Good location - rooms with and without mold/smell
We have some mixed feelings about our stay at The Claridges.
When we arrived we had some trouble getting the rooms we had expected, at least they were not the same as we had in our confirmation. Two of the four rooms we received had some issues with a nasty smell of mold and a deep moisture smell.
When we asked the receptionist if we could change our rooms or upgrade them against payment, we were told that the hotel was completely and fully booked, no rooms were available. When we asked the receptionist if we could simply cancel the rooms and check in to another hotel, we were told that the hotel would anyway charge us in full.
So we decided to call Hotels.com and ask for their help. The staff from Hotels.com called the hotel to discuss our concerns, while we were on hold. Shortly later the staff from Hotels.com told us that they were not able to do anything for us - unfortunately.
But miracles happen - like 15 minutes after that call the Claridges sales manager came to us and told us that they had managed to find four new rooms for us. Nice rooms, without any moist or smell of mold. We deeply appreciated the sudden change.
On the brighter side the hotel itself is very well located and the staff is courteous and nice, apart from the lady receptionist in the check-in that was decisive not to help us out from the beginning.
Would I stay at the Claridges again? Yes - if someone would guarantee that I would get decent rooms.
