I want to point out the pros first: The staff was incredibly friendly at the front desk, and, the offer to flag taxis for us was really lovely and helpful since taxis are not readily available on that street. Ubers are in the morning though.
Also, the room was clean, the bed was ok, reasonably comfortable, but, there is a lot of room for improvement. The sliding barn door for the bathroom offers little privacy in reality and it is extremely noisy.
The shower took a full 10 or more minutes to warm enough to be bearable. My sister said the same for her room as well. The light was out on one bedside table, not a big deal, but none of the charger outlets on either side of the bed worked at all, nor did two charger outlets on the bureau. When you see that many outlets, you think it's great but in reality, only one worked at all.
The canteen is right in the lobby and had plenty to choose from but the restaurant next door was astronomically priced - no thanks. There were other restaurants nearby, including quick fast food chains. The neighborhood was ok, not awful, but New York ish, meaning, it felt a bit dirty.
We chose it for the price and the reliability of Hilton Garden Inns. I would stay there again but it wouldn't be my first choice. Just ok.
