The room and balcony were lovely, with beautiful decor and stunning ocean views. Being right on the beach was a huge plus, and the breakfast service at Wave was excellent. Also appreciated the well-maintained hot tub, the Cuban food options on the menu, and the complimentary boogie boards, paddle boards, and kayaks for hotel guests.
If the experience had ended there, it would have been a 5-star stay. A few negatives brought it down:
• The overpowering incense in the lobby was disgusting and unnecessary. Yuck!
• The room layout was inconvenient, with an outlet only on one side of the bed.
• The in-room coffee was low-quality and came with Coffee Mate creamer—disappointing for a hotel that markets itself as upscale. A Nespresso machine and a selection of quality teas would have been more fitting.
• Our dinner server at the Wave bar was disengaged and inattentive. A few tables were dirty, including ours, but she wiped it after we asked.
• The Jacuzzi’s bubble function didn’t work, which took away from the experience.
• A sign in the room encouraged electronic tipping. I would have been more inclined to tip without the pressure.
This hotel has the potential to be truly exceptional, but these small yet frustrating missteps took away from the overall experience.
