Top neighborhoods in Bath

Bath City Centre

Bath City Centre invites you to stroll through 2,000 years of history where golden Georgian buildings frame ancient Roman ruins. The UNESCO World Heritage site dazzles with its honey-colored architecture, steaming thermal springs, and the magnificent Bath Abbey. Wander the pedestrianized streets where Jane Austen once walked or soak in the healing waters at Thermae Bath Spa. Traditional tea rooms and cozy pubs make perfect spots to recharge after exploring museums and boutique shops. Most attractions sit within easy walking distance, and Bath Spa Station connects you to London and beyond. Stay in charming converted Georgian townhouses for the full historic experience.

Bear Flat

Bear Flat delivers Bath's best views without the tourist hustle. Alexandra Park rewards your uphill trek with stunning panoramas of honey-colored Georgian buildings below. Wander through peaceful Victorian streets, where locals outnumber visitors, or hit the Bath Skyline Walk for countryside vibes right on the city's edge. Kennet & Avon Canal offers a perfect afternoon stroll away from the crowds. The neighborhood keeps things simple with cozy pubs and local cafés serving traditional British fare. Bed & breakfasts and guesthouses in elegant period homes provide authentic stays with garden access. Regular buses connect to Bath's center in minutes, though the hills require decent walking shoes.

Widcombe

Widcombe offers a peaceful escape from Bath's busy center while keeping all the good stuff within reach. The charming Georgian terraces and village vibe make you feel like a local from day one. Stroll along the Kennet and Avon Canal towpath, visit the medieval St. Thomas à Becket Church, or hike up to Alexandra Park for jaw-dropping views of Bath's honey-colored skyline. Traditional pubs serve hearty British fare in buildings with centuries of stories to tell. Most visitors stay in converted Georgian guesthouses with more character than you can shake a stick at. Regular buses zip you into the city center in five minutes, though the pleasant canal-side walk might tempt you instead.

Lansdown

Lansdown's elevated position rewards visitors with sweeping views over Bath's honey-colored UNESCO landscape. Georgian architectural treasures like Lansdown Crescent and Beckford's Tower stand proudly among rolling green hills. The neighborhood offers a peaceful retreat from the city bustle, with proximity to Bath Racecourse and Lansdown Golf Club providing scenic outdoor escapes. Accommodations here lean toward elegant Georgian townhouses converted into boutique B&Bs with period features and garden views. While dining options are limited within the neighborhood itself, the occasional gastropub offers local flavor. Getting around requires planning—steep hills challenge walkers but reward with stunning vistas, while buses connect to Bath's vibrant center.

Oldfield Park

Bath's Oldfield Park neighborhood offers attractions including Kennet & Avon Canal.

We took a day trip out from London to Bath and Stonehenge - it was an easy and fairly affordable way to get out of the city for a day. It was also nice to have tickets to everything included and guided tours of both locations.
Bath Abbey had a choir singing the week we went (mid April). The sun came through and made the entire interior glow. #history

The Old Mill Hotel

8/10 Good
"The room in the lodge was clean and comfortable. It is a little worn in places, but everything worked. The room was a little small, like a caravan bedroom, but fine for us. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, the food was nice. There was just continental breakfast to choose from in the morning, but there was plenty and it was nice food. We ate in the restaurant twice, the food was lovely, enough choices and definately value for money compared to others in the local area. Especially if you choose from the set menu. The local setting was beautiful. We didn't walk into bath but used the local bus, leaving our car in the car park. Ensure you read the terms and conditions re paying the deposit for your stay on arrival and also the £10 per stay car parking fee. For our 3 night stay, this was fine. We found that the sat nav kept trying to take us over the toll bridge even when chose, avoid tolls, so beware to check the direction maps is taking you, if you don't want to pay the charge. You can park on the main road for free if prefer."

Apex City of Bath Hotel

Apex City of Bath Hotel

8/10 Good
"We recently stayed for two nights and overall had a really pleasant experience. On arrival, we were warmly welcomed and offered a complimentary drink each, which was a lovely touch. Our room was ready ahead of the standard check-in time, which made things much easier. The room itself was clean and well-presented, as well as the bathroom and shower area. The beds were also very comfortable, making for a good night’s sleep. We made use of the leisure facilities, including the swimming pool and sauna, both of which were enjoyable. Unfortunately, the steam room was out of order during our stay, and the showers in the changing rooms weren’t working either. This meant having to go back into the pool area to use the showers, which was a bit inconvenient. In the evening, we spent some time in the bar area, which had a nice, relaxed atmosphere. Staff throughout the hotel were friendly and helpful. The location is excellent right in the centre of Bath and just a few minutes’ walk from the Roman Baths, making it ideal for exploring the city. Parking is a bit less convenient. You can pull up outside the hotel to unload, but it’s only a short-stay bay. The recommended option is Charlotte Street Car Park, which is about an 8-minute walk away. It’s not too far, but it is an open car park. We paid £68 for our stay, as it had to be booked across three days, which felt quite expensive on top of an already pricey weekend. We didn’t eat at the hotel as breakfast seemed a bit steep in price"

The Gainsborough Bath Spa

8/10 Good
"Great location and nice hotel but not a 5 star. The concierge and doorman were the best staff members, very helpful and nice but others we interacted with were not great, especially in the bar and restaurant. The spa and thermal waters were nice but very crowded. "

6/10 Okay
"The location of this hotel is GREAT. Everything is walkable. We selected a rate offered on Expedia that included valet parking(convenience) and buffet breakfast (excellent). We booked “premium king” which is NOT a Canadian or American King size bed. It is more like a queen. I learned that you really need to book a TWIN bed room. Then ask them to “zip” the 2 twin beds together. Also be careful when you check out, we had prepaid on Expedia (3 months prior when I booked) but the booking didn’t show this and they wanted to charge me.I had my receipt indicating PAID and this took a number of calls and digging and explaining from their side. BE CAREFUL. The reception staff were friendly sorting this out. I just found it fishy. "

The Royal Hotel

The Royal Hotel

4/10 Poor
"The staff were very nice and had no issues with them, the surrounding area was great, plenty of shops and things to explore. The Hotel needs a fair amount of work to bring it up, the room although clean needs redecorating, scuffed torn wallpaper, chipped furniture, cracked tiles are not a good look. The room is next to the town centre but it was very noisy so we hardly slept, two beds were pushed together and they were very uncomfortable, one dipped to one side when you laid on it. The food was nice but the restaurant needs decorating as well, damp on the ceiling and down the wall, tables and chairs are scuffed, carpet not great, this is no reflection on the waiting staff as they were very nice and professional. The scrambled eggs at breakfast were like rubber, no care taken to cook those, poached eggs were fine though. The hotel has a lot of competition around it so it needs to up it's game to get returning customers."

"The room was very clean & comfortable, including the bed. The staff were very friendly and helpful, in particular Bobo, who went out of his way to give us sliced limes to go in our gin and was such a lovely cheerful guy with a great sense of humour."
