A very pricey disappointment
This was my second stay at this hotel, and I honestly think there will not be a third. Booked what I thought was a superior room ( for 302 pounds pr. night) with a balcony. What I ended up with, was a what the hotel refers to as a veranda which, incidentally, is a ground floor room at the very bottom of a concrete ravine with no view whatsoever, tucked at the very back of a backbuilding, so remote that you have to walk down two flights of stairs with your luggage as there is no lift. Also, there is a disco in the breakfast room every night and the noise from this transmits quite well into the rooms on the first floor. Also, the days in Edinburgh were very cold, as heating in the room struggled to keep the room warm and for the first night we were almost shivering despite having maxed the heating system out. There is underfloor heating in roughly about half of the room but not the bed-section of the room, and, being on the ground, the floor there was ice-cold to the touch, probably due to lack of ground insulation. The breakfast was lacklustre and bland with rather rude staff, and it seemed that the hotel is so focused on being hip & cool, that they forget that they are there to provide a service. We for instance were asked to leave the bar, because they do not wish to have people standing at the bar - everybody in there has to be seated. As impressed as I was with this hotel on my first stay there, this time was a huge disappointment. The location is great though.
