. We didn't get a chance to eat dinner, however, many cars came in for the restaurant. Our room rate included breakfast, which was very good and everyone there was very friendly...and definitely can't wait to go back again! If you want a fancy place this isn't it..but if you are wanting a laid back place with southern hospitality...this place is ideal! Lesa meira

Stilvolle Holzhütte, bereits etwas abgewohnt. Viel Brimborium beim Frühstück, das von einer sehr netten Bedienung serviert wurde, aber sicher nicht jeden Geschmack trifft. Buffet mit ähnlicher, aber individueller Auswahlmöglichkeit wäre ansprechender gewesen. Trotzdem, um Längen besseres Frühstück als im Standardmotel, was bei dem Preis auch erwartet […] werden kann. Wirklich nett war die große Veranda, die ausschlaggebend für unsere Buchung war. Eine schlichte Unverschämtheit war die Matraze eines Schlafzimmers, die getrost als durchgelegene Hängematte bezeichnet werden konnte, die Matraze des 2. Bettes war amerikanisch weich, aber ok.
