Discovery Suites Rio

Great stay, lovely staff, tasty breakfasts and interesting area (though it’s a steep walk from the metro). We had a couple of issues with lack of running water and unreliable air on but the staff kept us informed and fixed the problem as quickly as possible.

Although this hotel is away from what would be considered the main hub of Rio at Copacobana (about 4.5 miles) we wouldn’t have stayed anywhere else. The hotel and our room was full of charm and the staff were charming too. They were all super friendly and willing to help. We walked alot in Rio, but transport options are good too. The metro is a 7 min walk away down-hill and is cheap and easy to use, especially when the receptionist has written down which stop and line you need. The staff can also call you an Uber. The colourful Escadaria Selaron are within walking distance, but along hilly cobbled streets, so if you’d prefer take the street car. There is a tram stop just outside the hotel and the iconic yellow street car is worth a ride for the fun of it. The food and cocktails at the hotel are out of this world! Try the ribs and the charred cauliflour dishes, but honestly everything we ate here was delicious (including breakfast!). A few points....the only access to the hotel is up a steep 8 meter-ish path, which was not an issue for us, but something to consider if mobility is limited, and the area in general is hilly. Also the hotel isn’t very cleary sign posted, but their Explorer Bar is, so look out for this.

Very friendly, helpful staff 😄 Room had everything needed... not luxurious ( and didn’t expect it to be) but had a comfy bed , very clean and great value for money. We liked the area although perhaps not for those for those who want to be in the middle of things. The hotel bar/restaurant a real bonus. We really loved staying here👍
