What you need to know before you go

Occitanie, or Occitania, is the southernmost administrative region in France and offers a wide range of outdoor adventures and historic attractions, some dating to the Roman era. For those looking to explore an area that’s both culturally significant and filled with natural beauty, the Col du Tourmalet offers a pass in the high Pyrenees along the iconic Tour de France route. The Amphitheatre of Nîmes offers one of the best-preserved ancient Roman theatres in Europe. The Cité de Carcassonne is a medieval citadel and UNESCO site, while the Basilique Saint-Sernin de Toulouse is an 11th-century church displaying Romanesque architecture.

At the Musée Fabre, visitors can explore a vast collection of European art and ceramics, while the Cité de l’Espace offers an ultramodern experience with interactive hands-on displays about science, space and the universe. Those looking to explore more modern artwork will enjoy the post-1950s collections at Les Abattoirs. The Muséum de Toulouse offers natural history exhibits and tended gardens.
