Most people think that summer is the best time to visit southern Sweden, but a winter in Malmö offers no shortage of pulse-raising activities and cozy moments both indoors and outside. A sunny winter's day makes for the best time to visit one of the city's saunas and to take an icy yet rejuvenating plunge into the sea, or to try your hand at tobogganing or skiing.
If the weather turns nasty, you can warm up inside with a mug of hot chocolate or an innovative bite to eat, treat yourself to a shopping spree or explore some of the city's many cultural offerings. Or if you prefer to keep active, you'll find wellness and play all under the one roof.

Different animal species, cultural and natural history collections, archeology and geology are just some of the things you can learn more about at the NTNU Science Museum, which is one of the country's university museums. In addition to interesting and exciting exhibitions, the museum also conducts research and management.
There is plenty to explore here for both young and old, but the medieval town is particularly popular. This is a place of archeological finds from the Middle Ages, where it's particularly interesting to walk through the city streets from that time. The museum's central location makes it an easy place to visit, and if you are staying in the city centre, all you need to do is walk.

Melkeviken is a bathing place by the Fanafjord south of Bergen city centre, with large grassy neighborhoods and a long beach. The bay is protected in the innermost part of the fjord arm, and with forests on all sides, it is warm and pleasant. The area benefits from toilet facilities, picnic tables, benches and diving boards. The beach is shallow so it's easy to get out in the water, but a slightly rocky bottom means that those with sensitive feet should bring bathing shoes.
There are parking options near the beach, but capacity is limited and fills up quickly when the sun is out on public vacations. There is good hiking terrain in the immediate vicinity in Hordnesskogen, Hordamuseet and Stend gardsbutikk, which can be fun places to visit for families who want to fill the whole day with activities.

It takes time to explore all that Sverresborg Trøndelag Folk Museum has to offer, as this fascinating open-air museum comprises several historical buildings spread over a large area. The museum is split into a village part and a city part, and also encompasses the ruins of the castle that King Sverre built many hundreds of years ago.
Some of the highlights here include the Haltdalen Stave Church from the Middle Ages and the intricate main exhibition on everyday life and society through the ages. It takes about ten minutes to drive here from the city centre, and there are three eateries on site if you need a breather. Those traveling in groups can request a tailor-made tour.
