I recently stayed at this hotel, and I must say, it was quite an experience. Let’s start with the good: the river view room was absolutely beautiful. However, I quickly discovered that this beauty comes with a few surprises.
First, I was reminded of one of Florida’s unique charms: flying roaches. It seems that the hotel was kind enough to include them in my stay, free of charge. I brought this to the attention of two staff members. The first barely looked up from their computer, offered a quick “sorry,” and suggested taking the day’s room tax off. When I asked if they could perhaps address the roach situation instead, I was met with laughter. It was almost as if I had told the punchline to a joke! The next day, a different employee also apologized and generously took off another day’s room tax. While I appreciate the gesture, I would have preferred fewer roaches to fewer taxes.
As for the river view, it turns out to be a fantastic choice if you’re looking to join a DJ party from the comfort of your own room. The beats were thumping until late into the night which would have been great if I wasn’t there for work with a 6 a.m. wake-up call. Adding to the ambiance, the smoke from neighboring balconies wafted in to join the fun.
Overall, while I can handle the noise and the shared smoke, I draw the line at flying roaches, especially given the room rate. Next time, I’ll make sure to bring my own DJ, some earplugs, and a can of bug spray.
