Hotel O.K

Room was burgled, presumably during house keeping, and hotel has a 'not responsible' policy for this! Reporting the matter was extremely difficult since the Receptionist and the Supervisor at the time spoke little or no English. What we did manage to make clear was met with little interest, so I have to think this is a regular occurrence, and they seem to play dumb when challenged. The English speaking Manager was allegedly unavailable, and we were told to come back mid-afternoon to talk to him which was clearly silly given we had plans each day. In fact the lack of English spoken throughout Rio is shocking, given it is such a big tourist destination. The hotel was no exception, which was a frustration to say the least. We decided to stop the Housekeeper entering our room again by putting a 'do not disturb' sign outside the door for the remaining five days. We literally had to do our own housekeeping, asking for fresh towels, sheets and toilet roll each day. The attempted burglary (they slashed my girlfriends large travel bag with a knife) left us very shaken, especially since the hotel didn't care, which was a total betrayal of trust. Having experienced Rio and the high level of crime there, I have a strong feeling that the hotel has a scam going on.Please be aware that the safes in each room are accessible via a USB connection and the appropriate software, which the hotel has in case people forget their codes. I cannot recommend this hotel. Dodgy to say the least...........

Walkable distance to many different things, embassy row is in the surrounding buildings. Hotel is decent, linens and bed need to be changed.

I think the location was very convenient depending on what you are doing, I liked the service of the hotel but the actual bed was very uncomfortable. Definitely needs new linens and bed. The gentleman in the front desk, there were 2 were very kind and helpful. They spoke English enough to help me with any questions I had.

We arrived in the morning and the staff was more than happy to let us check in early since our room was available. All the staff were friendly and spoke some degree of English at the front desk. The building is a beautiful art deco style with an airy atrium from the second floor to the roof, which goes up about 18 floors. My only gripe is that the elevators were a little slow, but the hotel didn't seem filled to capacity. The rooftop was was nice and had decent views as well. The pool is small, so don't plan on doing laps. The breakfast buffet was basic, but it was from 6-10 and served its purpose well enough. The hotel is in a business district, so it was sleepy on the weekend, though bustling during the week for food options. The overall area felt safe for two men walking around at any time. Lapa is a short walk away as are some other attractions. It's not hard to get a taxi or uber in this location, and a metro stop is around the block. We got a 3 bed room which ended up having 2 singles in a bedroom and a pullout bed in a small living room that you did not have to walk through, so it effectively had 2 separate rooms. One air conditioning unit was new and very effective while the other was a bit dated, but still worked well enough. Shower pressure and hot water were great

I stayed one night with a female friend. We had no problems.
