You can buy roses from wandering pedlars on Patong’s Bangla Road (and in many nightlife areas) most nights. There are also many flower stalls in the island's many markets. If you want to surprise your loved one with a bouquet, almost every florist across Phuket offers delivery services at affordable prices.

Can I buy and launch a floating lantern in Phuket?

Can I buy and launch a floating lantern in Phuket?
    • Pör

There are usually several wandering vendors selling floating lanterns on Phuket's major beaches (especially Patong, Kata and Karon). Expect to pay around 200 baht per lantern, and the vendors will often help you light it. While authorities aren't really keen on floating lanterns – there's a risk of setting fires if they touch down inland – there is no law preventing you from buying and launching them.

Are public displays of affection permitted in Phuket?

Are public displays of affection permitted in Phuket?
    • Pör

Thailand is a fairly conservative country, so it's nice to respect the locals by avoiding public displays of affection (like enthusiastic kissing). Anything risquér than a quick peck on the lips/cheeks, if done in public, is considered public indecency, which can result in a fine. Try to limit yourself to just holding hands in public.

Is a wedding in Phuket legal in my home country?

Is a wedding in Phuket legal in my home country?
    • Pör

If your wedding is properly registered and documented with the local authorities, then it's a fully legal and globally recognised marriage. This is quite a complicated process and many wedding packages in Phuket exclude it, so make sure you verify with your wedding planner.

    • Pör

Not especially so. It's a common scam concerning gemstones sold at a fraction of their usual price in Phuket. If you're offered jewellery for significantly less than you'd expect to pay back home, it's probably fake.

Gold in Thailand has a higher purity (96.5%) than you can find in western countries. You'll see that it has a very intense yellow appearance due to the quality.

Are there any romantic festivals in Phuket?

Are there any romantic festivals in Phuket?
    • Pör

One of Phuket's most romantic festivals is Loy Krathong, which takes place in November. You'll see hundreds of lit paper lanterns and krathongs (lotus-shaped rafts) being released into the sky and water in the evening. The festival is a big night for couples, as they make a wish for long-lasting love. It's a very good sign if their krathongs stay close together in the water.

The Baba Wedding Festival in Phuket Town is also quite romantic. It takes place in mid-June to celebrate the traditions of Phuket's Thai-Chinese community. The event's highlight is a mass wedding ceremony, in which you can participate for a fee.
