Friendly staff, quick check-in and plenty of parking. Good selection of food in the restaurant and a lovely breakfast. Took a 90 minute stroll down to Tintern Abbey via the lane opposite the Sloop and saw lots of other walking routes along the way. Live music on the Saturday we stayed and well supported by friendly locals.

I was the only guest staying that night, the staff was so friendly and welcoming. The room was very clean and the breakfast was great. It’s a great location for hikers.

Friendly and nice place

There was an open mic on which was lovely. The room was basic but nice with tea coffe and soft drinks provided as well as toiletries. All nice and clean. Breakfast was lovely and staff friendly.

This Inn was very well situated. We were close to many popular tourist sites including the Forest of Dean. Very pretty area.

6/10 Good

We're not really sure why The Sloop was listed as a 4 star hotel. It is a modest place situated in a beautiful part of the Wye Valley. Our room was small (we did book a small double) with basic furnishings and an ensuite. The water pressure in the shower was challenging. Supper was traditional pub grub that was tasty and enough for us. The whole place was very quiet (we seemed to be the only people staying) and there were a scattering of locals in the bar. The inn is set up to handle a substantial clientele so perhaps we were just staying late in the season. The full breakfast (which is included in the room price) was excellent with a lovely waitress. Beautifully cooked.

Staff were very friendly and the food available in the pub was lovely. Only issue is transport to and from Chepstow as buses start a bit later and finish early.

Nice venue but choose time to stay carefully.

Lovely location, nice for walks and local drives but needs to be when it's warmer. Meal we had was excellent and the breakfast could not be faulted. Room could have been warmer when we arrived, but we were a little early. Overall very nice, but a January visit should be avoided if possible.

Lovely place, lovely food, lovely staff

We are two brits who moved abroad and were back in the area for the weekend. Our whole stay was ecactly what we miss about the Uk: Good food, lovely service, amazing location and big comfortable rooms. The service was top notch, loved our room and balcony and the whole room was comfortable and big. We loved sitting on tje balcony with our morning coffee. Little touches like coffee and tea in the room, hand gel in the room and toiletries, plus the history of the pub on the menu. Just top notch all around.

No pomp just comfy

It was only one night we had an event too attend in the evening the time we spent here was really comfortable clean and the staff were so friendly The hotel itself was traditional and was typical of the area it suited me down to the ground 10/10

6/10 Good

It was cheap, and a place to hold up whilst we explored further out during a brief biking holiday. Shower was pretty much non existent.....more of a dribble, and the beds were terrible. I think i will have imprints of bed springs on my back for the next few weeks.
Andy, 2-night trip

2/10 Poor

The cleanliness was terrible in our room ,from dust everywhere to cobwebs in every corner ,there was dead flies on the window sills ,must of been an infestation of flies in the bathroom as they were all ovsr the bath
Chris, 2-night trip

8/10 Very good

The staff were lovely and the food simple but brilliant value and delicious - especially the included "Full English" breakfast which was awesome and much appreicated!
James, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

Excellent cooked breakfast served with a smile. Room was fine, ensuite needs some update. Please be aware pub closes 6pm Sundays and at all other times hours can vary dependant on footfall, no resident bar facilities which was disappointing when there are no alternatives in the village, particularly on a Sunday evening and the bar itself was very welcoming when open.
Tim, 3-night trip

8/10 Very good

We chose The Sloop Inn because we were going to Chepstow Racecourse on the Saturday and Sunday so thought we might as well have a night away rather than spend the money on petrol going home and going back again. There is a large car park, which is on the opposite side of the road. We were in room 2, which is dated but had everything that we needed. It faces the road, so there was a little bit of traffic noise, but not a problem and the room and bathroom were clean. We had an oil fired radiator in our room as well as a radiator and we needed the oil fired one on when we first arrived. The bathroom was very cold. The shower over the bath has the smallest head I have ever seen and not the most forceful, but it was ok. Our evening meal was very nice. All home made and the lady who served us (who also showed us our room and served us at breakfast) was so friendly and chatty each time we met her. Breakfast was good. There was a small selection of cereals, as well as orange juice, tea, coffee and toast. We were asked if we wanted to have a full English breakfast, but were able to go "off menu" and choose a variation to suit us, which was good. All in all a very nice stay and we would stay again.
