Cocido madrileño is a famous meat-and-vegetable stew consisting of 3 courses. It’s usually served at restaurants on Tuesdays, especially in winter. Each course is called vuelco – the 1st consists of the broth with a small amount of rice, the 2nd has chickpeas and vegetables, while the final course has meat. One of the best places to try this traditional dish is La Bola, which can be found in the city centre. Nearby, and a good base for your accommodation, is the surrounding areas closest to Plaza de Oriente.

Like most dishes in Spain it is usually accompanied by fresh bread to spread its delicious sauce. It is also most commonly eaten in wintertime.
